LPVG: Update on Zelda BotW's release and Mother 3.

If Zelda's at launch, Mario's probably gonna get pushed back to at least the summer. As awesome as it would be, there's no need for both on Day 1

While I feel the same way - in that simultaneous Zelda + 3D Mario launch is kinda redundant - rumours have been suggesting Mario is a lock for launch far longer than those for Zelda (though, these rumours have since been upended).

Personally I'd rather see Nintendo driving a brand new IP at launch.

No, Mario Kart 8, Smash 4 and Mario Maker means they don't have enough content. MK8 isn't making launch day - and it really should - and the other two are big ???.

To be frank, they should have that Pokemon Stars game out asap, too, but I understand why that is going to take longer.
It supposedly was planned for a Summer 2017 release, but polishing Sun/Moon so it would be ready in time for the 2016 holiday season apparently pushed back Stars to this coming Fall.

As for MK8, I remember reading from one of the leakers that the port was basically done, but I could be mistaken. Either way, there's nothing wrong with spacing things out to give us some breathing room. The ports are most likely just means of saving great games from the sinking ship known as the Wii U.

...i have no idea what you are talking about to be honst. Probably just best to watch the conference next week - you are mixing up a bunch of rumors to come up with that conclusion.

Switch version based of MK8, Smash 4 and Mario Maker means they dont have enough content - but Stars which is based on Sun/Moon would mean they have enough content ? lol

Not holding my breath, but I really hope Mother 3 is not the only game being considered for a late localization for VC.

At the very least, give us Fire Emblem 6 so that every Smash Bros. character has their game released worldwide!

EarthBound because it was so niche, I guess. I don't know they released plenty of garbage no one wanted.

Duck Hunt because lightgun games are garbage on Wii, the Zapper emulation would feel like shit with a wii remote. I have played Duck Hunt on the Wii via an emulator and it sucked.
Duck hunt was on Wii U VC

Am I right in taking this talk of Mother 3 as a localised version of the GBA game and not the cancelled N64 version?

For those of you that didnt read the article, she knows of three third party exclusives but "don't hold your breath regarding quality".

Edit (for direct quote):

I maintain there are three third party developed exclusives coming to Switch at launch. Without ruining the surprises, don’t hold your breath on the quality of them, just the fact they are exclusive.

So three third party exclusives at LAUNCH.

The Wii U had duck hunt as a virtual console title, used the Wii remote as an emulated zapper and was great.

No, i'm adding Stars to the pile. Im saying i understand a lot more work is going into that release.

Lol, why would you think it would be the unfinished N64 game?

Although it is pretty fishy that they would sit on Mother 3 instead of releasing it on Wii U, don't you think?

Remember when Earthbound and Earthbound Beginnings was the biggest announcement they had at one point?

No, it's a show of good faith. Emulation for that game is pretty sub-optimal due to the rhythm elements, anyway.

Emulation isn't the only way to play it though.

I'm just curious about a date for the Wii U port of BotW since a Switch won't be in my immediate future.

Unless it's delayed in the eu (let's pray this is not the case) , then they need Mario for the eu launch.

I want Pokémon Stars announced next week.
I mean, we could very well get a reveal for Stars next week, which would line up pretty nicely with the Pokémon Bank being made available for Sun/Moon. But at the same time, it's just as likely that The Pokémon Company could hold off on revealing Stars 'till sometime in the Spring where they'd have the entire spotlight to themselves. That plus revealing it next week could hurt Sun/Moon's legs & potentially piss off those who got Sun/Moon for Christmas. It's more of a 50/50 situation in terms of the likelihood for either scenario, right now.

I don't mind the ports but they should be there at launch or as close as possible. They should stack that launch and come out blazing. Spreading out the ports just makes me worried that they are using them to avoid big gaps in the release schedule.

If it won't be ready until Fall then they would be wise to wait until E3 so they don't stall sales on the 3DS versions.

Would also give them something else to announce at E3 for 2017.

It's not like the PS4/Xbone had a lot of remasters in their anemic first years or anything...

Mario, Zelda, and Splatoon at launch would be the greatest Nintendo launch for me.

Nice to see that Mother 3 VC might actually be a reality. The game looked very interesting, so I'd love the opportunity to finally play it.

I'm gonna bet that the WiiU will probably be held back a month after the Switch release.

Either way, it's unwise to overstuff your launch. I mean, you can't leave it barren, but I wouldn't call Zelda, Splatoon Switch, & Mario x Rabbids on Day 1 barren. Having a steady stream of releases is more important than a filled-to-the-brim launch, especially when you'd run the risk of overshadowing the other third party games (which would ruin what little hope the Switch has at long-term western third party support).

At this point I would be shocked if BotW WiiU releases the same day as the Switch version. Probably a week delay like they did with Twilight Princess GCN.

The next 10 (or should I say 9) days will be very very long!

I don't want leaks, but I want leaks at the same time.

This is driving me crazy!

Great news on both fronts. I never held much stock in the BotW June rumors as everything Nintendo was doing by showing the game ran counter to that idea.

Mother 3 getting a proper release in the West is long overdue and I hope it does well. Such a fantastic series.

Oh, they absolutely did, no doubt, but those consoles were able to coast on the fact that they were the next leap in console power. The Switch is weaker, three years later, so it needs the games to be right.

Given that it's The Pokémon Company we're talking about, it'd likely be revealed in a separate Direct during the Spring if it's not at the Switch Presentation, next week.

This fanfare from Nintendo regarding mother 3 release feels unwarranted (unless it is a remake???). We are talking about a GBA game here.

nice to have another source back the Mother 3 rumor. when multiple credible outlets reported on it and then it seemingly went away my thought was that it got shelved for the Switch.

We're talking about one of the greatest games ever made. But I know where you are coming from.

Have you played it?
