Lightning Returns: FINAL FANTASY XIII PC |OT| Light Eternal

Sometimes I would like to see a Venn diagram of popgaf and Lightning fans.

I may look into this game later on during a sale, but some of the costumes/armors look bad and I'm afraid the writing will just make it worse for me. It's weird how SE took Lightning from the first game and turned her into this.

Welp. Guess I gotta beat XIII PC and XIII-2 before playing this. Even though I beat them on PS3 already.

Whats the price? I played the ps3 demo when it released and waited for this version to finally release.

Held off for so long on getting this game, cause of the ps3 version's performance issues. Also not a huge fan of time shenanigans in games.
Recently built a new pc and FFXIII actually runs at 60fps so I'm not too worried about this game constantly switching between 30 and 60 fps every second like on my old pc.
Cautiously excited about Lightning dress-up simulator 2015.

Composed by Masashi Hamauzu, Naoshi Mizuta, and Mitsuto Suzuki. Hamauzu was the leader composer for XIII and XIII-2, and Mizuta and Suzuki previously composed music for XIII-2. Musicians who had previously worked with the composers on XIII-2 and The 3rd Birthday worked on the project in Japan, while the main soundtrack was performed by and recorded in Boston by Falk’s gang the Video Game Orchestra, conducted by Shota Nakama.

Yo GD, might as well correct that - Shota's gang (he's the producer), where Shota orchestrated, Yohei Sato (VGO's conductor) conducted for the recording, and Falk who's basically a side character did the engineering.

I hope they fixed the Xbox One Controller issue that are present in the first two. Really annoying to not have the opening cutscene play then the game lock up because of it.

Hopefully higher res can be modded in.

Looking forward to seeing it run on PC. One of the major downsides of it was all the performance issues on the PS3.

Really glad to see a PC port of this...when i played 13-2 it almost killed me on PS3 considering it felt like it was perpetually in the low 20s and below. And i'm certain i heard the 360 version was even worse then that

Yeah, it got real bad on 360 in the Wildlands.

I played through both games all the way through with an Xbox One controller, no issues other than the shitty performance... Weird.

Looking forward to buying and playing this again. Even though the first two games visually benefit more on PC, I don't think I'll ever invest the hours needed to replay them (let alone 100% them again).

Combat system and general structure's fun as hell. Shame that Squeenix is gravitating to completely real time as opposed to a full-budgeted game using similar systems.

It's a weird ass driver issue where you have to change the name of the Controller in Device Manager so it's read as something else in-game. I don't get it, but it's a known issue.

I'd hope that since it's been a year since 13-2 came out that this one is really optimized well.

Quick question: I played XIII-2 earlier this year but by the time I was done doing everything I was kinda burned out on the game and didn't play any of the DLC. I know some of it is irrelevant but do I need to at least play the Lightning-centric one before this?

Well, for what it's worth, I never played that DLC(for the same reason although I got burned out just doing the main story of XIII-2) and I don't feel like I missed out on anything when I played LR.

Its been a few years since I've played it, but from a story perspective, I believe that you don't need to play it, but just watch the ending of it. I think its just the ending of the game from her perspective.

Might as well get used to playing on a timer, too.

Dohohoho

That's true, no timestop in real life though.

You don't really need to play the "Requiem of the Goddess" DLC but it would be better if you did. That DLC is actually quite confusing for many.

In the end it only depends on wheter you care about the story details or not.

I sold my ps3 for my ps4 and thought I'd miss out on this game. Very excited to finally get to play through it.

Those are some kinda low-end requirements. This game is a maybe. Played the PS3 version when it came out and found the main quest to be suitably enjoyable, but the game forces you to play way, way more after you're done with the five main missions.

Alright, thanks. How long are they, anyway? I was under the impression that the DLCs were something like 5+ hours each but howlongtobeat lists much shorter time for them now. If they're really that short then maybe I'll just take a break from Dragon Quest Heroes tonight and give them a shot.

I never played the Lightning-centric one and the story in LR made enough sense to me (it made way more sense than XIII-2, anyway).

The DLC is somewhat relevant to the setup for LR though, but it's probably sufficient to watch it on YouTube or read a summary on the FF wiki.

The most salients bits are probably (XIII-2 Spoilers):
1. Lightning blames herself for Serah's death.
2. Serah's soul says it's not Lightning's fault, but asks Lightning to never forget her.
3. Lightning turns herself into crystal to be an eternal monument to Serah's memory.

Honestly all you need before jumping into LR is the 16-bit retro-spective that Squeenix put together.

GODDESS.

I still haven't started 13 let alone 13-2, but I grabbed this from greenman when they jumped the gun on the listing for a hot minute.

Extremely curious about the port quality. The store page feature list and the issue with xbone controllers on the previous two games doesn't inspire confidence.

One of my favourite Final Fantasy. The gameplay is goddamn awesome and the music is godtier. Of course, you won't like everything. The game is far from perfect and has a lot of issues but it's definitely something you should try, now in 1080p 60fps. Let's hope the port is better than XIII and XIII-2

This is really peculiar to me for some reason because they even go out of their way to say it will also not be available in the future. What's the deal?
Nobody knows, I'm curious too :(.

There are only 2 story DLC, Sazh's episode is kinda useless and less than an hour long. Lightning's DLC is about 1-2 hours long depending on how you play.

What issue with xbone controllers? If you mean the driver thing that was a global bug with Windows 10 that could be fixed by reinstalling the driver. Microsoft really messed it up somehow. Maybe it was fixed in an OS update by now. Was there a different issue?

Not that that excuses the poor state of the ports. Can't believe they never bothered to fix the frame pacing issues.

I really really disliked the story of this game, but the amazing combat system keeps me coming back.
Ill make sure to grab it first thing in the morning.

Also, I'll beat the hallway 3 star boss in Luxerion as soon as I start the file.
Beating that boss first thing in the game is always fun without items and experience.

Oh, the FF wiki lists the Snow one under scenarios, so I assumed it was a story DLC. But, looking at the description, it looks like it's just some Coliseum battles. Eh, probably not gonna waste my time with that.

I'll definitely check out the other ones tonight if they're that short, though. Thanks.

Maybe now I'll finally get around finishing this game
because of cheat engine obv
Did you find it hard?

It's just a boss battle with 2 meaningless cutscenes.

On thing they need to address asap:

Xbox One Wireless Controller Adapter doesn't work in FF13 and 13-2. Tell me it won't be the same here please.

Long story short, the controller will freeze in any menu like dialogs, main menu, saves etc.

This is worrying... I just got a wireless adapter to get around some intermittent usb disconnects I was getting with mine...

I'll probably get this in the Christmas sale. Dunno if it'll be discounted, but it wont' hurt to wait

Doubt it will be discounted so soon.

If the SQEX's XMAS Surprise contains a LR:FFXIII voucher please send me a PM and I'll give the voucher to you, I won't need it anyway.

I mean, the man's a miracle worker but lately there's been a half dozen Japanese games lately that have stubbornly maintained their locks after release, including one released by Square a week ago.

Granted, most of them are Koei Tecmo games, so there might be more hope here.
Koei Tecmo games maintain their locks (from my perspective, of course someone else could fix them) because I refuse to fix them, not because it would be particularly challenging. They annoy the hell out of me.

If Square Enix seriously went back to a resolution lock after releasing a game with arbitrary resolution support on the same engine then they'll also be on my shitlist. That's inexcusable.
