Kickstarter: Fidget Cube. For people who can't keep their hands still.

My fidget cubes from the March backer tier finally shipped. They're set to arrive on Monday. I'm excited to see how they turned out for myself. I've got the Gamer and Backer exclusive color schemes.

I've had both of mine for about a month now and they're quite nice.

Some of the clicks can be loud, like pen loud so be careful or people might get upset with you during meetings!

I ordered this one from Amazon over a month ago.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N3UN0QE/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Was like 2-3 bucks with shipping. Took about 3 weeks to get here since it came from China in a vanilla bubble envelope and no other packaging, lol.

But it's high quality as far as I can tell. Has a good weight, and a soft touched feel to the plastic, all the buttons work as intended. I think it's a crap shoot on what quality you will receive though. Since I ordered I've noticed new reviewers claiming they have received really bad plastic ones that broke immediately. Good luck

edit: here's what I'm talking about

Luckily I got the better version (the one on the left).

Received legit cubes from the Kickstarter campaign. They're fine. Not amazing. Not horrible. Look and feel a little cheaper than I expected. The seams where they're plastic welded/glued together don't look great. My backer green one has something that rattles a little inside, and the slider makes a bit of a grinding noise internally that my "gamer" color one does not.

Can't imagine people paying $25 for these things. $17 for the backer price is about the upper end I can imagine paying for this quality of an item, and I'd really expect to see them flying off shelves at $10 or less.

I've discovered over the last few weeks through my teenage nephew, 5th grade teacher wife, and my friends kid in junior high that these Fidget cubes and Fidget spinners are like the fucking RAGE in schools nowadays

My nephew said his buddy bought like 50 of each off AliExpress sells them at school for 10 bucks a pop. Sold out in 3 days. Wish I had that kind of entrepreneurial spirit in high school (also, the internet).

I was at 7-11 and 4 people in line ahead of me bought a fidget spinner. One employee was calling people to let them know they were in stock. Of course I bought one.

I was at Walmart last week and saw a shelf display that had a few dozen of them for $5. I wanted to do some more research, and when I came back the next day to buy one, they were all gone. You can find them pretty easily on Amazon, but no local stores had them in stock except for mall kiosks that were selling them for $20 each. (Related to the topic at hand, they also sell the knockoff Fidget Cubes for $20 as well.)

I ended up going on Amazon and buying some nice quality metal fidget spinners. They should be here in a few days.

Preordered one of them last month but seeing as how they seem to have trouble getting these things shipped I decided to grab one of the cheaper ones on ebay while I wait. The knockoff is pretty nice so far but the analog stick feels like it's grinding on something when I use it and often gets stuck. All the other sides seem to work just fine though.

My SO bought me this one and it broke withing the first minutes :lol
Thing that broke is in the image, this thumb like analog stick just fell off of it.

So I tried one of these. Most of the sides are pretty satisfying to fiddle with, but the analog stick thing is awful. It should have a more ergonomic top, and some spring to it like the sticks on a controller.

what's a good generic one to buy? i'd grab a fidget and a spinner, i'd spend maybe $10 on each but i'm not paying $20 for them individually. any decent ebay or amazon ones that won't just fall apart?

These are the stupidest thing I have ever seen and even my eight year old got bored basically instantly

Mine shipped a while ago, but it still hasn't arrived. I'm starting to think it got lost.

Got mine in today, I ordered the official one, but didn't back the kickstarter. I like it so far, I have kept it in my pocket and found myself fiddling with it quite a lot today. I have ADHD so this is actually kind of useful to me. Time will tell how much I actually use it, and whether my fidgeting goes purely into that instead of something else (like my leg bouncing).

I had the same thing, where DHL said it delivered to USPS, USPS tracking said it hadn't received it. It was like that for 3 days and I put in a ticket for it. Suddenly it was just in the mail today.

I ordered an official one three months ago and they said it would be dispatched early March. Still hasn't moved. Think I'm gonna just email and cancel.

I got a bootleg recently for 2-3 dollars and I also played with my coworker's real one.

My problem with this design is that doesn't have nearly enough buttons. IMO at least 3 sides of it should have buttons of various give. I would love to have a push pen type buttons because that's my favorite type of things to push. Some of the faces like the controller push stick is bullshit. Who wants to push that?

Secondly the cube is not very ergonomic. It's not comfortable to hold. I think a bigger ball type thing or thick pen type shape would be easier to hold for hours.

Saw some of these at Walmart last night. They were in the plastic security boxes that they have to unlock for you, like a high price item or something. So weird lol

My Antsy Labs fidget cube has apparently been in Australia since the 14th of April but it hasn't been delivered by DHL and I haven't seen any sorry we missed you cards.

Can't get a response from Antsy or DHL. So I've given up on actually receiving it.

Don't worry, you're not missing much. These things have maybe one day of a modest novelty factor. After that, eh. Gave mine away.

I still don't get these things and the ball bearing spinner things that also seem popular at the moment.

