They help me! I used to kind of feel bad while looking at them. Like, sure, I'm attracted to them, but it also made me look at myself negatively -- upset with the fact that I'd never look that good.

Now I've lost 30+ pounds, and I see it more as a potential goal for myself. Heck, even if I don't quite reach that high with my physical fitness, at least I feel a lot better than I used to!

Congrats on the progress Two years ago I made the same decision and got to a great weight and then last year fell into bad moments so I gained half of the weight that I had previously lost. I do feel better now, but I still need to mae excersice a routinary thing and be serious with it. Discipline.

I know what you mean. Skyrim completely took over me when it came out. Despite all its flaws, it's still one of a few games that sucked me in and didn't let go.

Anyone else really tired of people using Photoshop to exaggerate ideals of beauty? This thread got me thinking about it, and although Justin Bieber isn't my type, I'm not going to pretend that his 'before' picture isn't still good.

But they need to sell underwear, I understand why they (think they need to) do it, even if I wish they wouldn't.

But then on Tumblr I'll see photos on porn blogs of already super hot guys photoshopped to be more 'appealing' but to me is just more boring - blurring the skin to make it more uniform, removing body hair(!), morphing to exaggerate muscles/shoulder width, bulking up the package etc.

We're visual creatures, I know, but I guess I prefer my men au naturele. Et tu?

Even aside from those kinds of alterations not fitting my aesthetic preference, it's regrettable how much of an effect is has on our opinions of our bodies - aren't eating disorders and similar phenomena disproportionately higher in gay/bisexual men compared to the general male population?

It's a symptom of a society which stigmatises and sexualises the female body as a result of its past treatment as property and as a measure of control, so I guess any inverted society would be one in which men's civil liberties were historically nonexistent. Though as a plus, I guess male sexualisation would be more mainstream; though at the price of ridiculous beauty standards, industries dedicated to profiting from an institutionalised lack of self-esteem and probably the inability to vote.
