I'm seeing this guy tomorrow night. I'm damn hyped!
dee bitchass niggaz keelt my brotherrr! It's really pathetic that I've listened to this so much that I have all the skits memorized
Sing about me is worlds better than dying of thirst.
dee bitchass niggaz keelt my brotherrr!
Shut yo dumb ass back down.
Holy fuck. Haven't been into this kind of stuff all year, but finally got it and sat down for a listen. Had to pause it half way through to make this post. This album is amazing. Rather LttP than miss the party of the year
Love the way he says thank God after that line too.The second half is even better, IMO. Also, make sure you listen to Black Boy Fly (one of the deluxe edition tracks). Shit gives me goosebumps every time I hear"I wasn't jealous of the talents they got / I was terrified they'd be the last black boys to fly"
It's that chorus, where the pitch of his voice raises ever so slightly, it's horrendous! That track is definitely not indicative of Kendrick. I love it, but it just fits in the context of the album. His voice is different, that is for sure. Couldn't hurt to try the album though.
Actually, Us and Them is probably the second most accessible track that can be played on its own, behind "Money".yeah, more cohesive shit like this is rarer these days, so you tend to forget: you can play tracks as singles, but it's not gonna flow the same way. you can do it, but i don't recommend just playing track 6 of dark side of the moon outta nowhere either, unless the crowd is super familiar with the album.
What, poetic justice is great
Cool. I'll give it a try.
I usually like really tight, rhythmic rapping like Azealia Banks. The kind of rapping where you think, "even if I knew all the words, there is no way I could flow like that!" Kendrick just seems to slur slowly, there seems to be little technical skill to his approach.
Anyway, I'm commenting after only one track, there are a few tracks I hated on Azealia's album, so I'll give it a fair shot.
I get the context and how it belongs or whatever, but yup, at the end of the day, it sucks.Backseat Freestyle is awful. Damn the context. The song just sucks.
I've only heard "Backseat Freestyle", but I thought it was terrible. His voice is such a drag, all slurry and monotonous, sounds like he's drunk.
Is that track a good representation of the album? Or is it quite eclectic?
I get the context and how it belongs or whatever, but yup, at the end of the day, it sucks.
Probably the best track on the album tho
I liked Backseat Freestyle before I heard it in the context of the album. there it got even better, but I don't see why a guy having fun rapping about stupid shit in double and then triple time is so repulsive. let loose.
It's that chorus, where the pitch of his voice raises ever so slightly, it's horrendous!
"All my life I want money and power
Respect my mind or die from lead shower
I pray my dick get big as the Eiffel Tower
So I can fuck the world for 72 hours"
Super whack lyrics too.
:/
From what I can tell, it makes much more sense in the context of the album. I think it's supposed to be a callback to his first time rapping. In the backseat of a car with his homies who put a beat CD on. It's kind of like his first attempt at a rap chest-puff. Makes sense at least. It's more like the lyrics (hook at least) are ironic/self-aware in their whackness.
Am I right or wrong about that? Haven't read the whole thread, I'm a newcomer.
Backseat Freestyle is awful. Damn the context. The song just sucks. Very disappointed in Hit-Boy and Kendrick.
At least Real is good for like the first minute until you realize that annoying ass hook is gonna get beat into the ground over the next 7 minutes
Probably the best track on the album tho
