Let's pretend that you have $20bn in the bank. What cancelled video game or dead IP are you reviving?

ARMS 2 with an open world story mode and a hero shooter mode

With $20bn I'm not working another day in my life.

But if I absolutely had to. Ubisoft's Tom Clancy's Endwar.

A proper sequel to Actraiser with more in-depth god sim options and maybe turn the sidescrolling parts into more of a metroidvania instead of arcadey hack and slash platforming, with skill trees and new equipment/weapons.

Vagrant story remaster
Vagrant story ue5 remake
Vagrant story sequel.
Lock in 3 different studios.
One will be good, and I'll have barely made a dent in the 20bn.

Pay my bills first then have a discussion with Sony / Square on what the fuck we have to do to make Xenogears / Legend Of Dragoon Remakes.

I'd finance a proper Berserk game and a Vampire Hunter D game.

With that much I'd also do Skies of Arcadia 2 and a full remake of Xenogears.

Then my work would be done.

Shenmue 4 and 5
Xenogears Remake and Sequel
Splinter Cell 4
Ridge Racer 8
Skies of Arcadia 2
Lost Odyssey Remake and Sequel
Killer Instinct

I'd genuinely reach out to the publishers of these IP if I was loaded.

Anachronox

Privateer (with Clive Owen returning)

Daggerfall (a direct sequel with at least the same scope and interactivity, but better graphics)

Glider Pro

Hell Cab

I can't be too specific cause I'm not familiar with the plethora of live service games. But I was resurrect as many dead 3D fantasy RPG live service games as single player offline experiences. Every single fantasy live service game looks wonderful, I just won't touch them with a ten foot pole cause of the pay-to-win mechanics. It's clear there's a lot of care put into their art style and gameplay development and for them to be utterly deleted from reality is a crime.

As an investor, why do I want to put my $20B in the Bank? niche ips won't justify the $20B either. Idk, reviving older servers for online only games, there are many of them and they deserve a second chance.

#1 (dream project) would be a huge 2d Metroidvania Castlevania game starring Alucard again, with art done by VanillaWare and gameplay/design by the Deadcells team.

For games that were in the works but never finished development, top two would be Last of Us Factions stand alone Multiplayer game and Star Wars 1313.

Other projects would be:
Starcraft 3
Left 4 Dead 3
Proper complete MGSV
BloodBourne 2
New Killzone
New Big budget Panzer Dragoon game

A proper Rez sequel, maybe a 3rd or 4th game too.

I'd probably pay capcom to make a mega man legends 3 but with the old mega man character. I'd revive the shadow hearts series, jade cocoon, and wild arms. I think a new rhapsody game would be nice. I think that's pretty much it. I'm pretty sure we'll get a devil may cry game soon and Onimusha is getting a new game. Oh, I'd have a new magna carta game made. Boku no natsuyasumi is a game I always wanted to play so I'd try and have a new one made.

Does it have to be a game that was cancelled? I'd rather reform a dead studio with all the original creatives.

Pull them out of their retirement homes if we have to.

  • Put Free Radical back together with free rein, not just to make a timesplitters.
  • Put Volition (old Volition) back together and get a real Saints Row or Red Faction going.
  • Put Pandemic back together and let them make some AA open-world shenanigans game.
  • And finally, put Factor 5 back together and let them make a spiritual successor to the Battlefront game they were making.

But if it has to be a dead Franchise...

Warhawk, bring it back, Sony, you cowards.

Giving Read Dead Online some proper content, I feel for that playerbase. Sucks they abandoned it for GTA.
Me my Posse always hoped they'd take the property building apsect of the SP campaign (not literally the Song and Dance) and let you really exist in that world (they kind of did with the moonshine update but it was half baked), kind of like how GTAO expanded through properties.

It's proper sad they stopped supporting it, especially when the last couple of updates before they stopped were legitimately great.

i'll revive the first very Blood Omen Legacy of Kain, that is it still a masterpiece storytelling

or some new Riddick chapters

or revive RARE software house, or Starbreeze one

Some come to mind:

- Headhunt Shinta Nojiri and the original Rebellion team behind NeverDead to fund a sequel.
- Get in touch with 110 Industries and Soleil to fund Wanted: Dead 2. Not sure if it fits the criteria. Something might be brewing at the studio.
- Possibly get in touch with Ziggurat to fund a full fledged 3D Bloodrayne 3.
- Get in touch with team behind WET and fund the completion of WET: Double feature.

All budgets would be calculated and allocated within a AA range and nothing excessively gargantuan like 150~500+ mil.

Watchdogs.

I'd bring this game back from the abyss that Ubi has thrown it in with its carelessness, soullessness, visionless malarky and make this the S-tier experience it deserves to be.

Unbelievable potential.
first game was the goat, second and legion didnt had the same atmosphere, they just looked like fortnite GTA with hacking, absolutely no soul.

Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines 2 to be handed over to some talented devs.

A revival of stealth & immersive sim genres - new Deus Ex, new Thief, new Dishonored or Splinter Cell if their publishers would be willing to part with the IP's.

And maybe Project Gotham Racing or some other racing series successor.

I'm going to be "that guy" but no body has money in the bank, only the bank. When you put money in the bank, you are loaning the bank and they legally own it.

That said, I'd revive most of Sega including their hardware business.

I'm resurrecting Banjo-Kazooie with that fuckin money
Good one. Expanding on that a bit, I'd basically put the n64 era Rare team back together along with those IP. New Conker. New Banjo. New Jet Force Gemini, Blast Corps. Etc. They were on fire back then.

In Cold Blood from the original PlayStation. It tanked like a bastard, but it had something about it - something that I think you could really expand upon today.

for that budget you can definitely do a lot even if you're only restricted to spend on game development.

some that had already been mentioned such as

Deus Ex
Descent
Freespace
Vagrant Story

one that I had not seen anyone mentioned

Rage Of Asura

the game did some wonderful things right but also some very terrible executions in some areas. I think with better graphics, no load time, more action and less QTE, this can be another DMC/Bayonetta type of hit.
