Konami's TGS 2015 lineup is about as plentiful as you'd expect

Yeah guys, in case you hadn't noticed, Konami has been nothing but MGS and PES for a long while now. This is just further confirmation of that. Konami is dead to me.

The mobile market is a big place.

I expect you'll become quite familiar with those microtransactions and pachislot machines as you watch more franchises die.

Now go! Take the legend off life support.

Or, like a snake eating its own head, allow it to consume itself and disappear forever.

..., at least that way we'd all have closure.

Ouroboros.... the snake eating its own tail signifies eternal return and rebirth.... we are doomed to repeat the Konami cycle forever.

I hope Kojima will suddenly appear on stage and make a surprising announcement that the development of Silent Hills is continuing. At the exact same moment, P.T. will be back on PSN.

Fuck Konami

I think at the casino submit I went to, Konami had around 7 slot machines.
You can really tell where their priorities are at...

I'd really, REALLY want to know what the hell happened to that Konami from the PS2 era. No, really. They were one of the best softhouses in the world, and now... Man... They used to release so many awesome games in a short period of time and now they barely have 5 games to show in one of the biggest gaming events.

I remember when I had a SNES and Konami was one of my favorite developers, every game they released was really good:
  • Super Castlevania IV
  • Super Contra/Probotector
  • Parodius
  • The one of the Looney Toons (can´t remember the name but it was really fun, specially the football match)
  • Sunset Riders
  • TMNT: Turtles in Time
  • Axelay

It seems that they could tackle any genre and create an instant classic.

But now...

So sad that the company that owns great franchises like Suikoden, Silent Hill, and Castlevania isn't taking advantage of them.

If they truly want to stick to mobile and pachinko shit now, I hope they sell their IPs.

If Konami were making big bucks from their games consistently, they would still be making them now. You can't really blame them for following the money. That is their main function.

If they were better at running their game division, they wouldn't be in this mess they are now.

The irony is that it was their own damn fault, they released the MGS Collection around Call of Duty, they released about 3 Silent Hill games in the same month and anything that wasn't AAA from Konami you haven't heard of because they went out of their way to not advertise it.

Or as Jimquisition summarizes.

Well they themselves didn't do anything with all the IP's they have left to rot. If anyone's to blame, it's them. Reading the market hasn't been a strong point for Konami for a while from what I can see.

This is disappointing.
Konami made Tokimeki Memorial and Love Plus. I want to see those games continue :(

I mean they're making money with their mobile and gambling devices. No reason for them, in a business sense, to invest in AAA titles or even tertiary titles anymore.

There's plenty of reasons. Like 40+ million current gen console owners and many millions of pc players willing to spend $60 on a new game. Same reason nearly every other company is still making games for consoles and pc.

MGSV will be profitable, as would have Silent Hills. Unlike mobile though you can't just slapdash a game together for cheap and expect it to sell. Therein lies the likely problem for konami. Their work environment is not conducive to keeping talent much less grow talent, and now they lost one of the biggest names in the industry.

Ps making games for consoles does not have to be a $60 AAA affair either. Wish more companies would realize this. I would take a 2D modern Final Fantasy for $20-30 in a heartbeat. Also see Iga making a downloadable Castlevania on his own, that could have easily been done by Konami.
