I've never heard of HAIM. What song of theirs should I listen to?
Falling, Forever, Don't Save Me, and The Wire. Additionally Falling (Duke Dumont remix) and Forever (Lindstrom remix) for a more dancey take on their songs. There are a few songs they have on the Forever EP.

I would say so. Pop music isn't really something I listen to, but even something like Applause which while grossly egotistical and indulgent in theme and basically emblematic of a kind of creative stagnation in her greater career, is still way more interesting and has a more substantial affective energy than the other stuff on the charts right now. So her actual creative peak was pretty interesting for the particular niche within pop music that she happens to be in, I wouldn't really say much more than that. She isn't an example that transcends their genre or becomes something greater (she's no Kate Bush), but she does fine in her niche.
Stylistically, I'm not sure if you can really say there's anything substantial to her behind the wigs and masks and pretentiousness, and that's fine. It's authentic in the sense that she seems to love what she does. I wouldn't claim she's some artiste but she succeeds just in being more interesting than her peers. I'm by no means a critic of pop music though, I don't have the credentials for that.
That's exactly why she gets so much attention. Her songs are pretty much like every other pop song, some just a tinge catchier than the others.

Really? I swear their songs are basically interchangeable. Whatever song it is that Miley Cyrus "performed" before the whole twerking thing on that show could have easily been a Lady Gaga song to me.

Yeah, this is how I see it too.
Their voices and the direction of their music are very different. I'm not saying that one is better or more "special" than the other but there's a big difference.

I've been doing some exploring on Google Play lately and come across a couple of Spanish/Latin vocal groups I find interesting even though the majority of their songs I don't understand. You don't really see these groups inside the US. Or if they do exist then I haven't been exposed to them. I really dig their sound even though most people might find them "stuffy" or "Josh Grobian" because, in Il Divo's case, they some come from an opera background. Il Volo's members were born in mid 90s so they're about 20 but they're voices are HUGE.

The only example I can really think of where it was deemed inappropriate was with MidnightScott, and I think his stories were usually pretty gross and tasteless.
Awful is too strong of a word. It's a really common form of insensitivity that is marked more by ignorance than any desire to hurt anyone. That doesn't excuse it but considering the motives are usually pretty obscure I don't think it's reprehensible either. I say this having done it too much in the past. A person should seriously consider how they treat others, and standing someone up is fairly obnoxious considering how easy it is to cancel, but when you're a coward that is terrified of conflict it's easier to 'forget' than to do that, in a way. I don't know, I get it. I don't think it makes a person awful, but it does point to a particular weakness of character, I say that knowing that particular weakness of character in myself.
I got into a petty fight with my parents and just plain forgot about him.
So yeah, I am awful.

That's better than what I've done in the past, then (agreed to go on a date because I was too indecisive or too much of a coward to say no, deluded myself into thinking I'd go, only then to drop off the face of the earth at the last minute in a state of panic.) As long as you forgot and not 'forgot', because that's a pretty familiar coping method to me

I didn't mean in that harsh way. I just used the word "awful" because Trigger used it in the post I was replying to (and coincidentally I had used it minutes earlier in a facebook post, and my friend used it in his comment on my post, heh.)
Nobody is completely awful, or completely awesome. We all have some awful in us.

While you didn't want to deal with the reaction of the person you would be canceling on, so you just leave then hanging? You could have informed them that you wouldn't be showing up, and then "disappear"

But see, then I'm not plunging the problem into a black pit of unconsciousness in the attempt to purge myself of discord or preserve some illusion of 'harmony'
I know what you mean though, that's just it, cancelling is by every indication like the easiest thing in the world so there's really no excuse. But a person has to be willing to recognize how uncomfortable the realization of their discomfort makes them, if that makes any sense. There's like a deeper problem there of an unwillingness to recognize internal/external conflict, it's the same reason I'll make promises I won't keep, it's weird and hard to explain, it's like the immature and stupid form of selflessness. It's also ridiculous because conflict is ubiquitous in life, but like all compulsions it's irrational.
I don't do it anymore though, I just tell everyone I'm celibate and plan to become a monk so the stress of having to say if I like them or not is effectively removed
