MAD MAX |OT| Beyond Thunderpoon

Augh, you guys are making me want this so bad but it hasn't come in the mail yet. Seems like it could be another Dying Light where a lot of places said its meh or mediocre but it actually turns out to be a blast.

Picked MGSV, having trouble getting into it. Ironically, after reading impressions, i'm wishing I picked this up and waited on a sale for MGS instead.

As i stated before, this is my view towards these two games. I urge people who enjoy either game to check out the other.

I installed and played this for about 3-3.5 hours today, and left it on for about an hour and a half because of supper/dishes so my play time is skewed.

I'm not loving it so far. I want to, and was looking forward to it, but I'm not. It's okay, though.

Granted, I'm not that far. I just made it to
Jeet's safehouse
, as I spent a lot of time doing side quests. There's an overwhelming amount of them.

The combat is pretty fun, but the driving isn't as great as it should've been in a Mad Max game, and there's too much going on at once. I get Just Cause 2 vibes from it, for obvious reasons, and I did love that game (up until the end, when I got bored of having to do so much destruction in order to unlock the last two story missions). However, Max doesn't have the insane abilities and vehicles that Rico gets to use, and his game's gameplay isn't as fun thus far.

Hopefully I'll like it more as I progress.

You sound like I did the first five or so hours of the game.

Honestly, the game just wasn't catching me until after I got Jeet's stronghold. I don't know what it is but it just seems to open up from once I got there and got him as an ally. I wish I hadn't spent much time fucking around and went straight to his stronghold. It seems to unlock a lot of things and scrounging around trying to find parts to upgrade the stronghold is kinda fun too.

Also... it gets better as your car gets a little more modded up.

But yeah, first five hours I thought it was a disappointment and I was thinking this was going to be my game that I was hyped up for and found out to be disappointing. I'm completely loving it now. To the point I thought I was going to end up playing Dying Light more but I played some Dying Light today after getting it and then went back to Mad Max (Mad Max is more lighthearted/relaxing fun, Dying Light is a little intense but I'm loving the story and gameplay so far, the little I've played anyways. Though the demo starts you out as more powerful so I'm feeling a little overwhelmed right now).

I've been really loving the game so far. The combat isn't the most varied in terms of controls but the battles themselves have stayed fresh through hours of play thanks to the amount of crazy things that can happen.

Some clips:

http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/BigOilersFan/video/8559575 - first person driving...and crashing

http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/BigOilersFan/video/8559571 - Chumbucket bringing me the car. Thanks, bro.

Yeah this game is landscape porn. Great environmental and skybox art. Only a few hours in and I've wasted so much time with the screeshot mode already. My only complaint is that I wish they made the depth of field sliders faster and more easily readable like Driveclub with an overlay so I'm never guessing where my focal points are.
Damn those are some gorgeous shots!

As some know, I have been hyped and excited for Mad Max for several weeks and absolutely loving the game but I have come across something that I don't like at all. At least it took me over 20 hours to come across something I don't like. What I don't like has to do with what happens after you complete the "A Wasteland Classic" mission. It's listed below and while im not 100% sure if it qualifies but it's under a long spoiler tag anyway.

After completing that mission, you have the parts needed to build an Archangel called "JACK". Once you build it, it becomes your default car which I don't like at all and here's why - all the Archangel cars are preset builds meaning you can't upgrade or downgrade them. They are what they are. Problem is that my "Wild Hunt" default car is BETTER than the JACK car and in order to use the better car, I have to go into the garage and change the car body and re-equip all the higher upgrades that I already have.

Once I did this, I have to rebuild the JACK car again which is just a few button presses away but the point is that I don't want to use these preset cars. Granted, I currently don't have to use the JACK car but since gameplay videos showed the SPEED DEMON car being needed for a story mission later on in the game, im going to assume that the JACK and all the Archangel cars are going to be needed at some point or another. Now, I don't know if this is true since my current story mission is locked and I have to meet two requirements in order to unlock it but im going to assume that it is.

Granted, this is probably minor shit that im complaining about but I don't like this at all because it basically selects the Archangel car and you have to change everything back to the way you had it. And I can honestly say that im not going to like being forced to use the Archangel cars.

With that said, im still enjoying the game a lot and the fun factor is still a 10/10 for me personally but im just not interested in the Archangel cars at all.

What I really enjoy is that for example in camps when you are looking for scrap and insignia to amke it 100%, they vary on where you can find it or how you have to get to it. So each camp is like a puzzle and none seem the same so you still have to figure each out if you want to get everything in the camp (For example sometimes it's not just where is it but you'll see it and have to figure out how to get to it). And it seems the same with scrap areas. They all seem different and there are many that you have to figure out how to get to so it's not just a matter of go there and fight some people and get scrap.

So you may have a list of stuff to do. But it varies it within that stuff that it still feels fresh.

Well here are my screenshots so far, hope this isn't too much of a wall, all regular gameplay so no spoilers

I've seen the first 3 movies, but not Fury Road... is there anything spoilery in the game for the movie? Should I watch the movie first?

Good to know. Thanks. Hopefully I'll have the same experience tomorrow, once I progress past that part.

I spent a lot of time taking out the little towers and scavenging. I wanted to try to clear a lot of them out, but more and more keep appearing. And I'm only in the first major section of the map.

It's overwhelming.

Emergent tragedies. Stopped the Opus to share some water with some wasteland refugees - and just as the cutscene ended a couple bad guys arrived and ran them all over. :(

I felt the same way. Both games aee full of stuff that is probably extremely annoying to keep doing over a long, single session, but much less so spaced across multiple, 1-2 hour sessions.

