Left 4 Dead 2 |OT| The South Rises Again

Tried Realism last night, on Normal, Swamp Fever, it was fun. I think most of my time will be spent playing Advanced Realism. It makes you stay together all the time and really focused.
The campaign wasn't as great as the rest, but it also had its moments, and I really liked the Finale place.

Also, from just one match of Versus, on Dark Carnival... Didn't really enjoy the Charger, the Jockey was kinda fun and Spitter seems useful in a lot of situations.

Still have 2 campaigns to finish, hopefully will do them tonight, and then see if I can join you guys for Expert/Advanced Realism.

I had weird hard crashes with no error message today, but a workaround on the steampowered forums seems to have addressed them. Still, very worrying. And I still get weird, inexplicable framerate drops even with different combinations of v-sync/multicore enabled or not.

Otherwise, I love this game, even with a hangover.

Oh, and yes, stats seem weird, and aren't showing achievements I got on release day.

What was the work around? I only found old threads when I searched. And I fixed my problems by deleting Steam and reinstalling from scratch. But I'd like to know the exact fix if it returns.

Beat Dead Center on Normal (playing with two new people to the games) and Dark Carnival on Advanced (poor fallengorn!) last night. Only campaign I have not even touched is Swamp Fever. Need to alleviate that tonight!

Lost the melee only achievement when I shot the pistol after being incapped. raaaaaaaaaage

Lag is pretty horrendous on the 360. I actually stopped playing last night and switched to MW2 because of it. It's funny that so many people whine for dedicated servers, and the one console game that really uses them runs like shit online. P2P for life!

Has anybody been able to install the game to the hard drive on 360? I went to do that last night and the option simply wasn't there (only the "play game" option showed up).

yeah, in the PC demo you could turn push to talk off.

dunno why they changed it. voice worked just fine in L4D1. id just mute myself if i didnt want people to hear my bitching.
I've set it to open mic! It's right there under sound options.

Ellies is so cool, man :D

My total playtime is 9hrs, but recent playtime is 0 hours, and I have no stats or achievements. Maybe the stats server is down.

EDIT achievements are still unlocked in game

That was me :)

The first chapter went okay, but the second one where you had to go to the gas station went pretty horribly. The first few tries we managed to startle almost every witch that was remotely on our path. I also liked the part when we finally reached the elevator, but everyone was in the red and noone had any guns :p And when we went back there were hardly any medkits available, so that was also pretty tense. Still lots of fun. I especially liked chapter 4, I managed to reach the saferoom with just 1 hp thorughout the entire chapter. But when I was like 3 steps away, Itsinmyveins shot and killed me even though nothing else was around :lol

Dunno why it it went back to expert each new chapter. I think the orignal idea was to play it on normal (or advanced at best), but we started on expert somehow.

As for the stats erasing, it doesn't actually erase your stats, you just can't see them sometimes.

aaah.. yep fun times. we did improve. Don't think we suck too much, I need to learn the maps as do you guys I guess since we missed ALL the guns and ammo before the elevator. That was soo funny, the horde comes up right beside the elevator and we were all guarding the stairs, I had a samurai sword and 1 health :lol

Nice to play with euros... I think you me and veins all had <40 pings when I checked. That American dude that seemed to know stuff but kept getting incapped anyway had ~280 or something. Not really sure how ping affects this game though since we aren't trying to kill each other.

Not sure I added you as a friend but we should play again.

Just wondering, as anyone experienced a bug where you try to use your pills then pick up adrenaline right after but then the pills don't heal you? Obviously it's fixed by just waiting a second, but in a zombie apocalypse every second counts!

Just played a game of Hard Rain versus, and on the 4th map in the spawn room there's a corner with some boxes and a table. I jumped in between them and was insta-killed.

1 HIT KO'D BY A BOX, WTF!

Friends had to play without me, but they still managed to make it to the end.

Fired this up last night on the 360 with low expectations and ended up being blown away. I'm sure its been mentioned tons in this thread but Left 4 Dead 1 feels like a tech demo compared to Left 4 Dead 2. There was more variety in the first 2 chapters of the first campaign then the entire game of Left 4 Dead 1. Kudos to Valve.

