it's good to see devs being so engaged with the community.
Yeah. They're working their asses off for sure. Great to see that they're dedicated to building a strong new IP.

All teams are dedicated to building a strong new IP. Very few are so open and use Web 2.0. Most of them talk to fans through press-releases and watered-down inteviews.
IGN has a very in depth ongoing review at their website. Check it out Here
Indeed, it's Reckoning's gameplay that keeps rising to the top for me, because it's just so much better and far beyond what its WRPG contemporaries have done. It's arcadey, to be sure, but when you compare it to the three popular fantasy RPGs of our time -- Skyrim, Dark Souls and Dragon Age -- Reckoning easily outclasses all of them in the gameplay department. The competition isn't even remotely close in any respect.
Win.
I define meaningful content as main quest + guild quests + deadra quests + civil war + about 90% of the sidequests. To me the rest is just filler or a copypasta of the before mentioned stuff. Apart from the Thieves Guild you can blaze through it pretty fast. When I finished the above stuff I was pretty much a god (playing on normal), so all the misc objectives and mini-quests aren't really interesting anymore for me.
I think the IGN reviewer has a very set idea of what qualifies as "three popular fantasy RPGs of our time"... One of the biggest pc rpg launches of the last few years, except for Skyrim of course, doesnt merrit a mentioned?
The Witcher 2 had an awesome world, hard and meaningful action oriented combat that forced you to use traps, potions and strategy instead of just mashing buttons...
I can understand why Witcher 2 has not been mentioned considering that game has not been released for consoles yet. Considering the console base is unfortunately the place to be when it comes down the popularity I can understand his top 3. Not to mention a very small fact that this game seems to cater a whole lot towards console gamers.

Eh, just think he's using the broadest reference points rather than any sort of statement on quality. Might have a point with Dark Souls. No clue if that's sold more than Witcher 2.

They are giving it a 9.
I'll come right out and say it: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning will be discussed when Game of the Year 2012 rolls around. It has brought the conversation about what combat can be in the role-playing genre to the forefront and sets the bar exceptionally high for its future contemporaries in the genre. Closing Comments: IGN Review
I don't think that's much of a choice, but that's just me. -.-Choices choices. Amalur, Darkness II and SSX this month or a PSVita and Uncharted. Sigh.....

That's a pretty bold statement.

8.5 Presentation
Amalur totes an impressive story penned by one of the great fantasy authors of our time, and it takes place in a fantastic fictional world.
Indeed. Apart from Portal 2 GotY was pretty much Got November. Amalur will be dropped like a stone come GotY season. Not hating on the game because it looks like a great effort but Q1 titles are pretty much DoA if you're not some extreme high profile like Re4 and ME2 were.
You can get the first three for bomba prices in two months. I'd take the Vita.
R.A. Salvatore is one of the great fantasy authors of our time? Really IGN? REALLY?
Never said it wasn't successful. It simply isn't as big as the aforementioned franchises.A million copies sold in less than 2 months for a pc exclusive rpg is more than enough to be considered highly successful.![]()
Better combat than Dark Souls? We sure about that? Can someone give me an honest answer? I'm hard pressed to believe something out there captures the power and weight of weapon/shield combat like Dark Souls.

And now we hypocritically jump on the IGN bandwagon.

Hopes Fable franchise looks to this game.
Seems like everything fable should have become.
I will never ever buy a new Fable game. Been burned too many times. I hope this one satisfies me for awhile.Hopes Fable franchise looks to this game.

This game is getting 7/8s across the board. IGN giving it a 9 makes them look like fools as always. (this is the excuse you can use in case the game is bad)

Enlighten us all on what the difference between an 8 and a 9 is.

Damn. Some pretty high praise. Not sure if it'll live up to all of it, but it should be fun if the demo is anything to go by.

Yeah the combat is a step in the right direction. Slow it down, tone it down a bit, fix the camera, and it would be amazing. The really need to remove that flame from the staff you get in the demo, it's really annoying when you have it equipped.
I really wish SWTOR had combat like this. I'd like a Star Wars WRPG with combat similar to this game.
It's not trying to be like Dark Souls in terms of combat. It's going for something completely different. I still have no idea why people are comparing Dark Souls and Reckoning.
