MAD MAX |OT| Beyond Thunderpoon

I went with Die Rolla. Couldn't decide between that and Death Rattle.

Love the massive, classic stylings.

I've got Shovelface now too, looks like you can get all the bodies over time, which is good.

The driving and the cars are phenomenal though, its so tactile and brutal and solid and weighty. Just crashing around across the various terrains is such a pleasing experience.

I went with that too. Got that kind of 60s Love Bug feel to it, the true golden age of the automobile distilled into a European shell.

Need to spend 10 hours straight with this game to really make a dent into the Scrotus.

Playing for 15 hours now and still having a blast. Just reached Gutgash. The lighting is so gorgeous, no matter which regieon you visit. I'd go so far and say it's one of the best looking games in that respect I've played so far. The contrasts, the colors, the details, everything's just fine. Assets have that certain sense of tangibility where they seem to be organically tied to the world even though there's copy and paste involved. Every time of day has a distinct mood to it.
Fighting, driving, looting and shooting is as fun as the first couple of hours. Upgrading your car (Die Rolla in my case) is very motivating. Did some sidequests, which were nice so far.

Minor gripes: The map gets really cluttered really quickly. Being able to filter icons would be very welcome. Also, as much as I like the driving physics, not being able to roll over is slightly disappointing. Wonder if they took it out because it was too frustrating to end up upside down after driving over a small rock or something.

I just had an amusing physics glitch. Max had harpooned the driver of an enemy car and the car was on fire, but not quite "dead" yet. I fumbled the buttons on my controller and accidentally fired the shotgun at the car, which was pushed backwards a bit and then it exploded.

When Max approached the spot where the car originally was, he was suddenly tossed into the air like another explosion had happened. He didn't take any damage, but got tossed into the air whenever he got close to that spot.

It looked hilarious. :D

So MGSV was my most anticipated game this year... And I have been playing Mad Max a lot more. Haven't had the time to properly dig into MGSV. This game was such a surprise for me, did not expect to enjoy it this much! Marathoning the trilogy and then fury road before this came out makes me ready for some wasteland justice!!!

So I started playing this the day it was released, and I'm pleasantly surprised! Finally a game based on a movie/franchise that actually does the source material justice! I don't know about you guys, but all the time that I've spent playing so far has just been in Jeet's Territory, there's just so much to do, this is the kind of game that Brutal Legend should have been.

The driving, the art design, the combat, the sound design, Chumbucket! it's all fantastic. I'm glad I bought this game on an impulse buy, the 40% off from GMG certainly helped. A couple glitches though, I seem to be permanently stuck with the quest headline "Find wire for Chum's buggy" even though I'm about 2 hours in, and the subtitles and the tutorials never appeared even though they were both applied before the game started. I had to look through keymapping to see what the fuck I was doing haha.

I ha e the same problem but instead I have "the dog's in bad shape" in the bottom of the screen.

Honestly Chumbucket is just a fantastically fun character and such a great information filter. There is a nuance there that isn't dont in many games with large built up fiction. His unveiling and explaining of the religion of the world makes it a little less weighty and a little easier to take in and learn about the world. I wish more games handled world building in that way.

I was afraid I wasn't going to like Chumbucket but he's turning out to be one of the more interesting characters I've come across in a videogame for quite a while.

Also, I went with the Wild Hunt car body because it looks the closest to that of the Pursuit Special.

Same. When I was watching the recent gameplay demos leading up to release I found Chumbucket annoying, and worried he'd be a distraction. Somehow, though, when playing the game he's actually an entertaining and surprisingly endearing character. Great job by Avalanche and the voice actor on hitting the right tone here.

Went with the "wild hunt" car build because like others have already said, it's the closest to matching the Interceptor.

Over 35 hours into the game and finally cleared the threat level of Jeet's territory 100%. I have only done five story missions thus far and three wasteland missions. At this rate, im looking at over 150 hours before I finish the game.

Once I get the thunderpoon, im going to be almost unstoppable since im close to being completely MAXed out. Hehehe.

A few tips for those who just started playing -

1 - Turn OFF the tutorials option in the settings menu. It eliminates the constant reminder of the buttons and controller icon popping up on the screen all the time.

2 - Before going into camps and whatnot, go to all the purple icons that have the "I" logo on them. That's intel and you can gather some good hints and tips as well as other advice for when going into camps.

3 - Complete the scrap crew upgrade in strongholds. This will allow you to collect all the scrap after car battles without getting out of your car.

4 - When going to Griffa, make sure that you're ready to use all the coins that you currently have. You can't exit out until the Griffa coins are at zero.

5 - For the minefields, you can only detect and disable them using Chum's buggy and the dog.