I don't really 'get' vs mode yet. I love being infected, but being survivor feels impossible. usually get MOBBED.

oh yeah fuck the jockey. I hate that little shit.

Maybe give it a second at the install screen? I know in the past that wouldn't show up on some games until I waited a good 20 seconds or so. As for L4D2, It let me install the game just fine.

Looks like at least l4d2 script files have references to l4d1 campaigns so either they intend or intended to port them over

Oh, we got the "don't spook any of the witches" thing for it, and you can get it if you just die.
We didn't scare any until level 3, and one got spooked, and we died a little after, so we tried level 3 again (I figured it wouldn't count), but we didn't spook any witches the next try and still got it, if that helps folks that want to get that achieve.

Doesn't the description say to get through the sugar mill without "killing" any witches? I was wondering if that meant you could spook them as much as you want.

I love this game, as I loved the first one, but I'm just baffled at how the NPCs can be so much worse.

I've seen the AI fail to kill a jockey that was humping me, despite standing right next to me and following me around while the jockey rode me. They took a couple of pot shots at him, but I went from full health to incapped on normal mode which takes quite a while. Then as soon as the jockey hopped off, they blasted him. Seen this happen twice.

Last night I was playing random groups trying to beat the Parish finale finally, and we only had 3 people most of the time. The NPC must've walked off the edge of the bridge 4 or 5 times over the course of 15 minutes, for no damn reason.

I don't think my friends and I will be able to play too many casual games on a higher difficulty due to how bad the AI is. I enjoy a good 2-man run every now and then, but I can see some of these stages being more frustrating than the last game. I don't even want to think about trying survival mode with NPCs. If you can't field a full 4 person team, then I don't think you can enjoy this game as much as the last one, unless you play on normal. That's a shame.

No, but last night a teammate healed me, and when I looked a few seconds later my life was still in the red. His healthpack was consumed. Nobody got healed. :(

And I didn't make it on the Swamp Fever finale. Got zapped back to life and was soon swarmed by the final mob.

Thank god I made through Hard Rain. It was funny seeing notsol337 get charged off the dock during one of the runs. At first I was, "Haha, stupid Charger!" then I saw his name pop-up before he sank. :lol

Tonight, the Parish!!

Hmm, more stat server anomalies.

Previous VS w/l: 6 wins/1 lose

Then I played 2 VS matches, both of which my team won

Current VS w/l: 7 wins/2 lose

This bug is still there? I remember someone dying by jumping on a table in L4D1 and I died once by stepping onto a steel beam left over from the gas station explosion in NM3. Dangerous times.

This is why I only play with friends. And gaffers I guess, since I assume that you guys are better human beings than the average PUG.

Don't assume too much. Although, I think the worst I typically see GAFfers do is homoerotic furry (scaly?) spray porn. :lol Although, I'm not TOTALLY sure that was a GAF guy...could have been though.

Side note, I saw that guy making the jab at 360 dedicated servers...is anyone having success with dedicated servers on teh 360? Maybe Valve just didn't get many of them running. Are 360 local servers at least working with low pings?

Isn't it Coach that is obsessed with the Midnight Riders? It says Ellis in there. Pretty sure he is obsessed with stock car racing and it's legends.

Ellis and Coach both like em.

They also both like the stock car guy.

Played my first Scavenge games and VS last night. First time playing all through the Parish as well. Managed to survive and win at the finale. Lived with 1hp...we did lose one guy though. =\

I thought I would enjoy playing the Charger and Spitter most. And while they are great, the Jockey is much, much more fun. I managed to incap Coach just before dropping down onto a lower platform of the bridge..and then jump down and run someone off the ledge to win the round...it was amazing.

VS is just ten times more chaotic, unpredictable, and fun than the first game.

The internet has visually desenseatized me. I've looked into the eye of Goatse and seen my own soul. As Nietzsche said, to look into goatse is to become goatse.

No, my problem is more with people who either take the game too seriously (omg you didn't melee the hunter in midair noob *ban*) or greif constantly for their own amusement (lol car alarm so fresh har har restart level). As long as people are along for some fun, it's all good, but getting that kind of attitude out of PUGs can be very hit or miss.