Yeah the water thing happened to me too but it turned out my canteen was less than half full so they weren't interested so when the cars came plowing through I just left. Ungrateful bastards.

Yeah, it's pretty much the way I played Just Cause 2. Still haven't started MGSV doing that in a few minutes.

Watch the movie regardless, its so good. But no, nothing that ties in any characters or story lines from Fury Road.

And why, why, whyyyy does Chum not pronounce the word correctly. Its not "Dinky Dee" Its "Dinky DIE". Flaming heck.

This map is incredible and will be highly underrated in discussions of "best open world map" in years to come. Aside from the beautiful aesthetic, it's so well crafted from a world design standpoint. I'm surprised at how much time I've spent in winding canyon paths that aren't marked on the map, cave networks, multilayered camps, and large underground hideouts/bunkers that all feel hand crafted. They've managed to balance that vast desert wasteland feel and the videogamey denseness without leaning too far in either direction.

Heh, just ate a lizard like the beginning of Fury Road. Didn't even know you could do that.

Also just happened to me, got it captured.

Love how the truck arrived at the EXACT right moment, "BEEP BEEP motherfuckers, here to fuck yo shit up!"

Does anyone else feel like the camera is too close in hand-to-hand combat? I keep having to rotate it constantly just to see guys coming in from behind the camera. In Batman it always did a great job of pulling back so that you could see all around you, ensuring that it never accidentally "hid" oncoming attackers.

I have only played for a couple of hours but this game is ticking a lot of boxes. This game was never on my radar and those are always the best games.

A nice surprise for this month and if SOMA can be good too then it is a great month.

A lightning storm just hit as I was in the middle of climbing an outdoor structure on my way to fight one of the top dogs. Now I'm huddled in a corner waiting this beast out like a coward because it's striking all the walkways and the winds will blow me right off. Such unlucky timing.

The winds can do that? Wow.

I jumped the gun and bought the game from the US store(Xbox One) yesterday.
How is the difficulty? I'd like to start with the hardest, because I'm familiar with the combat-style from the Arkham games and similar games. Car combat? Is that the most difficult part?

Can we get a Mad Max photo thread or something? It's becoming a nightmare to read this thread on mobile.

Please?
My exact thoughts when browsing the thread during breaks at work.

I'll been struggling with the fisty cuffs but I realised I hadn't spent any of my upgrade tokens X.x The punishment for death doesn't seem that harsh either as there is some generous checkpointing, at least at normal difficulty!

The biggest thing killing me at the moment is physics. I died last night due to punching a guy which pushed me back 10 feet into an open pit, then I was picking up loot and the same thing happened and chucked me off the edge of a cliff. Then finally I went to grab a rat while climbing a hill and whoop Max seemed to have his slippy boots on, went sliding 10 feet and off the edge of the cliff :p They have all been hilarious deaths though!

No difficulty settings as far as I know. If you want to keep it difficult I think the only option you have is restricting your upgrading.

Did someone on the Xbox One have the possibility to download the additional DLC when buying the Digital version...?

It just doesn't seem to work or download for me...every time i check it says bundle only while i am quite sure it should be included with the digital version...:/

Car combat in this game is a lot of fun.

I wish they would drop the pointless story structure, and just allow you to:

1) Create a character.
2) Lift Nemesis system from SoM (which they can, since it's a WB game).
3) Introduce various factions with influence over the land, that you can freely align yourself with, ShinobiDo style.
4) Maybe let you create and build your own faction, with your very own theme, and take over the land, or play as more of a lone wolf, if you prefer.

Basically make it more system driven, instead of story driven.
We've heard the Mad Max story a million times before anyway.

yea Mad Max would of been a great game to incorporate the Nemesis system into.

GMG just sent me my key. Except that they already did, and I activated it on Sunday. And this is a different key. I haven't been home at my PC all week, so haven't even had the chance to install yet. I wonder if the old one was revoked, or if the new one was sent in error...

Anyone know what's happening here?

[edit] Preorder bonus. Thanks Warnen.

I just stopped to give a wandering wastelander some water during a storm.. He exploded during the little cut-scene that played! This game.. is my kinda game.

Played for an hour or two, up until the sniper rifle unlock. I bought this game as a counterbalance to MGSV, after 40 hours I thought it'd be the perfect game to play a bit and keep things fresh.

This game is pretty okay. Visually very striking, easily the best part. Sound is really nice too. I mostly like the driving, but [as expected] the car combat is the weakest part of the game, it can become quite tedious. Hand to hand is okay, Max is a brawler and the game does an exellent job in making his punches feel heavy. Very satisfying, albeit hardly challenging.

There's one thing that annoys me to no end, and that's how almost every button input is a [HOLD] input. Why do I need to hold triangle to enter the car? Or Hold X to loot? Or hold X to talk to someone? It's a tiny detail that keeps frustrating me.

Another small detail that ruins my immersion every time is how the screen fades to black after you refill your canteen, put fuel in your car or other small in-game mechanics. There's literally no reason for that to happen.

I also wish the HUD could be toned down, it constantly reminds you you're playing a videogame. Everything you do has some pop-up, some bar filling up, some percentage getting reached. Completely unnecessary.
I wish the game focussed more on the brutal survival of the Wastelands, it needs a "hardcore" mode or whatever. But I suppose that requires some MASSIVE tweaking.

Final thought: there needs to be a dedicated "shut the FUCK up, Chumbucket" button.
