Kadokawa confirms Sony sent an acquisition letter

How much do you think Sony will have to pay to keep Miyazaki there? If this goes through, he seems like a guy who would leave, and open his own studio.

Opening up his own studio involves a huge amount of risk and capital

I suspect as long as he has control and autonomy, having Sony publish the games and providing financial and technical support is only a good thing and there’s not much reason to leave

I imagine Kojima studios is the blueprint (they'll likely offer them the decima engine too).

I've seen comments about how Sony will dictate to them about what they can/cannot include but some people are trolling, being dramatic or the're just stupid.

Assuming this goes through, you don't spend all this money then purposefully go out of your way to make the best talent from a world class studio want to leave - because people, especially those at the top, value their jobs/bonuses above pretty much anything else.

He's already worked with Sony twice before this to create exclusive games so I don't think he would have that much of an issue with it. Also the culture in Japan is a lot different than here in the US. I don't think he would leave unless Sony was doing something outrageous.

Things were crazy back then. Little did they know that it’s that acquisition that pushed Xbox to be a third party publisher

He looks like the type of guy in highschool who would go out of his way to remind the teacher that they didn't give the class a homework assignment on a friday afternoon.

People really want to push this fan fiction that Miyazaki and From Soft hate Sony, as some kind of hopium that the deal doesn't go through or that From splits off and doesn't become part of SIE. When reality shows they have always had a good working relationship.

Regardless, this deal is between Sony corp and Kadokawa. From Soft is not at the negotiating table. Miyazaki already works under a huge conglomerate. Don't see why he would care if that is replaced by a different one.

They already came to Sony to buy shares of From in the past so they could raise capital

Sony owns 14% of FromSoft

They obviously don’t hate each other, what a stupid narrative

Some of From's finest works came through their partnerships with Sony, so your doom and gloom has no basis to it at all.

In fact, the more likely outcome is that their games are going to be objectively better by having access to the support infrastructure and production values of all other first-party PlayStation games.

The key word here is partnership. They weren't owned by Sony and Sony execs weren't calling the creative shots. I don't trust them, they're too influenced by the weirdo culture in California, they're not really a Japanese corporation any more.

Sony execs don’t call creative shots. That’s why we get what we get in games from a myriad of studios and partnerships.

I've never heard any studio complain about Sony executives calling the creative shots. In fact the opposite is what I've always heard about Sony. What you're complaining about is individual studio decisions and then placing those decisions on Sony.

Hermen must have banged 99% of these posters moms or something

The amount of undue hate he receives is insane. Literally blamed for every potential fictitious scenario that would never happen

Well, if the trends continue Steam will likely be day-and-date for new releases by the time From cooks up their first Sony title. If not, I'll just buy a PS6 I guess. Hope they don't immediately start moving furniture around like they did with Bungie. That's the only real fear. Access is just a few hundred bucks and a groan away.

I am Become Bilbo Baggins
From Software going out with Elden Ring as the last good game.

Any future FS games I will not be pre ordering until I see reviews.

Ummm.... have you seen how Sony runs things?

Look into Bungie/Concord.

Relax. Sony and FS have a strong partnership and together have made two stunning games.

What makes you think Sony are going to change FS?

It's pretty amazing, isn't it:

well duh.

they didn't buy bethesda to keep giving games to Playstation.

same is true for Activision/Blizzard. eventually all those will be PC/Xbox exclusive.

No wonder I have all these idiotic trolls on ignore. It's all so fucking fake. What life do these people have?

A lot of talk on From but I’m interested in what they do with Dragon Ball.

Spike Chunsoft recently developed Sparking Zero.

Wouldn't this make Spike Chunsoft games Playstation exclusive as well? They were pretty Switch-focused this past gen.
Spike Chunsoft is not going to be under SIE, that's for sure.
They're owned by Kadokawa subsidiary, Dwango, which means that it will be a lot harder to move them around the group, so they will probably just stay there.

It would make sense to leave Spike and Acquire independent. Question is will Nintendo and Bamco still want to use their services under Sony.

Acquire is directly owned by Kadokawa unlike Spike Chunsoft, so they can be moved more easily. They would be either under SIEI or SMEJ.
About your question, as long as they're not under SIEI or Aniplex (different from going directly to SMEJ, keep this in mind), sure. Though it would probably be a bit harder, just not impossible.

Not sure what you mean? Spike is also fully owned by Kadokawa.

Falls on deaf ears as far as I'm concerned. It's too late.

Where was everyone with these comments when Microsoft were busy buying up half the industry a couple of years ago?
People were saying it but it was drowned out by folks saying it's "Sony's fault for content starving Xbox players" which is incredibly weird since the only thing Sony did was have their first party studios make exclusive games; something Microsoft has been slowly forgetting about since the OG Xbox and was obvious since the loop of Gears, Forza, Halo defined the X1

What I mentioned in the other post, yes, that's basically correct, but as a subsidiary of Dwango, which is the one company directly owned by Kadokawa.
Moving subsidiares OF subsidiaries is a lot, lot trickier, which is why I'm expecting zero changes regarding Spike Chunsoft.

Ah, gotcha. Would probably be for the best anyway.

Can you be excited from an objective standpoint? You must be very funny on bed.

The reason you posted was subjective (i.e. because people hate them).

Objectively, devs can be affected by these megacorp acquisitions. Longer dev times, less control of their game, more red tape, etc.

Really not that hard to understand.

The reason I posted was because I was quoting your post that reads like this:
Honestly, I don't think acquisitions are anything to get excited about after seeing the shit show that has been the past 5-10 years.

You apparently don't follow the news well. Sony has been actively buying up everything related to Anime and Manga for the last 10 years. Including studios, streaming services and publishing houses.
Aniplex, A-1 Pictures,CloverWorks, Madhouse,Toei Animation - These are all Sony studios, not counting smaller ones like JOEN.
And slowly but surely they are taking control of the Anime and Manga market.
These were all established by Sony (a joint venture with other companies in the case of JOEN), while SPEJ just owns a small 5% on Madhouse. Not sure where you're getting Toei Animation, at all.

I'm excited about it but if it was up to me it wouldn't be happening and I don't want it to. With that said it seems the company is looking to sell and if they are selling no matter what then I want Sony to get them.

I think it was the same for Zenimax which I'm glad MS got at this point since they are making it all 3rd party anyways.