It's supposed to feel impossible. It's supposed to be satisfying to actually make it to the end. That's why you get points for how far you made it.

On 360 I get a good connection nearly every time I pick quick play, so i've started doing that.

If I go into a lobby it's like 50/50 the game is going to be laggy as hell.

Hopefully they'll iron out whatever is happening - the first game and the l4d2 demo ran great nearly 99% of the time no matter how I joined a game.

And yes I was able to install no problems, not sure what is causing that problem. I assume you have plenty of free space?

They're also the only two that are both from the south, I think. Rochell is a reporter from somewhere else and Nick is a gambler from somewhere else.

Played with all zombies spawning as Jimmy Gibbs Jr last night. They take 10 or more straight autoshotgun hits to the face and then die. Melee hits 1 shot them though. Also, they have the mudman effect when they hit you and can't be set on fire.

What's the mudman effect?

EDIT this missing stats nonsense is annoying. Sure, it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. But it's one of those features that if you're going to include it, you had better protect that data. It's a useless feature if data goes missing as often as it seems like it does.

The 360 servers work, but I almost always end up with a single red bar connection so everything is very jumpy. The first night I played through a campaign with 1 other friend and it started of in red but slowly worked up to 3 bars over the course of 4 hours. All other games/matches since have been red bar.

Yup, they're working just fine.

Can anyone confirm this for me?

In order to get the beat-this-campaign Achievement, do all of you have to survive? The first time I played Dark Carnival I was the only survivor; then it was two of the AI and no Achievement. I switched it to easy the next time and was extra careful (having the gnome, too :lol) and I finally got it when we all made it.

Was this an example of Achievement glitching or is it normal? I'm inclined to say normal, but I'm not sure.

I've also noticed a couple stats not increasing, like my defib uses :( I purposely killed Nick twice and Rochelle once to use them and they're still only at 1 use...or do they not count toward the allotment if you incap them yourself?

I haven't really played much of the second, but for the first game you have to make it onto the rescue vehicle to get the achievement. maybe it's glitched

My laptop ran the first one fine on medium, and System Requirements lab tells me I can run this one too. But I did not hit the recommended settings, but got past the minimum settings. The same as for L4D 1 btw...

Specs:

Intel Core Duo 2 CPU T6400@ 2Ghz
4GB RAM
NVidia GeForce 8600M GS

I should be fine right?

I have the same thing except dual 2.5GHz processors and it runs very well (at least the demo did, my laptop HDD died on monday so I haven't played the full game yet on PC), so I think you're good.

I think so. Before all my tries, I couldn't do Dark Carnival on my own and someone asked if I needed help. I joined his room (from the place I was having problems with), beat it, but didn't get it.

You'll get better as you play, anyway. Are you on 360? I don't mind skill level (I actually prefer to avoid people that are too good and take the fun away--some of the time).

We finally got to play l4d2 yesterday and it delivered in every possible way. I was playing on my 3 yr old laptop and it ran without a problem, my wife had the gaming pc and her screen looked amazing. A friend of ours that had never played any type of l4d before joined us and he loved the game even more than we did.

We started Dead Center on advanced and got wiped in 10 mins, so we knocked it down to normal. I think there have been enough posts around praising how much l4d2 is so much better in comparison to 1 so i won't repeat the praise, but i agree with those sentiments. The meele weapons were a surprise, they were more fun than i would have imagined.

Our team was always at the edge, barely surviving, consistently running out of ammo, scavenging for any health packs or pipe bombs and we loved it. At the finale, Paddy Pad Pad joined us and if it wasn't for him, we'd would have never passed that section last night. Pad threw all those gas cans to the bottom floor and we managed to pick them up and fill up the car. Think most of us were near death's door or leaning on it when we passed it. What an epic night.

Tonight or tomorrow im trying the 360 version, can't wait to repeat this all over again. If you see coverly on steam or on the 360 playing, feel free to jump in. just remember, we're not that good so have some patience with us!

Allright. Thanks, man.

I do remember some serious framedrops in the Dead Air Finale though... I hope I will get none of that in L4D2.

The demo is gone now right?
