KOTOR II: The Thread

It picks up on Dantooine. I'm still there. It's my first planet that I can choose from but damn I play like a snail. It takes me an hour to do anything. I have to look in every nook and cranny. I have to investigate each dead end. I have to analyze every piece of equipment. God help me. The station above Telos was slow story wise and I spent alot of time there.

A play experience form the station orbiting Telos to relate. (I think these are just side quest spoilers)
So I leave the Ithorian compound having cleaned up whatever their mess was and as soon as I shuttle out of that area where the compond is one of the Ithorians messages me and says the compond is under attack and the priest is being held hostage ... whatever. Now this is the point in the game after I just got done with the droid stealing some files from Czerka corp which means that I am the only member in my party (my protagonist, not the droid). The game did not preset me with a party screen to add the witch (as teh scoundrel refers to her) and the scoundrel guy so I completely forgot to re-add them after the droid quest. So I go back to the Ithroian compond and there are like 500 bazillion mercenaries and combat bots running around the place. I'm like WTF thinking how in the hell am I supposed to do this never thinking to add back my party members, duh! Long story short I wiped every single mercenary and bot in the place only having my character in the party, a jedi consular no less with force powers at this stage not developed at all.
Saying it was an awesome play experience would be understating it. Great game.

You know, I did the same fucking thing! :lol

Quick question but did anyone encounter an almost fatal bug while on Nar Shadaa? It happened when....
I was in the underground tunnels to the Exchange base. The game resumed with me gaining control of my main character and I killed all the enemies in the area before meeting that Exchange alien in the arena that results in his death and my character being captured by Goto. A few cutscenes occur after including one showing all the fallen bounty hunters in the tunnels and Kreia wandering around aimlessly before I resume control of my main character who's in the room with the workbench and Ventilation Controls. If I go to the arena, I can see Kreia and that wookie, Halbaar, fighting the bounty hunters. Sometimes they're there, sometimes they're not or already dead.

Apparently I wasn't supposed to resume control of my character after he get's KO'd but for some reason the game "bugged" out allowing it so and thus preventing me of progressing any further in the game. The only solution was to find an early save and redo the entire area which seemed to put the game back on the correct path.

Just curious if anyone else encountered this.

The only bug I encountered was on Nar Shadaa:

I'm going back to the Ebon Hawk when the Red Crescent or whoever the fuck they thought they were boarded it, and I fight my way back on board, and get to the room right down the hall from the cockpit. There's the leader of these idiots just standing there waiting for me to talk to him, and in the heat of the battle I accidentally targeted him and mashed the button when it was on dialogue. The screen went black, but I could still hear the battle going on in the background. I had to reset and load from my last save. Annoying but not life ending.

This game OWNS. I've finished it once as light side Jedi Guardian/Watchwoman Martha Stewart, and was planning on going back and playing dark side, but decided to do a middle of the roader/leaning light side Jedi by the name of Jeff Lebowski. They even had a head that kind of looked like him. I did this mainly
because if you play as a dude, you get the Handmaiden instead of the Disciple, and I also want to focus on turning as many party members into Jedi as possible, which I was only able to do with Disciple last time
.

My personal GOTY, fo sho.

One last funny note:
if you resolve the trade dispute between the two merchants on Nar Shadaa by helping the girl relocate, she gives you HK pacifism protocol, which will basically turn HK into a wuss. HILARIOUS.

Quick question:
anyone ever find out where the HK 50 droid factory was? Never did find it on the first play thru.

End boss question:

How the hell do I kill her after she summons the three lightsabers? They kill me in less than two turns, and the only opportunities I have to attack I have to heal/use a shield just to stay alive.

Im a bit stuck on the moon of onderon...spoilers ahead...

The second time through the moon where you have to chose three companions to go clear out the temple? I chose Atton, Mandalor and the engineer alien guy whose name escapes me, they breezed through the whole place but i got 0wned by the sith master and his two cronies, seems like mandalor & atton shoot get past their deflect skills and even with a shield the engineer lasts about 6 turns against 3 lightsabers, they were good enough to kill all the other jedi though :-/...any ideas? I might try using the blind jedi lady as leader instead shes kinda weak though, what combinations did you guys use?

p.s. Im so glad to be back at home playing KOTOR2

I used Visas, the Handmaiden, and Bao-Dur.

When you're low on health just quickly bail and hide behind a pilar to heal. She won't follow you. Also, if you can get the sabers seperated you can attack them one at a time. If you destroy all 3 she dies.

