Jimquisition: Sky Hype

You gotta feel sorry for Jim. I know he makes ridiculous money for doing what he does, but I'm not sure there's enough money in the world to put up with that level of bullshit.

Gimme 10k a month and I'd happily find out for science though.

I'm genuinely starting to wish I didn't like the game now. I'd rather not be associated with these clagnuts.

Also, "dicks for eyes" is now my new favourite insult.
I mean, I'm still an unabashed fanboy of Monster Hunter in spite of the fact that some players I've seen in forums are the most elitist assholes I've ever seen.

i know that feeling, just remember that the game itself doesn't really have anything to do with these people and their behavior so liking it doesn't say anything bad about you in and of itself

I have to admit, I doubted his review and was filled with wonder for the first few hours playing this game. Then after a few hours more it began to sink in how right he actually was. Once I got past the novelty of landing on and leaving planets, I realized the game amounted to nothing more than a shallow loop of pure drudgery with regurgitated assets and abominations that mainly just differ in color. Not to even mention the technical issues.

It's a very cool game for like 4 hours.

I just can't believe that a majority of those posts are not fakes by trolls.

I know, but it's clear he's not a fan, and that's OK! I agree with him in that there is no place for such toxic supporters. I can't comprehend how people can get so invested in a game that they can't even accept someone may have a differing view.

Not a Metroid fan? That series has fans that can't even accept a differing view from the man himself. Lol. I can't stand these types of "fans" so I enjoyed this Jimquisition.

Oh please. Let's stop acting like Jim has tons of cash. He doesn't.

He spent it all on boglins.

Yup he's right.

I've never seen a... decent game.. generate so much divisiveness on both sides.

It's an escalating derp war with everyone just watching on in amazement and horror.

The lack of self-awareness here is staggering. "I'm sorry you feel you have to make others feel less-than-human", and then in the very next sentence they do the same thing.

It's the Tim Buckley "Don't say video games make us violent or we'll kill you" school of writing.

The whole situation reminds me of the Uncharted fans that rabidly lost their nuts over a slightly lower review score than they expected, and that seems to happen with every release.

I wonder if it is the same subset of people that get so emotionally tied to particular games / platform of choice / brand / company and lose it in the most hilariously absurd ways leading to death threats, or if this is very specific sets of people independent to each game that somehow develops.

Along with hype culture, this is one the reasons I hate many "gaming communities" and will just stick with people I know aren't completely loopy!

is there really that much vitriol against the game and its fans? i haven't seen anything on the level of what that very angry individual is describing

there have been some fairly strident haters but that kind of person takes any criticism as a personal attack

Fuck, this isn't gonna end well.

I agree 100% with Jim on this- video games can make people batshit crazy, and I have no idea why. It's supposed to be a fun, relaxing, casual hobby. Why does it bring forth such anger?

It's super interesting to look at, I bet there's some solid psychology papers that can be written on this very topic.

Some of these fanboys...
Jesus H Christ. Chill, please.

Glad I level-set my expectations. I love the game and its gameplay cycle, but accept its shortcomings.
It's essentially an MMO grind with an interesting setting and the capacity for amazing unscripted moments.

My thing is that I love grinding...
I'm over 20 hours in and I just now unlocked the v1 Atlas Pass

You know it's a crummy game when a 16 minute basically shows the entirety of it, lol. Shoot rock, look at animal, talk to alien, fly space ship and repeat 18 quintillion times in a slightly different hue.

Manbabies who take a criticism on their hobby as a personal attack
