He's 100% correct in my book.

What's the appeal of rap. It's just stupid ass comment

Happens more to some genres than others.

While I don't let what anyone thinks of what I listen to affect me, I don't understand how people can hate on entire genres these days.

Hip-Hop and Metal make up about 97% of my musical taste, so I've been dealing with this ignorant shit my whole life. Drives me nuts but at some point you just have to shake your head and move on.

EDIT: Which is funny, because there are large groups in both camps that will say this exact same thing about the other.

Didn't Metallica OPEN UP for the Rolling Stones a few years ago when they were doing surprise opening bands?

http://www.mtv.com/news/1506869/metallica-opening-for-rolling-stones-in-san-francisco/

“Over the course of our career we’ve been fortunate enough to share the stage with a select few of the bands we grew up on, admired and respected including AC/DC, Deep Purple, Guns N’ Roses and Iron Maiden,” drummer Lars Ulrich said in a statement released Tuesday. “The only band that we have never played with but have always wanted to is the Rolling Stones.”

“Having the opportunity to play with them this November in our hometown of San Francisco is both an honor and a privilege. And it’s bound to be a lot of f—in’ fun, especially since we haven’t special guested since 1992!” Ulrich said."

I guess the respect Metallica had for the 'Stones fell on Keith's deaf, wrinkled, pot-stained ears?

Fascinating coming from a guy who's a C guitar player at best, whose band had loads of ghost writers, and made mere imitative pop music.

I mostly agree with him about Black Sabbath and Metallica though.

Sabbath were a thousand times more original than the fucking Stones and most other bands at the time. Posters dismissing them or agreeing with Keith are fucking mental. They've had, arguably, a far greater influence in helping to create an entire HUGE genre of music than the Stones did. At least he has the excuse of A. Obvious trolling and B. Being an old man.

The rest of y'all however:

EDIT: Fuck you guys, I'm gunna get drunk and rock out to Master of Reality.

Dramatization of a Keith Richard's solo:

Doo doo, do weee wee wee wee - DRAMATIC PAUSE- doo doo, do wee wee wee we, weeeeoooowwww

-then back to the main riff/verse.

Yea, but that's not a joke of course, cause it's the Stones.

Keith's greatness was in his riffs and songwriting ability. Honestly, he was often at his best when he was playing rhythm and weaving with someone else. He'd probably be the first to tell you that someone like Mick Taylor was better technically than him.

And of course complexity or being a virtuoso means basically nothing when it comes to making good music or being a good songwriter.

Beggar's Banquet
Let It Bleed
Sticky Fingers
Exile On Main St.

All in the span of 5 years. Damn. (The Beatles are also a great example)

It's pretty insane how we're lucky to have a band release an album every two years and have it be as good as they're last, but to release an album every year better then their last? Doesn't happen too much anymore.

Wild horses? Angie? Jumpin' jack flash? Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (heart breaker)? Beast of burden? Brown sugar? Satisfaction?

This is my not kinda thread.

::looks towards judges::

ohhhhh sorry, we would have accepted Shine a Light, Let it Loose, Sweet Virginia, or Torn and Frayed

aka if it ain't on Exile...

Cool. People his age are still going to see them struggle along. All right.

That doesn't equate to relevance. They haven't released an album in ten years, and it has been more than twenty years since they released an album anyone actually cared about.

They're at their sold-out shows playing songs that are older than we are.

As long as people are still listening to the music and still going to the shows, it's still relevant. That's like, the very definition of relevance.

Actually, I don't really hate Sabbath. I get that they're one of the firsts of their type. It just seems to me that it's been done better by most everyone who came after them. Perhaps I overstated.

I don't think anyone has topped War Pigs or Jack the Ripper/Fairies Wear Boots

Keith Richards stan, huh. Whatever, man, hahahaha.

No one is taking your forty-year-old music away from you.

I don't even like the Rolling Stones.

I like Metallica (well before they went to utter shit) and Black Sabbath. And hip hop... I also enjoy blues, jazz and yes classical music.

Just because I don't personally like something doesn't make it irrelevant. See also country music.

So you agree with Keith Richards that the Beatles were best before 1967 and crap after that?

Oh my bad, I thought he said the Beatles were just crap in general. I think they are, and I'm from Liverpool. This is like sacrilege where I am from.

People who generalize and dismiss entire genres of music are ignorance personified. So yeah, you're wrong.

No, I don't think I'm ignorant at all. I just don't like rap music. Why does this bother you so much? So salty and defensive over a random person's opinion on the Internet.

Man first you shit on Radiohead then you shit on Sabbath.

well what can I say Radiohead is nothing more than an uppity one-hit-wonder band who pedantically uses bizarre instruments and noise and calls it art.

I'm taking the piss on Radiohead. I love their music (all of it). It's just soooo easy to rile up fans

If Tchaikovsky were alive today, he'd probably have a bit of moan about Pitbull.

I'm not really a fan of Keith, but anyone saying he's a C Rate guitarist, link me to a vid of your guitar skillz and I'll happily critique for you.

Old white man said something bad about rap? I'm shocked. This is unprecedented.

I'm still lost as to why this is ok to say. What does his colour have to do with it? How many 70+ year old black men like hip hop? The Stones are built on black music and they aren't exactly shy about it.

Touring wasn't the huge deal back then that it is now, that takes up a year of a bands time whenever they do an album. Also, it didn't take anywhere near as long to record albums.

But but Malmsteen can shred!!!

Technical virtuosity means fuck all if you can't compose for shit. Tons of noodlers out there on youtube that probably can't write something coherent to save their life.

I consider Richards to be more than a C rate guitarist but I don't buy into the argument that people's criticism is invalid based on whether or not they can do better themselves. I'm sure than Mark Sanchez is vastly more qualified to be an NFL QB than myself but I think it's plenty fair for me to look at what he has done at that level and say he sucks. I don't feel that I need to have written a bestselling novel in order to conclude that James Patterson is a no talent hack.

So are you going to explain exactly whey the Beatles were "crap in general" or can we safely assume it's just an opinion you espouse to show how edgy you are?

Because some people have to make everything about race.

What a cliche response. About as inventive as a Rolling Stones song. I give it a D which is slightly worse than Keith Richards guitar playing.

if you call the stones "mere imitative pop music" you don't know what the fuck are you talking about and that's not much to discuss, other than than pointing out how idiotic is the never ending circle jerk about "white british men stealing black music".