Exact same thing happened to me Sysgen. I didn't realize how badass it was until I was done cleaning those fuckers out all by myself.

Damn. Spent about 3 hours in Iziz figuring out what to do next (couldn't find who to talk to).

I did check out the swoop races though. My best time on the Onderran tracks was 37:17 :lol

Hah exact same team for me too and same problem
sorry I can't give any more advice then BUFF UP LIKE CRAZY right before you get the cutscene, get past the dialogue quickly andyou've got three pretty powerful characters that can take out one Sith guy pretty easily without dying (though you will take damage). Of course it helped that I made Mandalore a hardcore melle character and not the gunner that the game's auto level tries to make him into)

Alright, figured out an easy (and somewhat cheap) way of dealing with the end boss:

I just kept running from the lightsabers, and when I get some distance on them I used Force Storm. Repeat until win.

I can't say whether I enjoyed it more than KOTOR. Storywise it's far more interesting and the way you interact with characters is much better, though I thought they could've devoted a little more time to fleshing out the bad guys, especially Nihilus. I find I'm more eager to replay it than I was for KOTOR, knowing all the stuff I missed or things I can do differently. I completely missed out on the prestige classes; I figured it was a story-based event that would happen at a certain point but it never did (now I know how to trigger it).

Load times get to be a bitch, though. I didn't even bother with swoop racing because of the loads before and after every single race. They should've had some kind of menu that just let me race again immediately, compare times, etc... It was one of those little things they could've improved upon but didn't for whatever reason.

Another thing that let me down were the environments; they lack the coolness and character of KOTOR's. The only standout environment was mabye Nar Shaddaa, and even then only certain parts of it. That last planet and area was some of the ugliest shit ever.

Think you need to talk to Kreia to open up your prestige class (for me it was after my second planet, i think its level related though, 15 or so should do it).

I finished Dxun in the end, i went back to the work bench and just upped a few things and it was easy. On my last of the 4 main planets now.

Im really lovin the subtle Ally stories, KOTOR had them but they werent really fleshed out other than in long drawn out conversations but in KOTOR2 it's really worth talking to all your companions...

couple of questions for anyone who knows...

Does your allignment affect whether or not you can gain influence with someone? Im good and i cant get Malderon to talk about anything other than his initial conversations, same with Visas.

And is
HK worth the effort
?

Alright, I'm pissed off... WHEN WILL I GET OFF TELOS!?

Ugh... I don't hate the place, but gee, it's taking too long to move from that place. I'm 12 hours in and I just got
my ship shot down by Assassin Droids in the Artic Region of the planet.

I hope I don't have too long.

I got fed up with that and just blew up the terminal (its an option), worked for me.

Just got to the final level....
OMG Bastilla spoke....briefly, im in love all over again! :lol
As its 5am (i started the session at 8pm) think i'll leave the end for tomorrow.

Was it just me or
was the last level unfinished? I mean you don't get to make the choice that Kiera was blathering on about, and all the running around you did with the Remote was just what... ignored?

Ghost: I managed to turn Visas all good. I think it's just conversation choices. Mandalore, HK and GO-TO not at all.

I think my game is buggy or maybe i missed something...I was playing at 3am soo

late spoilers in the game

After I blew up the ship and defeated the Darth Nihilus. My game went in the following sequence...

Take off from the ship and land on Telos
Take off from telos
Go to Malachor V
Crash on Malachor V

What happen to my crew? Why did they decide to go to Malachor V? When I 'landed' on Malachor V I saw a cutscene with the two sith so i know why they went there but i dont remember them saying, "we should go to Malachor V!". And I wish they explained the sith lords more I didn't know anyting about Darth Nihilus and his fight was pretty easy..

It's not buggy, same thing happened to me. It's like they forgot to put in a few cutscenes or something. Really jarring since before that the plot was explained pretty thoroughly.

hah it was also really odd that they suddenly started calling the mask dude 'Darth Nihilus' all of a sudden. Took me a while to figure out who the hell they were talking about. All the backstory you get on him is through conversations with Visas and Kiera

To the above spoilers

Sounds the same as my experience, your crew are there, they are just scattered (just play on for a bit and you'll see)....no idea how that happened but it did. Didnt Kriea mention to atris or someone that it will all end on Malachor V? Carth mentioned it, but yeah there wasnt any "We need to get to malachor V" moment in my game either.

I agree on Nihilus, though i guess he's not very complex, he's just a monster consumed by the force.

Must admit im pretty let down by some portions of the game.

