I'm suspicious that a lot of these games are 2 hour "experiences"

I would love to hear of more fully fledged AAA VR games like Resident Evil 7.

Hmm let's see:

Bound
Gran Turismo Sport (AAA)
Here They Lie
Moto Racer 4 (AAA)
RIGS (AAA)
Rez Infinite
Volume: Coda
Wayward Sky
WRC 6 (AAA)
XING: The Land Beyond

These launch games are full fledged games with SP campaigns & some have multiplayer modes too.

I haven't tried VR yet but I don't think I'd be able to last a whole evening gaming session with it on...I have the sharpshooter and couldn't last a few levels holding that thing up...it's more work than you think.

Playing to that, shorter experiences I can "complete" in one session suit me-I'm not a fan of putting 30mins into a 30hr game and loved finishing Limbo and Journey in one go.

Resident Evil 7 is what sold me on PSVR. That is the style of game I want. First person, single player, enthralling and immersive experiences. Farpoint looks interesting too but I heard the dev say its only around 4 hours. What "Full, meaty" single player games are out there that are coming to this thing?

As far as I can see that site just spits out mp4s for a vr compatible media player to read, right? If that's the case shouldn't it work with PSVR?

The question is does psvr's display only activate when approved titles or media launch? Not sure what the situation is for the media player re: 180/360 videos.

As far as I can see the headset should be usable pretty much during all use of the PS4, albeit in a cinematic environment.

And the media player will be updated to support any 360 content.

That's actually the one I'm the most concerned about, but they have a few months to tweak the control system.

Everything I'd heard about VR interface research and comfort has indicated that having a camera that can be controlled by both the head and the controller can cause nausea, and then RE7 went and did that and E3 has a pretty sizable segment of users that got motion sickness because of it. Hopefully they're taking E3 as a beta test and realize you can't have a game that makes people want to vomit within minutes of playing.

I agree, that's a big get for Sony, shame I don't have balls to play it like that XD

Ive been trying to think of how this can ultimately be combatted by devs/hardware, and Im not really sure. Are omni-directional treadmills ever going to be feasible? Could you just strap Moves to your legs and walk in place to simulate movement somewhat? Are future VR protagonists going to be wheelchair-bound? Is room-scale going to work for larger exploration games?

Can any devs chime in here?

They just need to incorporate VR comfort mode because majority of the people who were getting sick were trying to use both analog and the headset at the same time which caused major motion sickness that and the graphics + the frame drops didn't help. If they took a page from Robinson or The Gallery people wouldn't get sick, I hope they do.

Well sure I mean there are lots of things they COULD do. We were just discussing how it is now and how they have designed it up until now. I am sure...well I hope they are looking at everything.
One thing to always remembers is comfort mode in no way shape or form is anything close to a magic bullet. Its just one of many tools for a variety of issues all leading to the same result.

EDIT: NOTHING could be as bad as Fated lol

Is PCars still coming to PSVR? I remember it was one of the first being mooted ages ago...haven't heard anything in a while.

They are refusing to confirm anything at the moment, other than that they are listed as a PSVR developer.

I'm guessing not the original game, maybe for a sequel.

Pretty much this^

I'll update it if any info on Project Cars, War Thunder or Get Even is released, basically the only games that have a high possibility of not being supported anymore.

In other news, I didn't know PSVR could theoretically support room scale experiences

Interesting...

So right now I have a launch bundle pre-order and then games I'm thinking of grabbing are:

  • Robinson: The Journey
  • RIGS
  • How We Soar
  • Eagle Flight
  • Bound
  • Batman Arkham VR
  • Fairpoint

Are any of these titles not releasing on launch day?

Farpoint doesn't have a release date yet, other than that everything else are launch titles.

Thanks Sangetsu. Do you know if I will be required to block off additional space when I'm playing? Also any confirmed prices for any of the games on my list?

More than likely I'm going to buy all my PSVR games digitally but I even wonder if you can buy physical games.

The games you want are all seated and standing experiences you won't need any additional space from the required distance the camera needs at set up.

RIGS is set to be a full price launch game considering all the content it has at $59.99

The other games have no price yet.

And I'm only interested in like 3 of them.

VR Wishlist:
No Man's Sky
Skyrim (PS4)
Overwatch

Skyrim seems more and more likely because of it's re-release. No Man's Sky will probably get support for VR down the line. And Overwatch will most likely not get support because of possible performance issues and Blizzard won't be interested despite how cool it would be.

Out of all the games in the OP you just picked 3 random games that don't have PSVR support?

Where do you find these things? xD

I run a PSVR news account on social media. It's just a hobby and it's only small, but I'm constantly scouring around for stuff. Twitter is great for finding info straight from the developers. If I find anything that's relevant, I throw it straight on here. I think this thread is a valuable resource so I'm happy to give anything I can back to GAF.

What about the theather mode? Didn't SIE said that instead of having that virtual room projection-thing, your PSVR would dipslay the game in front of your eyes?

Edit: Think I misunderstood, yes PSVR will have a Virtual Room Theater function to display normal non-PSVR games and media.

I actually looked at the store page recently and it doesn't say anything about that now.
It did when I bought it at release though... it was actually one of the reasons I bought the game. Hope they aren't going back on that.

PSVR has no...errrmm...hang on.

PSVR launch line-up are all tech-demos!

Yeah, that's the line to take given that the 'But there are no games for VR' line doesn't really apply...

I'm not expecting good things from RE7 it wasn't made from the ground up for VR in mind so I expect it's half ass done and seems like people that did play it for long periods made them feel really sick. Shame too since that would have helped make a choice about getting the PSVR.
