btw: I hope that the success of GKMC makes people realize how awesome concept/storytelling albums are cause ever since I first heard this I love them:

Disposable Arts is legit the only hip-hop album that I don't mind/like the skits

"Hello? Yeah, where my motherfucking dominoes at?"

"Where my motherfucking dominoes at?"

"This the second time I asked you to bring my fucking dominoes."

That gets me every time I hear that track, lol.

bleg stop using overrated. overrated means nothing. what did you think. actual opinions. I'd rather read a goddamn scathing review that's reasonable than an "eh overrated." worst thing.

Well, given it has been highly praised by the critics and by most people on GAF, I think the term overrated is called for. I just don't see what's so special about this album. I found some songs to be even boring to be honest.

no but you don't understand: overrated doesn't state anything about your own opinion other than that it's different from what you perceive to be the consensus. It doesn't offer anything constructive or intelligent. if the thrust of your argument is "this is overrated" then your argument means nothing on its own.

Are you aware of the album's theme and how well it is presented and how socially relevant it is?

Meeeeh. It has a couple of good songs, but overall it feels as the most overrated album of the year.
Yup, heard three tracks now.

I just don't get it. He just lazily slurs lame lyrics over dated beats.

I mean, if it was just another hip-hop record, I'd just be like "yeah, it's not very good". But this is being hailed as the best album of the year.

Edit: I don't care about the theme, or how socially relevant it is. Whack music is whack music.

Wow, watched the Recipe lyric video, and reading/knowing the lyrics as I listen makes it better. Amazing wordplay, and the transition from Dre to Kendrick in the 2nd verse is fantastic.

Awesome video too haha

I just can't agree. Big Smoke wasn't joking, Kendrick didn't try to write in Dre's style at all. Dr Dre sounds just like Kendrick would if he got hit in the trachea with a sleeping dart.

I dont know if you know this, but sometimes you actually have to pay attention to the lyrics, shocking i know. If you want something bumpable in your whip, this album isn't for you. The album is so cohesive and well put together, i also think that the production is fantastic too.

If you are trying to push this album, I'd advice against paying attention to the lyrics. I mean:

"Me and my niggas tryna get it, ya bish
Hit this house lick tell me is you with it, ya bish
Home invasion was persuasive
From nine to five I know its vacant, ya bish
Dreams of living life like rappers do
Back when condom wrappers wasn't cool"

:/

This is that awesome rapper right? I haven't been listening to some cheap knock off by accident?

Yeah I don't see what you're trying to prove with quoting those lyrics, they're fine and that's only the beginning of the song where he's talking about the house they hit up in peer pressure.
The lyrics are fantastic, this is form good kid:

Look inside these walls and you see them having withdrawals
Of a prisoner on his way
Trapped inside your desire
To fire bullets that stray
Track attire just tell you I'm tired and ran away
I should ask a choir what do you require
To sing a song that acquire me to have faith
As the record spin I should pray
For the record I recognize that I'm easily prey
I got ate alive yesterday
I got animosity building
It's probably big as a building
Me jumping off of the roof
Is me just playing it safe
But what am I supposed to do
When the topic is red or blue
And you understand that I ain't
But know I'm accustomed to
Just a couple that look for trouble
And live in the street with rank
No better picture to paint than me walking from bible study
And called his homies because he had said he noticed my face
From a function that tooken place
They was wondering if I bang
Step on my neck and get blood on your Nike checks
I don't mind because one day you'll respect
The good kid, m.A.A.d. city

EDIT: Nvm looking through this thread it's obvious you haven't listened to the entire album, from the beginning to end. Lol the first track you listen to is backstreet freestyle, which out of cthe context of the album doesn't work, and you quote the chorus to promote your agenda that the album is terrible and has whack lyrics. Sounds like you are just going through random song lyrics for the album and quoting lyrics which when taken out of context sound terrible.

How about LISTENING TO THE WHOLE FUCKING ALBUM?

He won't, he's just here to troll it seems obvious now.
To be fair, those lyrics are a lot better.

The ones I've heard from Backseat and Money Trees were just garbage, total bilge.

Ok, now instead of trolling the thread, go listen to the album from beginning to end, it's a very cohesive narrative you can't just randomly listen to backseat freestyle and then money trees and go "LOL this album sucks". Also wtf, how can you think money trees is terrible, I really doubt you listened to it. Jay rock kills his verse.

Yeah, I often go out and spend a tenner on an album after disliking the first three tracks I've heard.

It'd be great if the first three track you heard were, you know the first three tracks lol. This is one of those rare real hip hop albums, not just a bunch of singles or tracks that are vaguely related to each other but a real cohesive project. Maybe people are just so used to the former they just treat albums as a bunch of songs from an artist they are interested in and don't listen to the entire thing and skip through the tracks until they find something bumpable.

So using Spotify/Grooveshark/Youtube is equivalent to robbing someone?
Quite a few artist definitely feel that way about Spotify because they get barely barely any money from it. I mean I don't know how much rappers get but I remember reading a band talking about they get just a dollar or some shit lol. I doubt it's different with rappers.

Yea, I read that. But I'm not about to feel sorry for Kendrick Lamar because people listened to his album on Spotify. I'm sure he got his pay day just fine :P

Never youtube albums. Google automatically changes the pitch or speed of songs from any official album releases, obviously its fine to use youtube for independent releases like mixtapes and shit as they are not altered since they are free anyway, but for real label releases google alters songs to avoid copyright, or maybe the uploaders do it themselves. Look for some album song on youtube released by a big label, audio only obiously, and you'll find that the results all have varying lengths and if you compare them to the actual song you will notice that they differ in pitch or are slowed down/sped up. I noticed this when listening to money trees and clique off of youtube. Most people don't notice so I guess no one cares.

After listening to it a couple of times, I thought that album was alright.

It is definitely a nicely packaged cohesive piece of work. Kendrick did a good job of crafting a whole picture without compromising; and the storytelling is solid.

However, I find myself only really enjoying a few of the songs. The rest, I'm just like, meh, whatever.

Come on now, don't be negative. We have some precious souls in here...

Nobody gives a fuck about constructive criticism as long as you listened to the entire thing. You listened to backstreet freestyle and maybe money trees (I doubt it, it sounds like you just opened up the lyrics to look for something to quote out of context to prove your point) and then proceeded to troll the thread.

You haven't even listened to the album, what are you talking about?
It just a joke man! This just seems to be a particularly touchy thread.

Heaven knows where I got that from.

Perfect example.

"You didn't like Money Trees? You obviously didn't listen to it then."

Come on man, really?

The uploaders have to do it in order for Google to not take it down. It wouldn't make sense for Google to do it themselves to circumvent their own matchmaking system...

And it's nowhere near always. There are plenty of videos on there with no pitch changes.