6 - After downloading the current patch, switch to the alternate controls options in the button configuration menu in the settings menu. This works better than the default setup and adds a handbrake.

7 - Driving an enemy car to your stronghold adds that car to your inventory. This also works for completing races as well but I haven't attempted a race thus far. Enemy scrap vans will give you 500 scrap if you drive and return it to your stronghold.

8 - When trying to get those mother loot crates during storms, while not easy to do, try to position the Magnum sideways with the crate behind it so you can get to the crate and use the Magnum as a shield for yourself. Loot crated contain 100 scrap in each one.

Hope these few tips help those who just started playing. Over 35 hours later and im still having an insane amount of fun playing this game and I still have an extremely long way to go. The only thing that sucks is that due to work, I won't be able to play until Sunday. :(

Just ran into my first gameplay bug, PS4 version. In the Dry Gustie section there is a scarecrow at the tip of the R in Dry on the map, you can see it when driving towards it, when I get close it disappears and just has a hanging corpse in the air, can't destroy it. Is this happening for anyone else? Also garage keeps saying there is new stuff when there isn't, also every time I start up the game the wrong bumper is installed.

Edit: Restarting the game seems to have fixed that first issue, others are not big deals, just annoyances.

Good tips. I would add that if you take the lead car of a convoy and drive it back to your stronghold you will _not_ win the convoy mission. In the sad case when I attempted it, I didn't get the car either, because it was "not a collectible car" (don't remember the exact wording, but a message like that popped up).

Shooting the big red tank at the back of convoy trucks is quite a thing.

So are the lightning storms. :0

I once yanked the guy driving the convoy truck out, shot the tanks behind it so they start spitting fire, boarded the truck and burned all the cars escorting the convoy as they chased behind me. The fire does ridiculous damage, couple of seconds facing the fire and they were done.

Taking a scrapulance back to my stronghold, end up limping on rims while on fire. So good.

Do they introduce the storms in a mission or are they truly random? Been playing for 5-7 hours, still having encountered one.

I'm having a lot of fun with this game. Not sure why some outlets decide to shit on it? This is by no means a bad game 2 hours in.

They're randomized.

I've encountered at least two. The first was when I was scavenging, and it came out of nowhere. The second -- which I've bemoaned -- came at the worst time possible, during a difficult mission.

Mine all appeared to be random. I can remember my first. I tried to raid a camp and was getting hailed by fireballs left and right while stuck in oil when of one hit. I didn't know it was coming until it almost hit and then BAM I was in this hellish experience. It was wild to say the least.

Honestly shocked Sterling only gave this a 4. It seemed like the game was growing on him from his Twitter timeline, but I guess not. Oh well, this seems like a "cult hit" in the making where it'll get terrible to mediocre reviews but the majority of consumers will enjoy it.

Had my first one happen while raiding a camp - the ones where you have to destroy the pumps. The fist fights looked awesome amongst all the debris. Helped that it was the one that overlooks a massive cliff edge with amazing vistas.

Second one happened in the valley with all the gorges - perfect cover from the storm AND there were a bunch of loot crates flying everywhere. I made 1,500 scrap from that one run. Would have made more if it wasn't for the stupid warboys who drove through and kept harassing me, forcing a few stops for repairs.

How do I upgrade the stronghold once I collect parts?
There are specific areas around the upper floor that have context sensitive prompts. They look like silhouettes of objects. Once you get all the pieces, just head over to one and activate it.
The blue transparencies are the ones ready to upgrade, yellow require more parts.

Does the attunement ability upgrade only affect the weapons you can pick up temporarily or does it also affect Max's fist damage?

I really enjoy this game but I expected that (I liked RAGE very much^^). I would really wish for a second RAGE that combines the wasteland and driving of Mad Max with id Software shooter mechanics. I would kill for that after I played both now.

Been adicted to this game for the past days. Has some pretty good things going for it. The only thing i'm not enjoying are those challenges. Some of them are simply impossible to complete, like the one about destroying cars by hitting their sides. I can't land a single one. :/ Anyone here did this one?

Pretty weird to see nobody on either PSN or Steam got all the trophies already. Seems like the one for challenges is the only one with 0.0%.

I really don't get the negative reception behind this game, I've been having silly fun with it. How come so many critics dislike it?

Honestly, I'm thinking they were possibly burnt out from MGSV. Going through that "bootcamp" event only to have yet another sandbox game to play.

Of course not all publications had 1 person do both just an idea.

What is poon?

Sounds vaguely lewd.
I took it as a reference to Snow Crash where the harpoons are called that. Maybe cos I just read it :p
This thread has sold me on the game, on my way to Target to pick it up. Looks great, and I'm a sucker for open world check lists.
