JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable OT What a Beautiful Duwang

It's beautiful

It really is. I hope that the artist does more JoJo Stands.

The irony

Haha, you got me there! Thank you for not calling me out on misspelling "kewl" as well.

I watched Part 1 and 2 via the dub first and, outside of a few characters, it was very good. I especially liked Joseph's and Dio's voices and Jonathan's was good too. Everyone else was kinda what you'd expect from a dub.

Only thing the dub was missing was WRRRRYYYY. :p

That doesn't sound too bad at all! I've heard bits of Joseph and Dio and I agree and also like what I've heard from them. That's fair though, it sounds like a solid dub overall. I'll definitely be going back and forth between the Toonami and Blu-ray releases. Even without WRYYYYY, it wouldn't be hard to sell me on the dub. 😃 Any new way to experience JoJo is fine by me!

Why bother with the "wink wink nudge" crap in the first place? What do you get out of it other than potentially spoiling people?

I wouldn't consider it a spoiler normally either, but the whole attitude is stupid. Especially for a series like Jojo, where not knowing what's going to happen is part of the fun.

If you want to talk to a manga reader, go to the damn manga thread. Don't post "vague" spoilers and assume people won't get them.

It's an inside joke for some. They also literally say who the guy is and what he is in the preview so I thought it was fair game. People said the Killer Queen episode would be a blast before it was out.

Then go to the goddamn manga thread. I don't think I've seen you ever post there.

You know that people don't watch the previews to avoid spoilers, right?

Edit: And the Killer Queen "blast" jokes were just as stupid. The only reason I didn't point it out was because it'd make the spoiler obvious.

Don't be an ass and reduce other people's fun because you want to have fun with "inside jokes". That's just being a dick.

Better now?

Reminder: as far as things are concerned, post under the assumption that events that haven't been aired in the anime proper don't exist and respect the wishes of the anime-only crowd. Refrain from "hinting" and the like, it can be annoying to deal with lots of inside jokes when you're not in the know.

All previous parts are fair game though, Jotaro beats Dio at the end of part 3.

Inside jokes are for the manga thread, it really doesn't make sense to make them here. You could always go off like fireworks on twitter with all the jojokes you got and someone will probably internet high five you.

Just finished Stardust Crusaders. That definitely picked up in the last third but goddamn the first half of Egypt was a slog.

The Dio fight was pretty excellent. sad Kakyoin died but whatcha gonna do. It added stakes. Although Joseph coming back was a happy surprise.

I think the big problem with Stardust Crusaders is similar to that of Final Fantasy X in that the main character (Jotaro/Tidus) isn't really the main character. Joseph is much more of the main character than Jotaro. His daughter's life is on the line, he's settling the generation-long rivalry of his grandfather, he's traveling with his good friend Avdol... The entire thing is very much his story and Jotaro is just the muscle. And even though Jotaro has a similarish story it doesn't work because of how flat his character is by design. It's hard to believe that this was his journey to save his mother and settle the Joestar vs Dio war. His heart's just not in it, and at the end his big reason for fighting was "You pissed me off".

Watched the first episode of Diamond is Unbreakable and it's night and day how immediately enjoyable it was. Josuke already has so much flavour, he's pretty much Marty McFly (and there ain't nothing wrong with taking notes from BttF). Jotaro feels much more appropriate here as a side character of authority rather than angsty teenager. He's there for business. And his new outfit doesn't have random chain of coolness which is good because that ridiculous thing always bugged me. Although does his hat just.... morph into his hair? That's a bizarre item of clothing.

What's with the love hearts? They were on Dio's knees and belt and now they're everywhere.

THE COLOURS! Oh my god the colours this feels like Phantom Blood again in the best possible way. I love these intense wacky colours and all the tones shifting as the narrative tone shifts. It's perfect. I didn't realise how monotonous Stardust Crusaders had gotten and how little they played with things. This is the JoJo's I fell in love with.

What's the deal with Ripple suddenly being called Hamon? Did I miss something or is that just a translation thing. I think I have different subs from Phantom Blood/Battle Tendency than I do for Stardust and beyond. The first set also had a lot more flavour with accents.

Also what was the deal with Vanilla Ice being called "Cool Ice" when they are clearly saying vanilla. Same with Oingo Boingo. I loved the Pillar Men just being straight up called ACDC, Cars, Santana and Wham. Definitely something changed with the subs or they just took a different direction.

Yeah, most people agree Jotaro is much better as a mentor character than the main. Josuke is so much more relatable, like Joseph.

"Hamon" is just the Japanese word for "ripple", so it's just a translation thing.

All Stands from Part 4 onwards are song references rather than tarot/gods like Part 3. This causes issues with US trademark law, so Crunchyroll has to use alternative names in their subtitles. So Josuke's stand, Crazy Diamond is named after Shine On You Crazy Diamond, but it's "Shining Diamond" in Crunchyroll's subs.

Araki hid this more before Part 3, so Cars, Wham!, and AC/DC are officially Kars, Wamuu, and Esidisi even in Japan. Crunchyroll made Santana "Santviento", too.

Don't forget Led Zepplin made a cameo in Phantom Blood.

last week on Jojo's Bizarre Adventure

Gohan and Clint Eastwood fight David Bowie, his cat, and his tank, when Prince and Kuwabara come to help.

Did watch Part 1 & 2 on Crunchyroll or did you watch fansubs? Fansubs will just put in the actually name but official subs can't do that with all the copyright law stuff.

Yeah there are a lot of good Japanese artists on Twitter but at least half of them also draw porn or will retweet porn.

I guess thats the power of Comiket and the Doujinshi market

As far as I thought I was using entirely fansubs but perhaps not? The files were given to me by the person who recommended the series so I don't actually know.
