I can't speak for others, but I mentioned R2 because it's the latest online game to come out for PS3 which I played recently. I didn't mention CoD4 or WAW because I haven't played the latter and havn't played CoD4 in over a year. Didn't intend on making cry Fersis.

In a perfect world yeah. Please tell me how I can tell every member of the KZ2 community to put TB off in the title tho

But it's not just that, you might find a game which says TB off yet you get there and boost + Rocket Launchers/Grenades are on combined with some epic lag. You then have to leave and try and find another game. Being able to search for it would just make the whole process more convenient which is what online gaming should be. Not everyone is gonna name their game with the relevant info and the character limit is fairly small.

Also if you can disable certain classes/weapons in games why can't I search for games which have those classes/weapons banned.

If we had the search options available, I'd only ever search for 16 player games, auto balance off when GAFe guys are online, auto balance on when it's just me, no assault/boost and no rocket/grenade launchers. But then you'd get there and it'd probably be 8 vs 4 or something stupid and lagging like a sonafabitch.

For every day I play this game and think it's perfect there's another day where I think it's a complete POS.

Every single game I tried to play today was an absolute laggy mess. Lag pisses me off more than anything, and it's not because I lose or whatever. I joined Lince in a game after 2 rounds had already finished and I ended up top of the winning team with ease, but I still thought that game was an unacceptable mess.

Then we tried to find different games and all we could find were games that were unplayable due to lag, or the teams were stacked. Then we couldn't find a decent game for the next 30 mins and ended up just quitting. After the others left I ended up settling for some laggy game with boost enabled. Urgh.

Why the fuck Guerrilla games havn't given us more search options since launch as well I'll never know. In fact they've reduced the amount despite the fact the search options in this game are some of the worst I've ever seen. Let me search for games with auto balancing on/off. Let me see the settings before I fucking join the game. It's bad enough when Lince finds a game, tells me in the chat straight away and it's already full by the time I press join. But at least with no party system allow us to properly search for and see the settings of games ffs.

I'm surprised people even come back to this game at times.

It's a shame, because having played R2's competitive recently it made me appreciate just how much better KZ2 is than anything else out there... when everything works. Everything else is just so bland compared to KZ2.

I'm really hoping the next patch adds a lot more search options and allows us to the see the settings before we join. People have been demanding this since launch and search options have actually been taken away. Ones I used to find games with maps I enjoy the most. And for the love of god reduce spawn invincibility, randomness of headshots. Those coupled with lag and boost are just disgusting quite frankly. Shame you can't patch the crippling lag tho.

I don't really need more maps, I can play most of the current ones forever they're so good. Just fix the issues and hurry up with it. I and many others are growing impatient. Lots of people have left already and aren't coming back.

If not then when I get to 100,000 points I'm probably gonna finish with the game completely.

excellent post, that's my love-hate relation with Killzone 2, so much potential wasted in terrible design decisions... p2p ? no party system ? no search filters ? boost / assault / rockets ? yeah right, tell me why you're bleeding players every week instead of growing a healthy KZ2 community that would last until KZ3. You can clearly see how KZ2 is slowly turning into MGO, a niche FPS full of flaws and played by a minority.

I already have over 90,000 points... if the next patch doesn't address the troubles and headaches just to play with my GAFe friends then I'll just reach 100k and move on, I'm finding myself wasting more time trying to find a decent game than actually playing. 70% of the games are bodycount only, that should make GG stop for a minute and think what's going on. What's the point of objectives-based games if you can't play with friends and take it seriously? don't reply with the "clan system" stuff, that's broken with glitchers and exploiters.

I'd really love to know what went wrong with the design flaws, budget? time constraints? SCEE forcing to go peer-to-peer? testers?

if they ever release a glitch/exploit-free Killzone 2 "Subsistence" with party system and dedicated servers I'll buy three copies.

