The women's 1500m was the biggest pile of bullshit I've ever seen.

ALL of the competitors could have won gold on their qualifying times if they actually put the effort into it.
It may have been bullshit, but not for that reason.

In the semis there is an insentive for the outside chance runners to make the time fast.

There is no insentive to break the air out front, and destroy your chances in a sprint for a medal. It's always been a tactical race, and obviously no one felt they could splinter the field.

Guys the taekwondo finals were great. Had fairly cheap seats but the view was still great. Felt really special seeing history being made when Gabon won their first ever Olympic medal. The cheers for him during the medal ceremony were crazy!

Going to check out the marathon tomorrow, and spend some time at one of the big screens to see some of the last events before heading home.

Ugh, watching Canada lose the bronze in that fashion was terrible... seeing the faces of the some of the runners made me want to cry. That is a dream taken from you. That sucked to watch, so I couldn't even begin to imagine what they felt then. Regardless, they did an amazing job though. Proud of them!

The judges made the right call of it being a DQ; can't argue that, but they really fucked up in naming Canada the bronze before they were entirely sure.

I don't know how well informed you were viewing from home but that was incredibly tense in the stadium; we saw the times, we let out a huge cheer for the WR... then they took it off the screen, said they'd 'need to confirm those results'... then we saw an official approaching Bolt. That was a very easy environment in which to put two and two together and make five.

Edit: seeing Atrophis's post above: is it me or have we had a few more first-time medalling countries than usual this time round?

It's kind of amazing that, had everything gone as planned, GB could have had 2 or 3 more golds in the cycling. Credit to British Cycling.

It's kind of the complete opposite to our swimming team, which absolutely flopped.

I've seen this comment a lot. Was there are lot of expectation for GB in the pool? I don't think it's been very well represented in the past. Were there a lot of people that performed under their personal bests, etc?

None of the listings show the Gold Medal match for Women's Volleyball but NBC Sports. On Wednesday.

My listings on DirectTV say Track and Field, Diving, Volleyball. I'm sure they will show the last few points of the 4th set, but they were planning on showing most of the match if not the entire thing.

They were planning on showing the entire volleyball match today, but since we lost they are relegated to showing shit from the history channel. At least preseason football is on!
That's really unacceptable. My sister was trying to find that game all day. Now I have to tell her they're not showing it because... NBC sucks!?

I believe the target was 5-7. We won 3...

They took a gamble that the USA would win. Expect diving to get a lot of coverage in tonights broadcast, if not the entire event to be shown. NBC is sooooo predictable and it pisses me off. Can't the BBC come over to the states please?

Yeah, they lost. I think we can handle seeing USA miss out on at least 1 gold. Jesus... that's what makes a good game, right? Instead I'm treated to a hour long Brokaw documentary. WTF?! Id rather watch ANY sport over this movie.

That being said, ... what a mistake it was of Japan's to attack Pearl Harbor... tsk... tsk...tsk.

Man, all I've heard is complaints about NBC...sorry to hear

I really hope BBC keep up the solid coverage through 2016 and 2020 though.

NBC's coverage has been absolutely terrible. I get the pro-USA thing but you've got to have some balance. I was pissed that they showed the 4x100 women relay heats or heat I should say because the only race I saw was the one that the U.S. was in. They didn't bother showing the rest.

I am not hoping for a U.S. loss but I'm glad that the Jamaicans are owning in a good portion of the sprints and relays. They're forced to show the races because the U.S. athletes are in the races and due to Bolt's popularity but at the same time knowing that an "L" is headed their way. Feel the burn.

Wasn't really a good game, Brazil steamrolled the US after the first set.

I'm gonna miss this thread when the Olympics are over. :(

Hell, I could probably say quite a fraction of my post count for the past two weeks was in the Olympics threads.

The Port Of Spain traffic is probably due to the heavy rains we had today. There was some pretty bad flooding earlier in the day. Of course that ain't gonna stop Trinis from partying.
Yeah, my uncle said that when he called (we have relatives over, so you could imagine all the relating, bacchanal, and back and forth). But nothing could stop them from partying or setting another holiday.

I think Daley should get a gold medal for his effort. When everyone only has 6 dives he did it 7 times! I am sure the sum of his 7 dives should be a gold medal.

Hey, his re-dive was in the rules and thus he was absolutely right to appeal for another go.

Congrats on the guy for getting bronze.

I can't stand the kid, but at the end of the day there was flash photography when he took his first dive. I'd have pointed the fuckers out and let the crowd deal with them.

Exactly (minus the not standing of him, I think he's alright).

If you're competing at the fucking Olympics and you feel like you've been put off? Then you're going to use the rule to your advantage - you'd be stupid not to actually.

God, it looks like their heads are so close to the platform. I remember being afraid of hitting my head doing backflips off my uncle's diving board.

So I was reading Bolt's bio on the london2012 website when I came about this:

"In his 2010 biography 'Usain Bolt: 9.58' he revealed that he doesn't consider himself a conventional athlete and could run even faster if he could be bothered to live a more disciplined lifestyle. "I'm so lucky that I'm raw talent," he said. "If I really worked at it I could be extremely good indeed, but I never have. Yes, I put the effort in at times, but I could do more. If I train right, eat right, go to the gym all the time and dedicate myself 100 per cent then I definitely will do crazy times. It's hard, I don't know how some sportsmen do it, I do what I like, stay up until whatever time I feel like, socialise when I like and eat what I like. I don't follow any of the rules." (smh.com.au, 06 Sep 2011)"

Is he just playing? Probably not, I wonder how fast he can be.

The commentator mentioned the Chinese diver today could get marked down for one of his dives being too close to the platform so I guess they try and actively discourage it. I don't know what the rule is but the commentator didn't seem happy about it.

Saying that, some of the dives today though made me wince. I mean if you flipped into the corner of the platform you'd definitely kill yourself.

Tomorrow would have been amazing with Paula Radcliffe owning the doubters with a marathon win. Feel so bad for her, such a great athlete, just injuries destroyed her Olympics over and over. Then the media treats her like shit.

It's the men's marathon tomorrow. The woman's marathon was last weekend.
