You can upgrade to Snow Leopard then straight to Mountain Lion, you can skip Lion.
You just need to have the latest version of Snow Leopard.
What if you go from a fresh HDD? Can you just do a straight install of ML?

10.8.1 out.
7.28MB. Dat delta update.
Ah good to know. I had heard about the iOS6 behavior but didn't know it was coming over to ML also. To be clear I like this I hate having to enter my password everytime an update pops in randomly. I obsessively clear out badges so I end up entering my password a lot on app updatesiOS6 no longer asks for your password when you install app updates. Some places wrote about it not asking when downloading a free app for the first time, but I think they're mistaken. It's only when downloading updates for apps.
The file from the Mac app store can be made into a bootable USBI want to install Mountain Lion on a totally new, fresh SSD. Apparently there is a small file I can download from Apple and put onto a USB thumb drive, which will allow me to the boot the Mac, and download ML from an Installer menu. Does anyone know where this file is on Apple's site?
Thanks
How do they handle the setup of that?Using 10.8.2 with iOS 6 and being able to reply to iMessages sent to my phone number via my Mac is awesome.
I still can't believe people fell for the MBPr ... or that they wanted it in the first place.
It's just not time yet.

I needed to replace my 2006 C2D 17" MBP, the thing was running sluggish as fuck and didn't even support mountain lion. Plus, the max RAM in the classic MBP was 8GB.I still can't believe people fell for the MBPr ... or that they wanted it in the first place.

iMessages only though. You have to set it up on your iPhone first. Then just deactivate iMessage and reactivate it on all devices that you want to receive the messages sent to your phone number (iPad, iPod Touch, Mac).

Annnyone at all...Sooo mum has just run into an odd issue with Mail and the Calendar. She had set a random event in the Calendar, not realising that the default setting is to send a mail reminder a day before the event. So mum just got this reminder in Mail, which is attached to her Gmail account. She deleted it, which moved it to Trash just like any other deleted mail. She then went to reply to another mail, and it refused to do anything. Clicking 'New Message' would also do nothing. I tried to quit Mail, and then the reminder that had been moved to the trash popped up as if we were replying to it. Only when I closed that message would it allow replies or new messages to be created.
So I tested it again, setting another event in the Calendar. Again, the email reminder came through, I deleted it, and again Mail refused to let me reply to any messages or create new messages. This time I went to quit Mail, and it disappeared, but with the dock indicating that it was still running. Mail had locked up in a weird way, refused to show up. I had to Force Quit it, and then it worked again...
Anyone else experiencing this?
Annnyone at all...
Or if anyone uses the Mail app... can you just test it out by making an event in the Calendar and then deleting the email reminder, to see if Mail locks up?
Are you using a Gmail account to fetch from? Just trying to nail down why this is happening...Tried it, it didn't.
Yep. Then I used my Gmail to email my iCloud mail. It worked. Are you using a Gmail account to fetch from? Just trying to nail down why this is happening...

Can I AirPlay video from a Mac to my iPad? No, I don't want to do Air Video. Also, is it possible without being on a wifi network? By that, I mean wifi direct.
I think all airplay receiver apps were removed from the Appstore this time last year, there probably are some on one of the JB stores.
You can also play videos that are in your iTunes collection over the network.
What's wrong with AirVideo? Works well enough for me.
No, but who doesn't already have a wifi network? You could probably use your computer to set up a virtual one using network sharing, depending on your hardware configuration.
I know, but that just proves it's self-defeating. Kinda like Vista's security stuff.Go to security in system preferences and you can select that you don't want apple approval for installing apps.
Wait, what? ML is ridiculously more responsive on rmbp compared to Lion. It's like a night and day difference in general UI and with browsing in Safari. What scrolling behavior?Still no fix for the lag on the MBPr. Fucking ridiculous Apple. Also no turning off the stupid scrolling behavior. Will continue to use lion I guess.

I think it only asks you once per app though - the first time you launch it on 10.8. If you're getting asked more then that, it sounds like something's wrong.I know, but that just proves it's self-defeating. Kinda like Vista's security stuff.
I just noticed the "Show clipboard" command in Finder's Edit menu. Is this new? I have never seen this before.
Like I said, it's just that it happened for so many programs I was putting in, including awesome ones like Celestia and Stellarium.I think it only asks you once per app though - the first time you launch it on 10.8. If you're getting asked more then that, it sounds like something's wrong.
Lion and ML are pretty awesome after using Windows and some Linux OS's for all these years. My only complaint is the lack of a window snap (like aero snap in Windows 7) and some Safari issues. Safari is the best browser, in that it feels the most responsive, but it's missing a few things. Favicons by the name of the tab would be a nice little touch to make it easier to tell which tab is which for example.
I absolutely love the multi-touch gestures. Don't know if I can go back to another laptop without them.
If you want Aero Snap like features just install Better Touch Tool, alternatively you can pay for Cinch on the App Store.
That's why I stopped using that screensaver and just use one of the nice looking photo ones with my folder of desktop pictures. I hate and always hated that stupid ability to play music from it. It's not needed. I don't want it. I want it off! So now it's off.Any chance anyone knows of anything that provides more options for the iTunes Screesaver, I like it because I like seeing all my artwork, but if I could I would turn off the ability to play music for when I do accidentally hit it, an option to only allow music and ignore podcasts would be good too.
Anyone know of anything that would do what I want?
I think it was added back in System 6 or 7. So...20 ish years ago?
Seriously? Uh, I'm gobsmacked. Thought I knew every nook and cranny.
If you want the OS on the SSD, install Lion on the SSD and format the other drive as just a blank partition, then you can put all your music/photos and stuff on there. You can set iTunes and iPhoto to have their libraries on other drives so you can just point them to your other hard drive.Anyone use two hard drives in lion (or osx in general?) Just installed an SSD in place of my optical drive and wondering how I'm going to do this now.
I have Lion on my original hard drive already. I want my SSD to hold the OS and all the applications. Right now the SSD is just installed and no OS or anything on it.
Can I then point certain folders (music, photos, movies, and documents) to that original mechanical drive? Does that mechanical drive have to have Lion on it as well or can I format it and it kind of acts like an external but internal? So it would have Documents, Music, Movies, Photos on the root of that drive and somehow I can point the SSD to those folders on the other drive? Sorry if this sounds confusing I am kind of confused myself.
One thing I was wondering as well is can I have iTunes the actual application be on the SSD and the library pointing to the music folder on my mechanical drive? Or does the application and library have to be on the same drive? Same question goes for iPhoto.
Awesome thanks. I was mostly worried about the iTunes and iPhoto library stuff. I hope I still get the SSD speed out of it that I want if the libraries are still being read off the mechanical drive. I wasn't quite sure how that would work. I guess I'll see soon. I hear iTunes is much better off an SSD.If you want the OS on the SSD, install Lion on the SSD and format the other drive as just a blank partition, then you can put all your music/photos and stuff on there. You can set iTunes and iPhoto to have their libraries on other drives so you can just point them to your other hard drive.
Have they said when the Facebook stuff is going to be patched in?
