i'm learning German Spanish in my spare time. mostly spanish and switching over to German when i had enough spanish. unsure if it's a good idea to mix words as i go lol.

A GAF member was / is writing a thesis about how learning two languages simultaneously is actually helpful in some aspects. The teenager polyglot I linked before mentions how similar-sounding words in different languages help him memorize them more easily. So hey, it if works for you go for it. I decided against picking up French or Romanian right now because I've been complacent with my weak English listening and toddler-level Japanese for far too long, and I want to fix those first. But tons of language learners on /r/languagelearning study several languages simultaneously, so yeah.
Also, I'm always willing to help with Spanish! I'm a regular at /r/Spanish, it's pretty active and helpful. Unlike /r/Romanian which is basically dead, lol.

i got most of the basic words down. but when it comes to he/she/it/they/etc i probably get confused and also tenses. and german has masculine, feminine, and neuter so i'm just trying to find a way to remember what words to use and whatnot. but other than that. it's been super easy (well not so much as the speaking part lol)

I usually redownload it when I'm bored, use it for a couple of days, then delete. I've never met anyone from Grindr.
I always hear that phrase from Panti Bliss that it's "a neat, orwellian trick" when the oppressors accuse the oppressed as the real oppressors. Like when they say that it's unfair that they get called out when they use racist or homophobic language or when they go as far as to call it "censoring" their language. PC is not a form of oppression, it's more like an etiquette. Go right ahead with your plans. The pupils at school learn more than one language too (at least in the better schools) so it shouldn't be too hard to learn it on your own.

DMPrince's reason, that he "only used it to spot the gays or curious guys in the area. and see if i know them or spot them on the street" is pretty much the same reason I use it. I did end up meeting two people that were in the same year and school as me through it, but I'd never meet anybody from it that I didn't already previously know, and even then it was rather uncomfortable. Generally I go through a cycle of downloading it to see who I know, get frustrated with how getting any form of conversation out of people is akin to drawing blood from a stone, deleting it after a few weeks, and then redownloading a few weeks after. EDIT: My primary concern with it would always be pertaining to STDs honestly.

i hated learning a language in school. in elementary we had a spanish teacher but it was for like an hour. middle school i had a teacher who wasn't even spanish and one of those i rather be a geography teacher but i'm just a sub. we had 2 actual spanish teachers in high school but the kids were so bad they ended up leaving lol. so basically every year that i took spanish i basically was retaking the first year.
but i never got the chance to take a foreign language in college. oh well. probably for the best anyways. saves me money lol.

Ole Miss, 1996, Spanish 101: we're learning family and relationship vocabulary, and the teacher goes from student to student around the auditorium, asking us to use boyfriend/girlfriend/wife/husband in a sentence.
My sentence was "Estoy iendo a la playa con mi esposo." (Translation: "I am going to the beach with my husband.")
The teacher immediately corrects me, "Almost, but don't forget your gender suffix - 'mi esposa'." At this point, the students in my class (not knowing me well) are giggling, and I respond to the professor, "hmm.. no. I meant 'esposo' deliberately," with a wry smile on my face.
You could see the light bulb go off over the professor's head, and I could hear some of my classmates gasping behind me (an unabashed homosexual at Ole Miss?! shocking!). He began to laugh like a loon, saying (in Spanish), "AHH! I am soooo sorry! Yes! That's fantastic! Very good!"
The professor and I got along famously from thereon..

I use it, met a couple of friends off the app. The thirst on there is terrible though. In my profile I say only looking for friends but I still get the "show me your dick" "what are you looking for" type message :\

People might just have different definitions of what hooking up is. For some the exchange of nudes would count. For others they might not count it was truly hooking up if it doesn't end with penetrative sex.

I've tried a few times to meet new friends on Grindr (mostly paying attention to profiles that say they only want friends), but... rarely works out. They either lie about what they wanted and try to hook up with me once we meet up or they just block you randomly. Probably not the best avenue to meet new friends, anyways.
Pfft why would THAT make you delete it? Enough people have told you you look good for you not to let one person scare you off a service.

Maybe I'm just not "hip" or "with it" but what the fuck do some of you guys expect from an app called Grindr? The app's name, if I am not mistaken, invokes the sexually charged act of dry humping as a form of social dance colloquially known as grinding. I imagine the vast majority of the existing userbase would be using it for hookups, even if they say they aren't.

It was an easy way for me to slightly start coming out. I had limited to no exposure of gay culture, and for some reason I thought that would be a tiny baby stepping stone that I could do somewhat anonymously. In hindsight, it was kind of a terrible plan.