I played it so Nar Shadaar was the last planet i went to and it totally made me realise that it and Telos were the first two planets they made and everything else was severly cut back, Onderon(Dxun), Dantooine and Korriban (Korriban isnt even really worth mentioning as a planet) all feel like shadows of what they were meant to be. They arent BAD, at all. Infact 2 of the set plays on Dantooine and Korriban were probably my favourite moments of the whole game
Setting up the defences for the exchange attack on Dantooine and exploring the cave on Korriban
but they dont feel finished, and when you compare it to Nar Shadaar, wheres there's probably 15 hours worth of side quests and story elements to uncover, it feels almost like a different game. Guess thats the price we pay for a sequel within two years of the original.

To be honest it's totally worth it because this game fucking owns.

Overall I'd really recommend waiting for the PC version though as this game more bug testing and really needs extra content just to flesh it out.

Tried to start a new character, but I've quickly come to realize how shitty the first two planets are, Telos in particular. I can't even bring myself to keep going, it's the most boring, bland piece of crap world ever conceived. Citadel station is nothing but a grey, lifeless, anaesthetic hellhole of load times and shitty graphics; the cantina is tiny, crammed with NPCs and laggy as hell; Telos' surface is way too linear with no atmosphere at all. I always thought Taris was bad, but compared to Telos it's genius.

Why does it seem that the worst part of any Star Wars game where you play as a Jedi is always the part before you get a lightsaber? Why don't they get it through their goddamn skulls that when I'm roleplaying a Jedi I don't want to spend fifteen hours dicking around with a dumbass sword in the most boring environments imaginable? I want to be planet hopping with a lightsaber right off the fucking bat. Bitches!

You nailed it. One of the reasons I'm sure GS gave the game a 6 in graphics. Personally I would of given that level a 2.

I need some help. I'm finding myself continually owned by the three assassin bots awaiting you after your party crash lands in the snow. Any tips on defeating them?

The older woman has Destroy Droid power. Worked great. Without that, I kept getting owned. I like the combat a lot more in this installment; it's been fleshed out more. So far, the story is good. Not as predictable as the last game.

AM I THE ONLY PERSON WHO SAW THE HUGE "TWIST" IN THE FIRST GAME FROM MILES AWAY?

I always laugh when people claim to be shocked by the twist.

i didnt see it coming, sometimes I get them real early. I dont think its even remotely a stretch that people "claim" they didnt see it coming and are telling the truth.

I remember figuring out the 6th sense a half hour early, and I think that was just as hidden as the SWKOTR one. My guess is that most people didnt see that one coming either, most people are not looking to guess a hidden twist unless there aware there is one, which is why I didnt even try to guess at SWKOTR, I wasnt aware there was a twist in the story until it happened. Had I known I might have guessed it.

I started playing last night but with the new feats like finesse lightsaber im trying to figure out something, i hope someone can help.

normally, STR determines how strong and how often you hit an enemy with your lightsaber, correct? STR is retroactive, correct?

DEX is for saving throws and armor, aswell as range attacks but i wont bother with that.. Anyway, i iirc its retroactive except for the armor, which much like constitution, doesnt upgrade the hp per lvl you accumulated, it just adds the +bonus when you augment the stat. correct?

ok, so here's my idea, finesse lightsaber can switch to dex for chance of hitting. Lets say that for my guardian i put 18 in dex, sounds crazy but i would also get a massive AC boost as i level up, with finesse lightsaber it wouldnt be a problem to to hit targets and as long as my str would be around 12 it would be enough for early levels. So i could augment str when i can, since its retroactive my character would not suffer from a dmg penalty later on, while my AC on my character would be godly and i would never have problems hitting targets.

Its that a good way of thinking? Or did i get it all wrong?

Yeah that definitely sounds like a plan, Is Saber finesse a normal jedi power? i thought it was a Weapon master skill.

Im at the end and wishing my DEX was higher 'cause i cant avoid anything.

Yea, i restarted my character with that path and its working well so far, i rarely missed. I'll check the feedback logs to see the rolls though, just to check how it really works.

With modifiers, my character had a dex of like 30 at the end of the game. She went through everything like a cheese grater. Awesome to see.

28 hours in, on my way back to Telos....

Atton is the only member of my party who has become a Jedi in training, I take him on every mission with me, probably my favorite character.

