Madden [RENDERED] Next Gen is ON

animation looked meh and the colors looked washed out. :( not so impressed.

Exactly what I was thinking. The main thing I want to see improve next gen is the animation, and there wasn't anything at all special about the animation during that preview.

I thought it looked awful. The people moving didn't look like they were actual people moving. Everything seemed fake to me.

I think I need to see it again to really get a complete view on it though.

That looked way better (graphically) than any NFL game *I* have ever played, but of course it doesn't look like the best GC(no where near the Nike CG commercial IMO....WTF IGN??) and I would think it is doable on Xbox 360 and such....

Could you make a Football game like that on current gen consoles???

Well, noone has, so I have to say no...

Again, this is EA we are talking about, so imagine what dev houses like Team Ninja or Bungie could do....

my friends that had no idea it was coming on said "WTF was that... thats the shit that we see at the beginning of the game, where is the gameplay..." i said the same thing

LOL! Yeah...bland my ass. Compared to what exactly?

And I wouldn't expect any of the animations to even be mo-cap, much less final. Some of it looked hand-animated. I don't know what's sadder. That people aren't impressed by what are arguably incredible graphics, or that it's the same tired comments about gameplay footage. There isn't any finished hardware to speak of, so I think showing the cinematics (which showcase the graphics engine best) would be a better expenditure of advertising dollars. Besides which, in-game should look just as good, just with a more-distant cam. PEACE.

Eh, maybe it's more impressive on HDTV?

Most people dont have HDTVs though, so what do we care. I want it to look good on MY TV. I dont care about what it "could" look like.

Not final? IT'S FRIGGIN CG.

Jesus people, at least wait to blow your load until we've seen actual gameplay.

I don't even give a shit about the graphics. I just pray there are no major bugs this year.

The modeling is great, it's clearly well ahead of anything we've ever seen. But animation makes or breaks stuff like this, and the animation doesn't fit how high quality those characters are.

Nope. It wasn't. :D

And the poster earlier who said it reminded him of bad CG intro segments, was spot-on. What was EA thinking?

The official comments that the final product will be superior are laughable now.

I definitely was disappointed by seeing it in motion -- the stills were more impressive. Not to say I dont think the final product will be incredible, but this wasn't exactly what I expecting since the rumor was those were just artist interpretations or some such.

Klee, is it graphically better than what we have currently? Yes, of course it is but guess what? IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE! It's next-gen for god's sake. With all due respect, you make it sound as if this is impressive because it merely IS next-gen looking. I expect and demand a huge jump in performance if Sony and or Microsoft expects me to spend 300+ dollars on another system. You're completely ignoring the fact that the same old EA problems are still evident. First of all, the animation is severely lacking. It didn't look smooth at all. Someone already posted it but it literally looked like next-gen graphics with this gen animation. Everything had a washed out look. Plus I still think EA sucks at player models. Just shitcan Tiburon and hire the VC team already!

As it is, it comes across more as a badly done cgi commercial than a great looking video game. This was nothing but a smoke and mirror show. As usual, game companies INSIST on showing us footage that is not at all representative of a real in-game situations.

Of course, I'm sure this commercial fooled all the casual 'tards that don't know any better which, as we all know, is EA's bread and butter.

bland compared to almost all other CG out there? even if it wasnt gameplay it looks as if they used a color palette mirroring say something from xb or ps2 versus something you'd see in a dreamworks CG film or a CG commercial the nike commercial has mre vivid color. huge mistake IMO.

One thing I found intresting is the fact that this exact shot:

madden.jpg

Is in the ad (its animated, too)

Which means that parts of this ad is very very old.....that pic was released last November....so it is possible this "ad" is actually that rumored in-house concept video EA shows at project meetings....

I'm a huge Madden fan...but let's be honest. That commercial was underwhelming, by a pretty large margin. And I seriously hope they don't use that injury thing, that would more be effort wasted on useless nonsense like create-a-fan.

Like I said, I don't think animation would be final in concept renders. And some of it definitely looked hand-animated with kinda unnatural libm movement. It looks like what I expect. I think the lighting and geometry levels alone are gonna make this a night and day difference. With a distant camera, and the vastly improved lighting, in-game should look as close to real life as we've seen to date. Animation transitions will probably still be "disjointed" but that's not exactly the easiest thing to remedy. I'd rather they worked more on the mechanics than fine-tuning transition animations.

That's still the most important thing, waiting to see how they use all this power to actually improve the game. Isn't it time we got autonomous AIs for each player on the field? I'm tired of my secondary playing like blind morons. PEACE.

I dunno, maybe it's just me, but that was pretty good. If the next gen games look like that, (at launch, not near the end of the cycle where hardware limitations are expected to be pushed) I can easily say I'll be happy. Now where's the video?

The animation looked worse than whats in the current madden games. Would it have been that hard to apply those animations to those models?

Such a big deal was made of it that I was expecting EA to put their best foot forward. Don't be mad at me because it was a let down.

I thought that maybe there were lots of impressive little details that didn't come across on my regular-old-definition TV. But Goreomedy doesn't think so... d'oh!
