I was secretly hoping that the Korean girl would have stayed on that stage to make a statement. She and her coach really believed they were getting screwed over by (possibly) faulty timekeeping, and I don't blame them. The officials definitely have some explaining to do.

My biggest concern is how flippant they seem to be in the interviews afterwards, i wish i saw more die hard passion, im sure they have it but it never translates well when they talk to the media, all i hear is "yeah, gave my best, cant ask for more" etc.
It's simply not good enough. These are professional athletes and not some guy from the pub giving it his best. For people who are paid to train in these events I expect much, much better.

I mean the other athletes aren't super human, so what are we doing that is so much worse?

Usually I don't really complain about the consolation speeches, but our guy actually just said "yeah, it's just great to swim in a pool like this!"

*facepalm.

Blame Lottery funding. They hand out grants like they're going out of fashion. They need to start taking money away from under performers.

What exactly is happening with fencing?

I've missed whatever the hell was going on.

Seems to be over now. Highly controversial time-keeping led to the German fencer being given a point in overtime as the clock expired. Without that point, the Korean fencer would have won. With restarts and simultaneous hits, the last second seemed to last for three.

Appeals were made, forcing the Korean fencer to stay on the piste. Apparently all appeals have now been denied, and she was escorted from the piste (with the threat of disqualification if she didn't).

So only the German TV knew about the time, not even the BBC. Gotcha.

it was a German website who reported it. it doesnt matter though, no matter who won one country would've been screwed over. it was obviously a situation that didnt happen before / wasnt in the rules books. we can only speculate what happens, so far the explanation from the website (official clock counting tenths of a second, scoreboard clocks just full seconds) makes the most sense.

British are shite at Swimming.

Miley's attitude when she came in 5th was crap "well I tried my best and I made the final, I'm really happy" ugh.

Adlington is amazing though.

4-0 hockey!

I love his "i hope we inspire people" line, sure, id love more journeymen in Rio, why not?

I know right? Only 5th best in the entire world at his job and hes happy with that?!?! Jokers the lot of them.

Bwahaha, I like that.

So the German fencing coach is on TV. He just said that it was a techinal mistake that the clock went to 0s, he feels sad for the Korean fencer and feels that the decision shouldnt have taken that long.

I would be absolutely fine if he finished fifth if he showed an ounce of will to win, you may not see this but in every single interview with a GB swimmer who has failed to get a medal you get the feeling they are just happy to be there. Now thats fine, i would be happy to be there but for the love of god show me you want it, show you me you left everything out there, that it means more to you than just a paycheck. Position is nothing, medals are nothing, they can all go to hang so long as the person representing my country has given everything and wanted it just as much as anyone else, that is simply all i ask for.

The British athletes should want to grind their opponent's bones to dust, not follow in their trail and hope they get to feed off the scraps. Our ancestors were complete lunatics that nearly conquered the world through force, not some meek little mice. If there was a time when we should summon that imperialistic "stamp on your rival's neck" attitude that built the Empire then now would be it.

I'm being overdramatic and don't pine for the days of old, just that warlike attitude that we can attach to sport.

So did the South Korean girl actually get screwed, or was it just a matter of the timings shown not being correct?

We won't know unless they release a synched video showing the official clock overlayed on the match so we can see where it started and stopped.

Knowing the IOC... yeah, we're never seeing that video.

lol German coach says it was the South Korean girls on fault...

he didnt really. he just that the she was very defensively and didnt want to take on a fight. Thus it was her fault that she even got into the SITUATION and didnt try to win the match herself before time was running out.
