Let's pretend that you have $20bn in the bank. What cancelled video game or dead IP are you reviving?

Omg I forgot about that game, it was SO good back in the days
It released almost the same time Ocarina of Time did. It was mind-blowing. I don't quite understand, why it didn't leave an impression on the gaming culture.

P.S. Its sound effects (and death animations) live in my head rent free.

Shenmue 4?
I'm not saying no, but I'd love to hear how you'd use the funding.

Like team that would do it, who would produce, marketing budget etc

20 BILLION, thats a lot of money

I would Spend 7 billion to buy Square Enix (and by I, I mean Sony lol)
I would Spend another 10 billion buying Capcom

Remake Parasite Eve I & II (allow it to be made in the RE Engine and a joint collaboration between them and the original Parasite Eve team)

Make The Getaway 3 and bring in as many ex-Rockstar devs as we could convince to come on board lol

Virtua Tennis

Outrun

Skies of Arcadia

Shining Force

Thunder Force

Phantasy Star (as a single player turn-based combat RPG)

Bring back FEAR with an emphasis and replicating the gameplay and effects from the first game. Bring back single player KOTOR games with the same sense of fun the first game had by playing an asshole (great dialogue choices) or good guy and also have a good story. Bring back Dragon Age before it became a game for woke virtue signaling, crap color schemes, and hit or miss gameplay.

Basically, all these game series drifted from what made them great. They need to get back to their roots.

A new Rumble Roses game. Maybe have the WWF No Mercy devs work on the gameplay assuming Yukes arent up for the task. Have a competent AAA japanese studio co-dev to help with the visuals. Make it sexy, no toned down for modern audiences nonsense.

I played drakan the ancient gates in my early 20s on ps2 and I absolutely loved it. No one else I knew back then ever played it, a shame

The original Metal Gear Rising, and a WW2-focused Metal Gear game about The Boss.

…and Splinter Cell. Because we all know that shit is dead.

-Beyond Good & Evil 2
(2008 Original Concept)
-Mega Man Legends 3
-Parasite Eve
-Tenchu
-American McGee's Alice Asylum
-Dark Cloud 3 or Rogue Galaxy 2
-Brave Fencer Musashi
-Bloody Roar
-Dead or Alive
-Fatal Frame
-Shadow Hearts
-Legend of Dragoon
-Maken X
-Hellnight
-Fear Effect
-Soul Sacrifice
-Gravity Rush
-Port Vanillaware's catalogue to Steam

Tough choice.

I'd probably save it in case Nintendo wants to sue me for breathing as they invented the technique, apparently.

If I had money left, I'd go Silent Hills as a cancelled game. For dead IPs - Condemned, The Darkness, Chrono Trigger, Desert / Jungle Strike, Discworld, Wiz n Liz + Dizzy (for nostalgia with family), probably a ton more, but they popped into my head first.

With $20 BLN in the bank I'm going to reassemble the team, no matter the cost.

Step 1. Hire some eggheads to build a time machine and go back to the year 2000.

Step 2. Buy Black Isle.

Step 3. Buy Bioware.

Step 4. Buy Bethesda.

Step 5. Let the madlads create whatever they fancy without the pressure of going mainstream.

Step 6. Watch it all crumble as I have no idea how to manage teams of developers.

I would revive wing commander.
Beat me to it.

But actual Wing Commander & Privateer. I wouldn't try to reinvent the wheel like the abomination that is Star Citizen.

Just straight-up single-player space combat missions with a cinematic story between missions.

Privateer would obviously be more open-universe, but I think you get my drift.

It's a travesty that what Elite and Privateer started never got fully realised. Freespace was too arcade-y and Elite Dangerous was too unfocused. Both fun in their own way, but not bullseye IMO.

Had such high hopes for Star Citizen when the project was announced. But that shit has bloated into fucking oblivion. 😑

Have had my eyes on the X series, but God those menus have filtered me several times already.

Go full megalomaniac and start fresh to build the studio and IP I want all under the control of one visionary. No shareholders, no design by committee and pitch what you got auction style for the best to rise or fall under my gavel of approval or denial. One IP, 10 genres and all connected.

