Mafia: The Old Country |OT| Chuck Berries grown in Sicily

I really liked Babylons Fall. 9/10 for me.

Between Chuck Berry Chuck Berry myself and rofif rofif , we form the 3 horsemen of Down syndrome.

Also what did Rofif do to get banned? 😂

He went a little too far in smashing the death of the guy that created Elder Scrolls. I think he was on thin ice anyway though.

Edit: Now I'm the only Forspoken fan here :messenger_pensive:

Played some more. I think I'm halfway through Ch. 2.

It's a beautiful game - beautiful scenery and landscapes. Sometimes I want to just stop and look. I like the era, too - 1904 Sicily. I am not very familiar with it, so I'm learning a bit as I go.

I like the characters, too. They have their own personalities. It's nothing deep, but it's well done. The dialog is funny sometimes, too, in that Italian way.

Read about a forced stealth section, is it just once or more? And are there at least checkpoints or nah?

As for base consoles Xbox Series X and PS5, how does performance mode look visually? Crisp enough and minimal graphical fidelity sacrifice? And resolution/quality mode, visually a big difference compared to performance mode.

Last but not least, how stable is the 30fps and 60fps?

So far I have encountered a couple, but these are so easy that even a monkey could pass them without issues. And yes from what I have read, there are many checkpoints during those situations

Me too, but I'm aiming to plat this one so I'm rocking on Hard. Can't wait to get my ass kicked. This series can be pretty brutal on harder difficulties.

hmm, i wonder if i can switch to hard now . . . i'm at the beginning of chapter 2.
I guess i could replay what i've done so far if I have to.

For those on the fence:

If you like gangster movies, story and character driven games, the Mafia franchise, you enjoy gaming as an experience instead of the modern gaas shit trends, this game for this price is a steal! Seriously, I only played about 1 hour and I'm in love already. Can't recommend it enough if any of the above is true for you.

Amazon says my copy won't be here till tomorrow. I'll just live through you guys until then while playing Destiny because I hate myself.

If OP wants, here's the ps5 pro break down people will care about:

Quality mode
Performance mode
Ability to turn v sync on and off

On pro if you turn off v sync on quality mode with a VRR TV then you'll be at 60 fps 99% of the time. Small hiccups very rarely. The issue? Some kind of bug seems to exist in certain lighting that causes flickering on screen.

If you turn off on your console VRR, or you turn v sync on, then unfortunately the game is a choppy looking 30FPS and not a smooth 30. Likely a frame pacing issue.

Performance mode seems flawless, but you sacrifice shadows it seems. They get a dithering effect that's pretty noticeable.

No matter which mode you pick though the game is absolutely stunning.

I am going the screen flickering route for now, since it only happened in one area so far. If it persists I'll go performance mode until a fix occurs.

Definitely worth picking up for PS5 pro.

Prologue so far is VERY good from a story, dialogue, characters, music, visuals perspective. However, it is slow and lacking gameplay which is common for story driven games these days from the jump. Expect a slower ramp up.

Yep. It's shit :messenger_tears_of_joy:

To even think this is anywhere near the wizardy of the original illusion softworks team is downright insulting..

Mafia
Hidden and Dangerous 1/2
Vietcong..

For this game to be getting semi high praise just says it all 🤷‍♂️

bro I already finished it and its so fucking bad.

Legit would say its worse than mafia 3

I liked Mafia 3 though 👀

Another series tie in. This is fucking great.

Chapter 1

On the Don's guest list is Leo Galante. Obviously going to be a very young Leo.

Thanks, Arsic. I'll paste it into the OP.

Really heavy game. I had to turn on framegen, because i slipped below 60 sometimes on 5070ti 1440p max settings and DLSS4 balanced
Wait.. what? I have 4070Ti and at EPIC 4k/Performance settings I had ~60fps. Which I'm not happy about since only UE5 games keep tanking this hard at 4K / DLSS performance...
But anyway after switching up at 1440p High with Quality DLSS it's easily way far above 60 I guess 80-10 range, though indeed framegen is very nice here to push it even more. Only problem I had is the stuttering when going in and out of gameplay/cutscene.

The game is exactly what I was expecting. As a true mafia game, the story is inspired by the best gangster films, and the detailed world makes you feel as if you are really there in the early 1900s. I really enjoy driving (especially with realistic car handling settings) and just looking at beautiful Italian vistas. The graphics are good, too (UE5). As for performance, I cant complain. Stuttering isnt a problem unlike many other UE5 games and on my PC (7800X3D, 4080S) I get 50-75fps with default settings (everything on epic except for shadows at high) at 4K DLSSQ, and 100-120fps with FGx2. With high settings preset I get 10-15fps more and the game runs between 62-85 (average is around 75fps). I also tried the DLSS performance mode with FGx2, achieving around 150–160 fps. Aiming felt extremely smooth, and the image still looked sharp and 4K-like.

Okay, this will sound hyperbolic, but this might be my game of the generation so far. What can I do, I'm a sucker for this type of games and we barely had something like this in this gen with such beatiful visuals that are worthy of this gen. But of course it's not only about the visuals but the immersion that comes together by every aspect of the game. The music, the sounds, the voice acting, the characters, the cinematography, everything. I feel like I'm playing the main role in a great gangster movie. And I know cinematic games is a joke for many on gaf, but I couldn't care less, I'm glad we still have some devs who make games like this. You can see when a game is made with love and not just as something to make money. And this game is one of the cheapest AAA games. Ridiculous, in a good way.

Enzo is so fucking cool man. The Don just gives me goosebumps every scene he is in.

Loving this game in a lot of the same ways KCD2. It just sells its world and characters so well.

Was really looking forward to this but I haven't bought it yet for some reason.

I don't care for stealth and really don't like "vision" mechanics. How forced are those things?

I don't mind the game being easy, linear or "short." Pretty much here for the story and overall experience.

Loved the first two games. Never finished the third but it was off to a decent start.

Going to jump in as you all convinced me. I don't like forced Stealth and PC performance seems a bit suspect, but hell, I loved the first two games. I love the setting and I am a huge fan of mobster movies and shows.

Played a few hours and it's way better than I expected from what they showed pre-released.

I've liked all 3 previous games though so i'm glad this one is great.

Also very happy Hangar 13 had another chance. For all the shit Mafia III got, there was a lot of good that many overlooked because of the lack of mission design and repetitiveness, this fixes all of that.

After 3 chapters I'm liking it very much. Sure it's very cinematic and sometimes you don't do a lot of stuff except for following your companions, but I don't mind. I like Enzo and most of the other characters, story seems very good so far and I love Sicily. It's only a shame that the game is very quick with displaying a warning about leaving the mission area, hopefully there will be freeroam after the story.

Gunplay is satisfying as hell. Again, reviewers not knowing what the fuck they're talking about.

If you enjoyed shooting fools in 3, you're gonna love this.

Also, congrats to Hangar 13 for raising the bar for weapon wheels.

No longer in your face and big plastered in the middle of the screen

It's now kept in the lower left. Unintrusive and classy as fuck.

Yeah , I loved the gunplay in 3. How are the blood effects? In the official gameplay I felt it seemed too clean, lack of blood. Is there blood on the ground and also on baddies after you gun them down?

And would you say the AI is good enough? Do they try to flank you and shit?

AI is decent on Hard. There was definitely a pool of blood after I did a knife takedown.