You guys have obviously played more KZ 2 than I have and I'm sure many of your complaints are valid but on American servers KZ 2 has some of the best p2p netcode around. In the early going a lot of GAFFERS couldn't tell whether the game was P2P or being hosted on dedicated Sony servers. I don't like that a lot of features are missing but I can't say they dropped the ball on the netcode - the game runs better than 99.9% of the other games out there.

Well I can only speak for European servers in general but it's one of the laggiest online games I've ever played. We played in a polish game earlier today and it was unbearable. Then a German one, and you'd think that'd be fine but god no. Just as bad if not worse. When we find a game with minimal lag it's like a breath of fresh air.

If you want to see how laggy the game can get try playing in some European servers and see how bad it can be when the game host is across the Atlantic. Now imagine that during an important clan game with boost and shit on. I had the misfortune of having to play in some clan game a week or so ago with VGchartzz at the last minute because one of our officers (yes you negaiido you're demoted! :lol ) accepted it only a day before and didn't tell anyone because he's banned. One of the children from that site was host and it was one of the laggiest games I've ever witnessed. People taking a full clip before they'd die, people taking 3-4 headshots and having them not register. Getting a kill while you're lying dead on the ground due to death delay. That's always a funny one. I've seen death delay go up to and beyond 5-10 seconds, I shit you not. The best combo is spawn grenades and lag! Getting killed by a guy who doesn't appear to have even fully spawned yet. Boost is just an added bonus on top of that.

Is that acceptable for SCEE's biggest online game this generation? It's a disgrace at times.

And apparently we're going to play VGchartzz again so I've got another unbearable lag fest to look forward to! yay!

I can play any class very well and I'm always a step ahead during missions by preparing for the next in the last few seconds of the current mission. I also know the maps well and can gurantee I won't lose during assassination on Pyrrhus and Visari Hammer.

Really it's just for fun and to move on up into clan battles and tournaments.

For me, it's the opposite, I've played R2 competitive and find the experience so much better compared to KZ2. KZ2 pisses me off with the shitty netcode/wonky hit detection that I just question why I'm even playing this. I patiently slowly try to rank up in hopes that playing other classes besides Medic and Engineer will make me like the game more, but so far, I'm starting to like it less and less as time goes on, seeing the huge faults and issues it has.

I can try to look past missing features like no party system or invite system, since I love the overall gameplay, but the netcode is just ruining multiplayer for me.

I dunno, maybe I should stop playing so many damn shooters

Thats so strange..i dont have the most healty connection in the world but i have never experienced lag in KZ2. I play on EU servers and i am from Turkey which is far from most of the EU countries. Games are smooth as Warhawk!

But what i hate is lack of party system and uber slow menus. I hate when it takes few seconds to load game list and i hate that i cant join to rooms even if they show 31/32 players.

Well Warhawks games are smooth only when i join to servers from my region, since u can see server pings in Warhawk if i dont join to some room with ping over 250 i will never feel lag.

Its true that the lag is rarely bad enough for me to complain but it does happen. R:FOM had the best online ever. Could propably have played it on a 14k modem and it would have run smooth.

That said the whole online part of KZ2 feels a bit mushy...it's a mix of the controls (I don't say they are bad, I like what they tried but they could be a bit better still), the lag, the long ass death animations etc. ...yeah, it's fun, but it's not very responsive, especially if you compare it to R2.

Did they change the controls again? I was used to have y-axis one setting higher than x-axis so they are equally fast but for some reason it feels strange now.

nope, I'm pretty sured they tweaked and toned down auto-aim for some weapons (ISA rifle) though.

It not the developers we have to convince, its the majority of players. This is instead of GG fixing a proper search.

A standard like
"TBFF PHR NANR" = Team Balancing off, Friendly Fire off, Pyrrhus Rise, Helghan Industries, Radec Academy, No Assault, No Rocket
Could be shortened to
"TF PHR AR" I dont know how much space there is.