I had Handmaiden, Visas and Mandalore go to the temple on Dxun, and even after that little conversation Handmaiden had with the Sith Master, she is still lacking any Force abilities. I've noticed that many have had a tough time with that battle against the three Sith. The way I finished it is pretty funny, and sad. I basically sacrificed Visas and Handmaiden, hoping they'd get in a few hits while Mandalore sat back and flung thermal detonators in at the Sith and my two comrades. Once Visas and Handmaiden died, I ran around that rectangular barrier with the three Sith chasing me, with me shooting at one of them whenever I was far enough away to not get whacked. It eventually worked, heh heh heh.

Kreia just wiped out the remaining members of the Council and now she has brainwashed Atris...
this game is so amazing, the only downside is that I'm sure it's coming to an end.

Definately game of the year in my eyes.

I did the same thing!
It was Mira, Visas, and Mandalore though. Mira got killed right away, and Visas took a bit of HP off. I ran with Mandalore to the back, and only one of the dark jedi followed me. I got to basically the beginning of the tomb, and my teammates respawned next to me. So I healed up and killed the Jedi Master and the other dark jedi knigh
t.

I read that other spoiler though, and now I'm mad at myself.

I can't get Handmaiden to carry a fucking lightsaber.

The Jedi training is part of the conversation tree not anything to do with that mission.....

no new spoilers to anyone who read the ones above:

I took Atton to the temple and got Handmaiden trained as a jedi, when you have enough influence she asks you to train her as a jedi. I think it's one or the other though.

I haven't been able to get past that... I should have taken her to the temple, then?

I am VERY impressed with the game so far. I'm 30.5 hours into it and it's incredible.

After hour 18, I couldn't let go of the controller. The plot, gameplay, and most importantly, amazing dialogue just kept me glued to it.

Definitely the best RPG this year.

Light Side Guardian/Weapon Master for me, my strenght was at 30 and I was doing MAJOR damage every hit especially since I kept on getting the weapon specialisation feats. I also had a lot of hitpoints, but I did get hit a lot (low Dex).

AniHawk said:

I didnt take her. Have you completed her "training" conversations? (the ones where you have to fight her) then you need to ask her to put some clothes on (seems wrong i know :D ) which will lead into a conversation about her mother, that'll lead you onto the jedi stuff....you might need to talk to Kreia about her at some point aswell.

Yeah, we talked about her mom. I think I will go back to Kreia and ask her some stuff. Thanks.

DAMNIT!

I'm on Malachor V. I'm guessing I can't go back and do sidequests... which sucks (or advance character stories- though I did get Atton's and he's a Jedi Sentinel).

I saw the Great Storm Beast running towards me from the distance. "All right, I can take it. Just need to get some armor and stimulants re-" *WHUMP"

*Your party is dead load from last save...*

BAH! How can I take this fucker down? I'm level 23 at the moment (but I haven't levelled to 25 which is where I could be.

I love the dialogue choices in the game.

*Saving Queen Talia*
Tobin: I'm surprised you made it this far.
Exile: You'll find I'm full of suprises.

Unfortunately that's the only one I can think of at the moment. Not that great of an example.

Those storm beasts pissed me off too, seems they are very weak willed though, so try using Beast trick (im a weapon master with piss poor wisdom and charisma but i still managed to trick them most of the time) Other jedi powers would probably work quite well too. I wouldnt recommend sneaking past, for reasons which will become clear later.

Do you know if there's
any chance of going back to other planets? Game kinda fucks the player over once they get to the Enclave. It's the point of no return, and I didn't even get a damn warning.

Was kinda nice seeing Carth and Bastilla again. Just leaves Mission, Zaalbar, Jolee, and Juhani missing. I like KOTOR II's characters a lot more than the last game's, but getting them to reveal their past is more tedious (I don't like having Bao-Dur in my party). Voice acting is excellent all-around, though. I like how Brianna/Handmaiden, Visas, and Mira actually sound like people, instead of how most women do in RPGs (Yuna, Prier, Rikku, off the top of my head), and how Kreia sounds like an old woman rather than some stereotype.

Don't like the bugs though- except for the one that allowed me to win races faster.

Don't think you can go back, sorry, dont you have an early save or something?

How do you do the swoop race exploit? I read it was press start and quit at a point where your swoop would drift over a boost, but i did that and i kept getting told i'd need to complete the track to register a time :-/

Bah. Well, I'm not gonna do it on dark side, and I DON'T want to redo everything all over again. So sidequests'll be left unplayed.

I only got it once, it was on the second best track on Onderon. I hit something at top speed, so I decided to quit. When I got back to the main screen, the guy told me that I had beat the high score. Had a time of 37:17. My best real time was 42:02.

Top Bottom
