She obviously means "console" as in a traditional console the way we've known them for generations, and the business model thereof.

And in that sense, no, the next Xbox is not a console. Even if it's console-like in features and form factor, it won't have that traditional business model the way PS5 and Switch 2 do, or that PS6 will have.

New Xbox hardware is a bone they are throwing to current Xbox brand aficionados. It is not meant to sell in large numbers. It softens the blow for full 3rd party. The brand name is dead or long dead in the market and whatever this is will not be a recovery from that, so the question is why? I've thought on this and it is a legitimacy issue. They need the box to promote the service but they do not really need anyone to own the box, it just needs to exist on paper. That is also why it will have multiple storefronts, it is a side project relative to gamepass and play anywhere. Almost nobody owns the current box(especially XSX, but I DO own it and let me tell you I never play it) but that doesn't "show" as easily. It's about presenting a united front and about virtue signaling their seriousness and not about the box. The next xbox will be highly niche imho, not at the levels we expect from the big 3 but more like a steam deck level of appeal.