Those are insanely popular at the moment with kids. I actually caught myself saying "when I was a kid, we had to entertain ourselves with video games".

Yep. No idea why anyone would buy these gimmicks. Just a waste of money.

"Knowing in advance that I don't understand why people like these things and that I have no interest in finding out, I nevertheless feel my opinion on them is very important." Cool?

I mocked this idea when it debuted, but several of my friends got cubes and I realized they're amazing. Doesn't have to be a cube, though I do like the features on it - but having something to do with my hands has helped with snacking when I watch a show and with being focused in my long-ass seminars. I got a knock-off with a Groupon deal (one of the better knock-offs) and I'll get a real one eventually, or something similar. Cube won me over.

Working in a public school - they are currently the bane of every teacher's existence. There is always a new fad item that kids like that annoys teachers, but I think this one (spinners) is quite exceptional in its ability to annoy adults. Its like gum plus cellphones plus pokemon cards.. while spinning.

Customs processing can take a lot of time, especially when shipped cheap/low priority

Interesting to hear how much these thing blew up. Was in Hong Kong for a week and they are like everywhere on the markets (especially the spinners) and I was a bit confused.

You're probably looking at the counterfeits. They're everywhere. AntsyLabs are the only brand you should get.

Of course they are the "fake" ones. It was just interesting to see, how China has a whole industry around this stuff by now, while AntsyLabs is still busy shipping to backers. It must be the like the #1 export at the moment.

Welp, gonna have to find my survey email and check what's wrong.

How's that? It's been a while since my school days, but I distinctly remember any toys or other non-schoolwork-related items being at risk of confiscation at least until the end of the day.

Antsy Lab's Fidget Cube - A Review

With the out-of-nowhere spinner fad I assumed that we'd see more cubes around but so far I haven't seen many in the wild.

I saw a real Antsy cube display at Gamestop.

791330af-f498-45fa-9675-40ac1f1dbf12.jpg

It comes in a box like this and the display says "As Seen On Kickstarter."

Gamestop was charging $14.99 and the clerk told me they'd already dropped the price from $20 but it wasn't moving. Gamestop's website now lists these cubes for $11.99, fyi.

That was still more than I was willing to pay so I passed as well.

Barnes and Noble was selling a knock-off for $9.99 but it was a little bigger and shittier looking. Pass.

Today, though, I saw the Antsy cubes at Target for $8.99. "What the fuck," I said and bought a charcoal grey one. I prefer the white-with-black-buttons but I assume the white will look dirty and gross after awhile.

Well, $8.99 was okay but I honestly feel like $5 is the right price for this build quality.

The cube itself feels nice and has a good weight, good plastic. Doesn't feel too chintsy.

The pen buttons are great, a good selection of feelings.

The tumbler spinners and ball bearing are also great, the former has a good clicky spin and the latter has its own clicky button when you push down on it. Both have a solid feel.

The light switch is fun to play with but i do wish their was a tad more resistance.

The sliding joystick is a disappointment. Don't go in expecting something on par with the 3DS's. It's the same idea but it feels rough and cheap, the movement feels almost grindy, it doesn't glide smoothly.

The spinner sucks. It feels shitty and the little nub slips off your thumb too easily. I would have put a bumpy texture on it.

The "worry stone" groove is a waste of a side, it's not satisfying at all.

I do like just holding it in my hand and even rotating the cube in your fingers feels good. I feel like I will use it a lot, especially when driving. To that end I wish it had a keychain loop.

In summation:

i-dont-know-what-i-expected-gif-10.gif

Don't pay more than $10. Pay less if you can.

I was at a pharmacy the other day, where they had some knock-off Fidget Cubes at the counter. A kid picked one up and said, "Ooh, it's one of those... Fidget Spinner Cubes!"

It makes me really sad that Antsy got punished for revealing their whole design early on. They are undeniably who kicked off the cubes. And the spinners were named after the cubes.

The spinners are so dumb. They don't have the same appeal.

Maybe the spinners would be better for fidgeting if they were really small?

Also, LOL @ doing spinner tricks. Get a fucking Yo-Yo.

And those digital spinner apps, wtf even is that? I assume it's little kids that are downloading them.

In general I support original creators provided they are offering a better device than others but after Antsy Labs licensed manufacturing and distributing rights to Zuru toys who then pledged to aggressively crack down on people selling counterfeits and then started selling the official cubes in stores for less than people paid on Kickstarter before the last batches had been sent to backers kinda soured me on them.
Early adopters always pay more but to be a early adopter and pay more then not have yours show up before the real things show up in stores for much less than you paid rubs me the wrong way.
There is still a fair bit of people that never received their cubes from the campaign as well.

But hey they got licensed comic cubes now.

I bought the captain America one a couple of weeks ago. That fucking sucks tho :/

I paid close to $30 for one of the official ones a couple months ago (canadian + shipping).

Absolute crap, wouldn't recommend. The quality is terrible and maybe 1 side if that, is even't remotely satisfying.
