It's in the energy saving settings after you installed the software update.

Sounds like a nifty feature. I'm trying it out tonight, let's see if I have some mail waiting in the morning.

When did you install that update? I don't have that option nor do I see an update available (2011 Air).

I just got a notification about the update 10 minutes ago. Installed it right away.

It'll probably roll out soon wherever you are at.

I might be jinxing this now, but damn Mountain Lion feels snappy and responsive. I've got a 1st gen i7 MacBook Pro that has been recently just sluggish and beachballing. After the Lion upgrade disaster I was very concerned that I'd be totally ****ed after another early upgrade, but this feels amazing. Not many new things, but snappy.

Trying to install lion on my flash drive. Is that the only way to do a clean install? 40 minute wait just installing it on the drive >.>

Typical, finally get round to sorting Mountain Lion out but I've lost my screwdrivers for my Macbooks HDD caddy screws.
Will have to pick up some cheap ones tomorrow, they are the torx ones right?

I hope widgets make it over to the notification center like the iOS. I like the simple swipe to check weather. Something like that on OS X to see feeds, weather or whatever would be neat.

Man waiting for a redemption code is annoying. Since people have waited 10 hours and I just requested one 30 minutes ago, I'll assume I won't get it until tomorrow.

You can always set it to a hot corner.

I'm increasingly finding the dashboard to be a waste. Apps running in the menu bar are much more useful (IMO). I wish we could just turn it off outright, and not be limited to spaces on the left of the default desktop.

I just simply turned off / disabled my dashboard using this terminal command:

defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean YES

Then a killall Dock

Dashboard just seemed useless and I didn't want it coming up in Mission Control or accidentally swiping to it.

In defense of Apple it's only been a year since Lion. How much can you put in that is worthwhile?

It's like expecting an EA sports game to be more than a few core features and thoughtful tweaks.

And let's face it iOS is their bread and butter these days

It's been their main focus for a while now. Basically ever since they started working on the iPhone. 10.5, their last big upgrade, was delayed to work on iPhone OS. 10.6 didn't release until 2 years later with hardly any new features. Same story for 10.7, except they ported some iPad apps and brought style to the calendar.

It's a shame they all but abandoned OSX, though I can't really blame them for throwing all their support behind iOS.

Too bad about the ported iOS apps. They're pretty ugly and don't fit. I like the texture in Mission Control, but besides that, Apple needs to stop making their software look like real life objects. Instead they should be inspired by Sparrow and the twitter app!

But I guess thats a whole other discussion.

What's the issue here. Going through everything from 10.5ish to 10.8, that's same kind of jump as Windows Vista to Windows 7 or 7 to 8. Seems like normal OS release pattern to me but I'm new to Macs.

Oh, and the ugliest UI Apple has right now in both iOS and now OSX is Game Centre. What the hell is that? Some kind of card table with ugly medieval banners?

They haven't 'abandoned' OSX. Enough with the BS sensationalism. Please include a list of feature that aren't in OSX that you'd like to see, and that the average user would like to see. I'm honestly curious. Yes, mobile is the future- they sold 4 million iMacs this quarter, as opposed to 26 million iPhones and 17 million iPads. Putting even more focus on OSX wouldnt have changed that much. But committing to yearly OSX updates indications they're doing anything but abandoning it, and by all accounts they're heading in the right direction- tighter integration between both platforms. To me, this makes more sense than slapping a touch layer on top of their desktop OS, which is what Microsoft has done, an interface utterly unoptimized for the input method, and calling it innovation. I honestly can't think of system-wide features I'm really craving from OSX that aren't already there.

I did a clean install of Mountain Lion, is there any way I can get QuickTime Player 7 back? I don't see it in the Utilities folder.

I dunno guys, i think Reminders is the ugliest The black texture, dark red and grey text on the optional side bar looks weird and, most importantly, is really hard to read. The actual note "paper" itself isn't awful but, man, that sidebar is an abomination.

At least there's more contrast between text and background with iCal calendar, address book and game center

Just installed it on my new retina MBP and next up is my iMac.

Only had a brief look at it but I like the little changes. The performance is better, most notably in the new Safari which actually made me switch back to it from Chrome.

Oh yeah, one really neat part about X11 is the ability for a program to run on Computer A's processor and memory while showing its window on Computer B across the network(read: internet) and taking keyboard and mouse input from Computer B. Same for programs running on Computers C, D, and E. Programs are considered "clients" while the display is considered the "server".

...and this was doable since the 90s.

I can't believe I've been so far out of the loop. They're removing X11?!

Edit: Yeah, XQuartz. Hrm. Still, I can't believe I missed all this.
