JezC:If you can at least theoretically afford a gaming PC but DON'T want to game on PC, what are your reasons for sticking with a console?

omg what's with the xbox influencers' hard sell with the PC?

This started at the beginning of the year shortly before the “going third party” leaks started.

These guys have been Microsoft’s unofficial marketing since the late 360 days.

The directive is clear, we’re moving away from Xbox consoles and going multi platform, but PC where Gamepass has the best chance of success, so promote that.

Windows. If and when steam releases steam os 3 for pc will switch to pc for all mutiplatform games. I also don’t want a giant box under my tv thanks. Please don’t recommend me small factor pcs, they are overpriced and underpowered.

PC+ PS5+ SWITCH is my set up. I play Xbox games on PC, the rest I prefer consoles.

The benefits has been chanted all the time, but PC gaming is not without hassles, and sometimes it takes some major effort to make things work.

It makes it twice as annoying for people like me who actually own a Series X.

-Simplicity.

Yeah I think this is understated. Simplicity. It's why people shell out loads of cash for Apple products. Minimalistic by design.

PC can be considered as superior because it does many, many different things. It can do things a console cannot. But the simplicity behind the idea of a gaming console is rather special. Especially in times like these where we are bombarded by entertainment and distractions.

I can’t believe people get paid to ask these questions….. do they really not know the answer?? Really?

Convenience, the answer to this question will always be convenience.

It’s all about convenience. I want to play games sitting down on my couch using my big OLED TV. I have zero interest playing on a monitor. I also have a feeling PCs would be a lot more annoying to deal with than consoles. And add in Day 1 Sony exclusive games. It’s such an easy choice.

P.s. are PC gamers looking forward to GTA 6? It’s arguably the most hyped game of our generation and they can’t even play it.

Last time I had a gaming PC was when Half Life 2 came out. So, 20 years? I think if I had instant access to my Xbox and PlayStation libraries via PC I’d make the switch.

PC is my most used platform due to the ability to tweak settings and work with the community to use mods in extreme certain circumstances in games.

But, I also love playing on console as I have those in my front room and bedrooms.

Sometimes I just want to lay down on my bed or sofa and chill out with a console I can just switch on and play.

Simple as that.

It also helps me when I play a shit load of console games and then goto pc to play something like darktide and my jaw hits the floor with the graphics again.

As long as games run well on console I really enjoy it. Playing something like starfield on console and it's a constant hitching mess is pretty annoying but I can look passed it if I'm just chilling.

MS knows they will hold an advantage if they can help facilitate a transfer of users from Sonys closed console ecosystem to PC. ‘Change the battlefield’ so to speak. Not to mention that such a shift, a marginalization of consoles, will only weaken Sony.

I have a PC with a 4070 and still do the vast majority of my gaming on consoles and handhelds (and Steam Deck). The user experience is much slicker, there is generally less fucking about trying to get games to run, you can have a physical collection on a shelf and the consoles are powerful enough now that there is not a noticeable difference from the high settings in many releases. You get the occasional game where the PC version just blows console out the water (Cyberpunk, Black Myth) and some genres are just better on PC (RTS games, Baldur's Gate 3), but that's what the 4070 is for.
I'm in the same boat - literally. Same GPU, Steam Deck as my main PC gaming platform. I work as a Linux Sysadmin for a large DC and can't be bothered to even use my PC in the evening past maybe some self-studying or watching YouTube while gaming on my PS5 (sometimes Series X). I don't want to hook my PC up to my TV, I don't want to play with settings, I don't mind aiming with a controller, I don't mind 60 FPS, I don't mind not playing on Ultra. Just 3 years ago I really cared about all of the aforementioned (I was definitely a PCMR affiliate, never aggressive about it though) - then my daughter was born and getting to play at all was a treat. A console fits the bill.

Also, graphics have hit a wall IMO - I'm good with how most games look now.

Lastly, the component pricing has completely gone off the rails (in CAD, at least). If my PC breaks today it would cost me the equivalent of 2 PS5s, a basic laptop, a Steam Deck 512 OLED and a Portal to replace it. These are literally the things that I use on a daily basis.

PC went from pretty much my only platform (always had consoles but never used them barring exclusives) to the last one on my list by a country mile.

*Quick shout out to broken ports that waste pretty much all of the time that I have available for a gaming session on tweaking them into a playable state. I no longer have the patience, time or energy - it's all spent on my work which brings in money as opposed to waste my time for a hobby.

Cause I like my surround sound lounge with comfy powerback sofa. I.press a button and game. It's not hard to understand (compared to a bucket of wires and boxes and keyboard in a home office with swivel chair)

I'd think if it's a person's main hobby and they have the money (and want to do a lot more than just gaming) they would tend to go for the better more flexible platform. But in the end I'd just put it in the "who cares" box.
I've never liked this argument. Money should not be a defining factor in personal choice. Just because I can afford a $100k AMG doesn't mean I should buy one instead of a $25K Elantra if all I need is a car to get me places.

I know a lot of people that can very easily afford a expensive gaming PC but don't own one because they don't feel like they need one or they just don't care because their PlayStation or Xbox does everything they need it to do. The most responsible people I know money wise simply buy what they need versus what they can get.

3 clicks of a mouse on Steam vs. two clicks on a pad? When was the last time you tried to game on PC?
While it's not as archaic as a lot of people make it seem you know that it's not as simple as that. I have my PC set to to automatically login, launch steam at startup and launch into BPM which is about as console like as I can get (I built a ITX build because I like moving it back and forth between my desk in the living room and the tv stand) but that doesn't mean it's as easy as a console because despite being able to use my Dualsense trackpad as a mouse for random there are still times I gotta get up to go get my keyboard and mouse.

Also using one of those keyboard/trackpad combos still isn't the same as using a single device that can turn on, turn off, navigate system, and play games 100% of the time.

Have both, play 99% on Console because of the convenience, no need to update drivers etc. and as stupid it sounds, something having less (options) is better, espacially if you just want to play.

On PC I always try to find an optimal setting, fiddel around alot, try to keep an eye on the temps etc. which I not have to do on a console.

Additonal bonus: console consumes less power than my PC

Another Bonus: Consoles can be turned on and off with controllers and everything can be navigated witha pad too.
On PC you need a mouse and keyboard..

Steam has to update constantly. Nvidia drivers need updates constantly. Windows updates constantly. Never restarts properly and causes the whole system to require time intensive tasks at start up after a long work week. Audio reset the 5.1 back to 2.0? Better check it after every restart. Prefer a controller? Now I'm dealing with usb sticks and more drivers. Controllers die without warning because there's no OS basis for % battery remaining. Steam Big Picture is great, so I don't have to navigate Windows using a keyboard, but when inputing anything like a player name in game, usually the controller pop up doesn't work and I have to find the keyboard again. Wireless keyboard is another usb stick with dedicated batteries. New game? New drivers? Installing shaders, please wait. It's a mess. Running the PS4 era on PC at 60 fps by default was absolutely glorious though.

PS5, I just hit the PS button and the whole entertainment system wakes up with all settings intact and ready to go. Buy. Download. Play. Game sucks? No refunds. Optimization sucks and PC version plays at 60 fps? Get bent, loser. Feels like I'm getting scammed, but damn it's easy.

Good luck competing with Steam over there MS.

1. I use my PC for work all day. It's in my home office. That's not where I want to game.
2. I've already invested many thousands of dollars into the ecosystem. Most of my gaming library is on consoles.
3. I still want to support physical media in some cases. PC does not allow for that.
4. My time is valuable. I don't want to have to tinker with drivers and updates. When I sit down on my couch and turn on the PS5, I know the game will just work.

I’m a developer… I work 8+ hours everyday and sometimes even on the weekend, the last thing I want for fun is to turn on a PC.
This goes for everything, I watch YouTube mostly on my TV or my phone, Netflix, prime and Crunchyroll exclusively on my TV. And though I do game on PC every now and then, whenever I have the option I’d go for the console.

I spend so much time away from home (at work) that the most efficient way for me to fit gaming into my life was to migrate to PC (Steam).

For the longest time I stuck with console because of the reliable UX. I could pop in a game, pick up the controller and knew I was 100% going to get a good, interrupted session in.. whereas on PC that is not always the case.

So much headache in setup, configuring, and maintaining for a decent performance. Consoles got worse when they tried to be more PC like. And Steam Deck looks appealing largely because it's a somewhat more straightforward means to PC game.

I have no idea what the fuck you're talking about..

All I meant to say is that when a particular hobby is someone's main interest and/or being economically capable, will tend to make them choose high end gear. Especially when buying a PC because you can use it for a lot of things beyond gaming.

I'll always have a gaming PC. But as long as I can buy/rent discs then I'll probably have a PlayStation.

You should really be quoting HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 from January and earlier.

Marching orders coming down the pipeline

Just wait the leak price of the Pro is going to be $599 (which I tend to believe and have said all along) and people are going to say something like "If you are willing to spend that just buy a budget gaming PC"

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
Honestly?
Back in the 90's PC and console gaming cultures differed in a lot of ways, from the games we played to how we played them and what we valued in games.
A majority of games released in PC was western, while Consoles was Japanese
And the bigger separation was our social life's & groups differed too
The way people look at Mobile Games is the way Console Gamer's looked at PC games.
They were two completely different breeds and although the line has blurred over the years and nearly everything on consoles is available on PC. I'm still stuck in my ways ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I paid good money for this Dynex!
Jez Cordon's a dweeb, but I'll bite:

PC gaming has a lot of problems. It's great for some stuff and there's plenty of games that I'd never even consider bothering with on consoles, but there are plenty of games where it's just the opposite. Japanese games still tend to have pretty shoddy PC ports that have all sorts of random problems and inconsistencies that aren't present in the console releases. Way too many games have stuttering issues on PC, which is a problem that's always bothered me and has somehow only gotten worse over time. And I just don't particularly like Steam.

Apart from that, I can't stand PCMR types and can scarcely think of anything less interesting to me than mods, so... the window dressing around PC gaming is also pretty unappetizing for me.

tl;dr: I play a bit of everything because they all have their uses.
