Same thing with Sonic. Its not like Sonic recently had a good track of good games (most of recent ones range from mediocre to bad). But the number of games are bigger and they are still influenced by its popularity thanks to the movies and Mania.
Also, Virtua Fighter has sold quite a lot itself (more than Persona) yet it's not up there with Sonic, Persona and Yakuza, instead replaced with fist of the north star.... Why even put it in the sales data if you're gonna keep shafting it???
Fuck I hope not. Like a Dragon is just an infinitely better series than Persona. I think you're probably right though. People love games about teenagers for some reason.

This is clearly for shareholders, and as such it's going to showcase IP with ongoing development and revenue potential. Virtua Fighter was a big seller, but it is largely considered a legacy title now.
So 1.66 billion units sold constitutes as left behind? I don't know, I think it's still a very profitable IP, but I love that Sega has diversified their portfolio a bit. They've got something for everyone these days it seems, outside of a big multiplayer gaas title.
Weren't they doing that Hyenas game that was canceled? All that money wasted probably put them off the idea for a bit.
Not with Tekken 8 on the horizon. This chart if anything shows that Sega needs to open their IP vault, they only have 3 major sellers.
Look at Capcom's diversity of franchises, they have Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and are now reviving Dragon's Dogma. As well as a new IP in Pragmata coming out soon.