I don't think a lot of people consider the enormity of 20B dollars. With that money you could fund the full development of 10 GTA6.

I was going to go with "if money wasn't an object" but that seems like it'd give people too much freedom to do something dumb like revive Mario 128 or "buy Microsoft lol". But also wanted some realistic responses like "I'd buy Capcom so I could bring back Dino Crisis".

What I actually got was people either not understanding the thought exercise, or thinking outside the box like EDMIX EDMIX buying BOTH Capcom and S-E to make a Parasite Eve game in the RE engine.

I would first take on Shenmue. I'd take the first three games, remake them and finish the story. All in one go.

Also I'd like to remake Panzer Dragoon Saga using the most modern tech.

Guess I'll drag these old things out again:

And a while I know it's not a dead/cancelled IP, to me it might as well be, so I'd say a complete redo of Spidey 2. With "Back In Time"; where you'd be able to use the power of the SSD to rapidly switch in place -- even mid-swing -- between modern day New York, a late 1930s Noir New York and a futuristic New York with a time travelling Gizmo on your suit/wrist.

TitanFall 3 (with a proper campaign and multiplayer), Days Gone 2, Killzone.

I'd also take the motion controls from PSVR2 and have a new Sports Champions game and a new Tumble game.

A Matrix game: Enter The Matrix & Path Of Neo had some cool stuff but were quite flawed. Feel like it'd be great property for a modern redo.

Finally, guess I can add this on a technicality as it did have a game: The Fifth Element with a mixture of small open world areas with hubs, some wide linear and pure linear stuff. Whenever I see this scene I always think how cool that environment would be in a game:

Always dreamt of games with big rich, densely packed future cities that truly felt like they're living and breathing, but everything now is just so barren. Most open world stuff is just fields and bushes.

I always felt that DuckTales 2 deserved a shiny new remaster like the original got.

If not, I'd also commit unspeakable atrocities for Megaman Legends 3. It's one of the few cancellations that bothered me the most.

Tenchu
Shinobido
Earthbound
Paper Mario (TTYD is a remaster, every new game new was shit)
Vagrant Story
Final Fantasy Tactics (well, we're waiting.gif)
Megaman X
Actraiser (ugly remaster doesn't count)
Castlevania (let's be honest, we all considered it dead, despite the multiple collecton ports, hence reinforcing my points above)
Wario Land (Well DK Bananza seems to fit the style)
Jet Force Gemini
Ogre Battle
Secret Of Evermore (one of the first OST from Jeremy Soule)
Demon's Crest
Dino Crisis
DarkStalkers
Clock Tower
Terra Phantastica
Alundra

Use that money to attract actual top talent around the industry and start my own studio and make an original ip. Start with a AA title and then work from there.

Full cinematic cut scenes, directed by James Cameron, all star cast, and to get the game it only comes bundled with this.....

ok, ok, if you have Game Pass Ultimate you can play it on this:

James Cameron. At least pick someone that would do a good job.

I'd buy the Bloodborne IP from sony, I'd hire bluepoint to make the remake and sequels while letting fans go back to making their own fan games about it

Deus Ex

I'd give Mankind Divided the sequel that got cut and I'd have it lead directly into my studio's next game, which is a full blown remake of the original Deus Ex with all the modern bells and whistles.

#KaburAjaDulu

On serious notes, taking over SquareEnix and give Xenogears the FF7 remake/rebirth treatment. 3 games, each with 100+ hours gameplay, Katoki Hajime as the mech designer, cross save to the sequel, full voiced, full 3D, hire the philharmonic orchestra to do the music with Hans fuckin' Zimmer as the maestro. Right-leaning people will be bitching about the pseudo-religion tone, but I will push the tone to the limit, only to break it down in the third game.

Taking over Cloud Imperium Games, kicking Chris Robert down the ladder as game director or some project structure position, and giving him deadline to finish Star Citizen without any more of those crowdfunding milestone.

A proper Burnout Revenge remake keeping the gameplay intact, state of the art graphics and the same soundtrack

The rest of the money i would throw at Miyazaki for him to make his dream game about feet and swamps, or whatever he's into these days

BloodRayne except much more polished and really good combat. Would also have lots of outfits, more than Stellar Blade!
