LPVG: Update on Zelda BotW's release and Mother 3.

I don't mind the ports but they should be there at launch as close to possible. They should stack that launch and come out blazing. Spreading out the ports just makes me worried that they are using them to avoid big gaps in the release schedule.

Has there been a system without a Year 1 drought this millennium? I feel like it's pretty much a given when you buy into a console that systems don't hit their stride until 18-24 months after release.

If Nintendo's rumoured first year line-up pans out with the following new titles:
Zelda:BOTW, 3D Mario, Mario RPG, Pokemon Stars, Pikmin 4/reboot;
Bolstered by ports/.5-versions:
'Splatoon: Second Coat, Mario Kart 8.5, Super Smash Bros U:GOTY-Edition, Xenoblade X:HD, Mario Maker 1.5
I wouldn't scoff at that, even as a Wii U owner who has purchased and played most of these games.'

You're also forgetting the mystery new IP that Emily Rogers hinted at as well as Retro Studios & Monolith Soft's new projects, though I'm not getting my hopes up for the Monolith Soft project being out this year.

None of which were here. Not holding my breath for Retro, let alone Monolith, to be in Year one.

Where are those names coming from?

Apologies, these aren't the official names (though Splatoon: Second Coat is far more clever and appropriate than Spla2n). I just used them to reflect what's been suggested about them e.g. Smash is a port with all DLC and marginal additions, whereas Splatoon-2 and MK8 are significantly altered/upgraded.

I'm kind of ready for the leaks to stop. It was all fun and games when we had no clue about the NX, but damn I enjoy some surprises a few times a year.

I want them to stop because if everything is leaked I just know there will be pages of posts (and likely a thread or two) complaining about Nintendo not revealing anything and the presentation being shit because of it.

Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a strange name for a game with MARIO in it. You'd think they'd put MARIO in the name somewhere, unless his role in the game is fairly limited.

I always believed in Mother 3 AKA Earthbound 2: Lucas' Reckoning/Origins

If Zelda's at launch, Mario's probably gonna get pushed back to at least the summer. As awesome as it would be, there's no need for both on Day 1

Yeah there is. One good game at launch would be terrible, you need at least a few. Especially when Nintendo has earned a reputation of barely putting out any games on their systems. They need to be on a mission to prove to consumers they won't regret buying Nintendo this time around.

It could be a subtitle, like:

Mario RPG: Rabbids Kingdom Battle

Rayman Legends again? This does not make sense. The game will be 4 years old by then.

And they probably expect to sell 1 million when everybody who wanted to play the game already did in other consoles? That game exists for PC, PS4, PS3, Vita, One, 360, and Wii U. Why Switch after so long?

Sorry but it's nonsense for me.

Anyone who cares about Mother 3 has already downloaded, patched and played. It has no appeal to new players, at this point it is incredibly niche. Agree with the summer nerd bait release, I'd grab it then but wouldn't buy a system for it when I can just play it on my phone.

Rayman Legends port is an embarrassing start to the Switch, that can't be real, it was also (iirc?) a Wii U launch exclusive.

I've mentioned this a few times in the Switch thread, but there's a few problems with having both Zelda & Mario on Day 1.
  • Having mainline entries for two of your biggest franchises would somewhat eat into each other's profits, even if both will have solid legs as far as long-term sales go.
  • Both on Day 1 would also leave every other third party game in the dust, which wouldn't bode well for the Switch's long-term third party support.
That being said, Mario RPG: Rabbids Kingdom Battle not coming until September would kinda leaves room for the 3D Mario game to fill the void as the Mario game at launch without much franchise overlap. But the issues mentioned above would still be issues.

Another potential platform for more sales, duh. The Wii U is dead and the Switch is portable.

Eh, I dunno. The Mother franchise diehards have played the fan translation, but I am sure most of them would buy an official release just to support the title/series. There are plenty of other people who are aware of the translation but don't touch roms/emulators or people who have no idea it exists but know about Lucas in Smash Bros who are potential audiences for such a title. Either way it's going to be a digital only VC release so I am sure their expectations are in check.

Putting aside the fact that openly bragging about piracy isn't a good look...

Maybe so, but I picked up Earthbound Beginnings for the same reason that I picked up DQ 7 and 8 on 3DS, its a gesture that I believe in what they are doing and that I'd like to see more entries in those series in the future.

I'm glad that my Earthbound Beginnings purchase helped create incentive for an official localization of Mother 3, but I'd rather have it on Wii U as well, the place that I bought the first 2 titles in the trilogy.

A Mother 3 diehard probably won't buy it if Zelda comes out on the same day, just wait until they big games are done and release it later. Seems weird but great if it is finally coming, would do much better on 3DS eShop though.

Releasing a 16-bit game and doing a big song and dance for it on a home console in 2017 seems off.

Personally, I'm in the group that has played but not finished it, though I wouldn't touch it if I had Zelda and a new Mario.

Edit: I'm not bragging about piracy, was more just trying to highlight that anyone wanting to play it can do so via the patch. I've not linked to it and don't own it, though have admitted I played it but didn't finish as I'd rather the real deal.

Not holding my breath, but I really hope Mother 3 is not the only game being considered for a late localization for VC.

At the very least, give us Fire Emblem 6 so that every Smash Bros. character has their game released worldwide!
Oh man, I would LOVE if Mother 3 opened the door to more 1st party VC localizations. Even at premium pricing if they need to, I'm fully prepared to pay $19.99 for M3.

Other new localizations I'd be interested in:
