Keith Richards: Rap is crap, and Metallica and Black Sabbath are a joke

Cool. People his age are still going to see them struggle along. All right.

That doesn't equate to relevance. They haven't released an album in ten years, and it has been more than twenty years since they released an album anyone actually cared about.

They're at their sold-out shows playing songs that are older than we are.

Do you really think its just 70 year olds selling out stadiums? Lol. Stones are huge across 3 generations. To just scoff at a band selling out the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as being "uh, old people don't matter" is ridiculous. They're still one of the most popular touring bands on the planet. It doesn't matter who their fan base is or isn't. Taylor Swift sells out football stadiums, too. I guess it doesn't count because her fans are just dumb girls and you don't like the music.

Lol people getting mad at this. Come on now. He's an old dude. This is what most old dudes think. The Stones are great, Sabbath is great, rap is great, Metallica are okay (don't really dig anything post-Cliff).

There are about 10x the posters going "wow the salt in this thread is hilarious" then posters who are actually upset about this

Keith just hating rap is funny because if it existed when he was first starting out it would of "influenced" him like all the other forms of black music that existed at the time.

His criticism of rap doesnt makes any sense. I can only think of a handful of rappers that actually yell on tracks.

Honestly every time I hear him spouting off something else to get people pissed off, I can't help but think "Jesus he's still alive? How?" After the Millions and Millions and Millions he's no doubt spent on the strongest Heroin money can buy and drank his liver into like, at least 7 early deaths at this point.

It's a dumb opinion. But trying to drag down his or the rolling stones achievements just because he has a dumb opinion makes you also look stupid.

he's not wrong.

I'm indifferent to rap, and I couldn't care less about the genre.

Metallica are beyond awful, use to be pretty great with MoP but after ...AJFA they fell, and now just make shit music.
Black Sabbath, I've never liked, but I'm not a fan of 70's/80's music, like I hate it.

a lot of my threads involve me fucking up somehow. Perhaps I'm a moron?
Black Sabbath takes a massive dump on anything the Rolling Stones have put out.

What do you listen to, out of curiosity?

Like those are generally regarded as two of the biggest and best decades for music.

In all fairness they were pretty open about it and constantly spoke very highly of African-American Blues artists. But still, their whole fucking early career was doing blues covers.

Hahaha I was thinking the same think. You should have said nas or Kendrick Lamar.
P.S. Everyone who says that they hate rap listen to M.A.A.D city or to pimp a butterfly and tell me that u didn't find one song u liked in those albums

Dude, I'm a head through and through, and I'm telling you to not bother. People who don't like hip-hop will never like it. Trust me, I've tried, for years.

post punk gregorian chants, the only true genre.

Oh, well in that case...

And they would be the first to admit who their influences were when growing up.
Illmatic will be groundbreaking in the fact of lyricism and beats but Rolling Stones are the archetype in which we judge the Rock Star lifestyle and above everything else the longevity & influence they have in the entire music industry.

Kinda sad how saltly people get about his opinion of a genre of music his generation don't like.

fair, and i'm not taking from the better part of his body of work either - but the same way it's ignorant to dismiss an entire genre of music (not so much in response to you but the LOL SALTY meme in here), i do think you're painting with a broad brush giving a pass because of his generation.

yeah, older folks tend to not like sounds from after their time, but i have a hard time wrapping my head around a dude who took black music into counterculture and now dismisses something as alike/rebellious as hip hop out of pocket like that. he's a rock star/legend and they say wreckless shit, i get that, but i don't follow dismissing an ignornat view as salt.

Crack open a case of 36 Chambers and Liquid Swords my friend. If you're just getting into hip-hop you have so, so much amazing content ahead of you to discover. I'm a little jealous tbh.

If you disagree with Richards then you're a salty lunatic. No exceptions.

The only rational action here is to drive-by troll.

You're missing out man. 70s had so much good music in so many genres. It's my personal treasure trove decade of popular music.

Try reading what the OP hasn't bolded, he was obviously trolling and winding people up.

But don't let that get in the way of a good knee-jerk.

Progressive Metal (I Am Abomination, Protest the Hero), Metalcore (August Burns Red, Haste the Day), Hardcore Punk (Comeback Kid, Cancer Bats), Post-hardcore (Poison the Well, letlive.), Pop Punk (Four Year Strong), Alternative Rock (Billy Talent, Conditions), Indie Rock (Polyenso, Arcade Fire), Progressive Rock (Closure in Moscow).

I appreciate what the 70's/80's did for music, I really do, I just hate almost all of the music from those eras (Queen being the main exception)

Dammit. I thought you were going to post a bunch of garbage so I could yell at you more, but a few of those are some of my favourite bands. Either way, you're really missing out on some amazing shit from the 70s & 80s.

EDIT: And PTH is doing a fucking Kezia tour with the original lineup. So fucking stoked.

extra emphasis on MASSIVE dump.

Hahaha, you I like.

Brokencyde is my favourite band

I would love to go to one of their concerts, if I had the money. Alas, I do not.

In all honesty I'm not a huge fan of where the band went with the last 2-3 albums, but Kezia is easily in my top five of all time and I loved Fortress. I just lost interest when Rody started writing the lyrics. Give me back my concept albums you fuck, I don't care how much you like Newfoundland.

I don't think anyone gets more defensive or insecure about people not liking their music than rap fans.

What's the appeal of rap. It's just stupid ass comment

Happens more to some genres than others.

While I don't let what anyone thinks of what I listen to affect me, I don't understand how people can hate on entire genres these days.
