Japanese Mobile Gacha Games: Gatcha hand on your wallet and I'm never letting go!

I started Gacha World yesterday, and after a Day, i am starting to see where the "free-to-win" descriptions come from.
It's so hilariously easy to get Gems in this Game, it's not even funny. I had more than 150 pulls today, and still managed to have more Gems than when i stopped yesterday.
But i guess this is the point since the game is very meta about the whole "Gacha" thing.

Does someone else have some experience with that game?

Man Sao really is just 2d shironeko

Also didn't realize they killed the global version. Shit like that is why I hesitate on whaling on games unless they chart well.

Uhh, so the Pokemon Company just released a new Pokemon Game on IOS and Playstore? It's called Pokemon Duel.

http://toucharcade.com/2017/01/24/pokemon-duel-finally-hits-the-us-app-store/

Apparently it's been available in Japan for awhile but I don't really know anything about it.

Whoa WHAT? I didn't think Comaster had a chance coming west. That said, it's downloaded, but who has time to play it when I STILL CANT GET A FOUR STAR IN SAO.

Need to take a break for personal reasons, but hopefully I can get a freaking 4-star by tonight. Or I might just say to hell with it and carry on with the free units

Would you rather have 4* Kirito or 4* Leafa? I was gonna wait for the OT before offering up my rejects, but it sounds like you're having terrible luck. :p

I'll PM you the transfer info.

What are the free 4* units like in SAO? Fairy whatever Kirito and Nightdress Asuna, they dont seem to pop up on any tier lists

Kirito if you still have one! That would be great. I started working through some gameplay without a 4 and rerooling on my spouses device. It's slow goings. Want to try to beat 3-10 for that event coming soon

Pokemon Comaster is a fun game. Highly recommend it if you like chess/shogi but with some dice style RNG. I've been playing the JP version daily since launch, 1st year anniversary should be coming up in April. Here's a pic of all the EX Pokemon I've manage to pull so far:

So much to play!

- SAO: Really happy this is out. It's fun and no stamina is... weird, but good. I still suck at guard/parrying, but I'm getting better. And +10000 karma to Kettch for the 4-star account!
-One piece thousand storm: It's... clunky. Not the best. I love the series but really might ditch it. Did manage a 5-star on my first roll though, so I'll keep that
- Pokemon Duel: Too hit by server crashing to judge
- YuGiOh Duel Links: Really having fun with it. Getting some server strain but it's still very enjoyable.

And Fire Emblem next week.... Get ready....

Hortensia Saga also came out this week which is sadly being overlooked even if it's understandable because many of the other games are from big IP. Hortensia is pretty good and I really dig the art style.

Yeah, I haven't been able to play much of Hortensia Saga. Horrible time to release their Global servers, what with two releases from Bandai Namco (SAO and Thousand Storm) and Fire Emblem Heroes from Nintendo in the next week or so. It's also (apparently) not available on Android, although that might have changed by now?

In any case, I probably won't even bother installing Thousand Storm. I played a bit of it during the Canadian soft-launch and, with as many games as I'm currently playing, it just didn't feel like it's worth it or that it's anything special. I love One Piece, but the combat in Thousand Storm was so damn clunky/slow. I didn't get much enjoyment out of it, and I can't see things changing at a higher level. Hell, if anything, it'll become even more slow, since battles will take even longer to get through.

I'm enjoying SAO, but I really need to practice on the parry mechanic. I've seen high-level play of it, and some people are just insane.

Oh damn, I did forget about that. Honestly, it's in the queue, but not high on my radar right now. Too much else to do!

I'm in the same boat as you chrono. The gameplay in thousand storm is absolutely terrible so far, and I don't see how it can get better. I'm disappointed, as I was really looking forward to this game.

Oh well, just gotta wait a week for Fire Emblem.

SAO + Fire Emblem is looking like a winning combination in terms of gameplay diversity, differing stamina systems, and vastly different IPs.

Burn through FE stamina with strategic gameplay (hopefully) then while you're waiting for stamina to recharge, hack, slash, and parry your time away with SAO with a lack of a stamina system.

I honestly don't feel the lack of a stamina system is necessarily a positive. I like having limits on how much a game can be played. I think it's going to encourage the devs to make things super grindy :\

This is the truth. SAO, Shironeko, and Granblue have all been the least stamina limited gacha games I've played while also being the most grindy by a long shot.

Which is why I stopped playing Granblue, and why I fear for the future of SAO. IMO the best kind of gacha is the one that allows you to play other games and doesn't require a significant investment of time each day. I felt like I had to put a few hours into GB each day and it got to be draining.

I still feel that PAD is the best mobage as far as respecting the player's time goes. A lot of mobage I feel like if I take a break I'll fall permanently behind the endgame rat race.

Yeah Granblue is starting to feel more like a job than fun, feels like the grind gets worse as you get higher as well

I sat there one day, with two screens up, one for Twitter to get a notice for boss spawns and the game up on the other screen. Then I realized that, you know what, this is too much effort for a mobile game!

That and the g-damn casino. And the weapon drop rates.

I still think it's best gacha game in most respects, bested by only OPTC, perhaps.

Do you guys have any suggestion for a good gacha game to start playing? The last one I played was Kingdom Hearts Unchained, which I probably liked more than I should have simply due to the KH link. I'd like something with a good-ish gameplay and that doesn't require you to play/grind every day due to limited events.

While this is true, there are some games (Naruto, I'm looking at you!) that has a stamina system as well as being super-grindy. I've played a few games in the past that didn't have a stamina-based system (Rune Story, comes to mind), and they didn't seem any more grindy than others I've played that used stamina. Bleach Brave Souls has stamina (tickets), but they replenish super quickly (all five within 75 minutes). That game isn't grindy either, unless you go for specific missions that require you to clear a certain event an (insert) number of times.

But yes, time will tell. Even if SAO is super-grindy, I still appreciate that I don't NEED to log in and burn stamina when I don't have the time. I know I don't necessarily need to do it in my other games either, but I feel that pressure of having the stamina being wasted if I don't. At least with SAO, I don't have to worry about that.

I had to semi-quit GBF too, I just log in for the free items now. I just couldn't manage it in addition to everything else I played.

One Piece Treasure Cruise is great for keeping the "powercreep" in-check, but there can be a lot of farming/grinding with it in leveling your skill/socket levels. I'm hesitant to recommend SAO since I literally just started playing it so I don't know what the endgame will look like.

If I had to suggest one for a "newbie", I'd probably go with Bleach Brave Souls. There's very little grinding to be done in leveling your characters, and the events are super-simple in that you can get the 4* character drop (and other items) easily enough within the first few days (oftentimes, the first day). The rest can be spent farming it for more points/lottery rewards/etc. for bonus items, but it's just extra and not really needed. Most of the missions for each event entails beating Very Hard 30 times, which is easily doable. They're extremely generous in handing out in-game currency, and a lot of the characters look/feel different from one another. Stamina is used in the form of tickets, where you have a maximum of five. Each one replenishes at a rate of one per 15 minutes, but you can get more through daily login's as well as rewards from lottery-based events (as well as completing certain missions). It also helps if you're a fan of the franchise, like I am.

Yes, Naruto is one of the worst which is why I stopped playing. LB'ing ruined the game for me. I could see if they used it as a way to make old units better, but it seems to be designed as a way to keep us grinding until we are blue in the face. No thanks. I'll keep logging in daily to get free gems and will check back in in a few months to see what they've done.

First, if there's a gacha game that has IP that you love, then I would try that first. That goes a long way to liking game, I've found (and as you say with KH). But as for your other criteria, like Chrono said, I would look into OPTC. I think it has the best mix of balanced and fun gameplay, unique units and strategies, and a good community. Also important is that there's no real need to spend money to keep up with everyone else because (i) events rotate and will always be back, (ii) there are of great free units that are usable for just about all content and (iii) Bamco is pretty generous with the free gems.

Hortensia in english? I'm gonna have to check that out. Also haven't done a sweep of the JP store in a little bit, maybe there's some new thing to check out.

Also: best gacha-style game was Crows X Worst V. Imagine OPTC but:
- delinquents instead of pirates
- you could rotate the team, so whoever was in the captain slot would have their ability activate
- you could have multiple tandem attacks per turn, ranging from 2-6 character involved, depending on team build
- you could just draw a loop with your finger to make chain attacks happen, so no timing your hits
- feeding dupes granted automatic skill ups
- grinding for evo materials was always fair
- the game was generous with free pulls
and so on.

The day it closed was a dark one in the life of ol bjorky. I think the license is probably not strong enough to support a game, even though I like it more than OP, but this was even less so with there being two different Crows X Worst games on the shop... somehow they kept Dynamite up and closed V, and I wish I knew how to run a private server or something just so I could still play it. Also the music was good.

Events going back (outside some community events like the Frieza crossover or the Marineford thing we are getting soon) are one of the best things of OPTC. Are you burnt and want to stop playing for a while? No problem, you'll always be able to go back. Are you too weak for clearing something? You can wait.

Only problem right now is sockets and skill up rates. The later should be improved at some point in the future if we use Japan as a reference.

Yup, I started getting daily logins only recently. Shame really, I did enjoy it and had some good units, but it got real grindy real fast. GBF, I dropped that a while ago. It had stamina and was grindy to the nth degree. I enjoyed it a lot but did not have the time for it

I firmly believe OPTC is the best of them. Daily gem guarenteed, most don't give that every single day (for 700+ days so far). You can get pretty far with free units, all sugofests have a 10+1 pricetag. Only downside would be lack of any real sales to spend on it, and yes, the RNGness of the sockets/skills.

Don't know why I'm still playing OPThousand Storm. I don't enjoy it much, and just pulled a multipull and got a 5 star, literally the bottom one on that jpn ranking site. I'll probably toss it in a week or two to my daily login ones. Same for Pokemon Duel. I like the concept of the game, but chests, are you KIDDING me? After filling those up with timers and getting the few daily wins, there is literally no reason to keep playing except to climb ranks, which you can't do without better units. Again, I'll play it for a while but I think this one's going away soon

OP Treasure Storm is not a good game imo. I just don't like it, despite coming to love the IP. Not even worth the daily log-in, not with FE coming. I'll have to pick between FE and SAO, and I'll have a hard time picking anything on this planet over a FE game.

Is it legitimately straight up bad... or is it just the lag making everything worse?

I'm a bit conflicted as I want to support Hortensia global, but they don't have a) this on Android in English yet, and b) I'm well invested in the JP one.

Too bad, as next week my attention will be on FE.
