Mafia: The Old Country | The Game Awards 2024 Initiation Trailer

I'm remarkably hyped by this trailer, Mafia is such an underrated series.
Legit my most anticipated game shown tonight, Mafia and Mafia 2 are all timers for me.

Wish Vávra was doing this, but I trust these guys after the recent Remake. Wonder what happened to that incredible engine they used there..

From what I've seen it's a UE game but don't know for sure yet.

Not a girlboss in sight. Day one
Yeah.. this is the game protagonist I need in 2025.

There's apparently a chance it could be their own Fusion Engine.

And I wish that's the case so bad.

I think they will deliver with this. Mafia remake was good and it appears to have grounded the studio with the right attitude of what a Mafia game should look like.

Still need to play Mafia III though it's in my library. Absolutely loved the remake of 1 and remaster of 2 those games were absolute bangers. I'll absolutely be supporting this title the setting really looks like it's going to keep the series flesh.

I think it's very cool that we only get one truly new Mafia title per generation (not counting remasters/remakes),

Do yourself a favour and skip it. The most repetitive Ubisoft open world style game I've ever played.

Ok, that looks terrific! The Mafia Definitive Edition was a welcome surprise to play through, really loved my time with it. Kinda hyped for this.

I've heard it's a low point in the franchise but I am a completionist. God help me. And I endured the ultra-repetitiveness of the Jimmy's Vendetta DLC for Mafia II. I unlocked every trophy in the game including all the DLC ones. The DLC ones took as long as the core game. I'm a glutton for punishment.

Probably the game I'm most interested in at the TGA. Pretty unique setting, at least as far as videogames go, and these guys know how to craft a compelling story.

Do we know if this will be more linear like Mafia 1 and less like a dreadful Ubisoft open world style game?

If that's the case, consider me interested.

Setting and story wise it's the game i liked the most this show, reminds me of scenes from The Godfather movies that took place in Sicily iirc.

Might be the first video game i'll play in sicilian or whatever dialect if it available, ever since i watched Gomora and Suburra (different dialect i know) I'm in love with all of those languages.

This looks really damn good. I got a Red Dead Redemption II vibe out of it, which is an amazing compliment if you ask me.

Sounds exactly like Mafia: Definitive Edition. Linear, but open.

To reach your next target or make a hurried getaway, you'll need to gallop on horseback across cobbled streets and open fields, or speed down dirt roads in authentic turn-of-the-century automobiles.

It is indeed available, and they apparently put a lot of effort into it.

It is UE5
Oh well.. thanks for sharing.

Wish we'll get at least a current gen 60fps port of Mafia: DE then, one last use of that extremely promising engine.

Not particularly amazing trailer, but it still managed to be the best one of the TGAs.

The game does look great, but I wish it was not UE5 and I wish it was about Ennio Salieri instead of new character. I wonder if any OG Mafia characters will be in any way included. I was looking forward to Ennio befriending Frank.

Oh well..
Still, if they give you a horse or a car I imagine I'll spend far more time exploring the landscapes of Sicily than Empire Bay.

I like the themes, the setting and the aesthetic of the game.
That's... Pretty much all I can comment on right now. I just hope for the gameplay to be equally good.

No open world and a fully linear story are great news. It's going to be a day 1 purchase for me if they don't fuck anything up. I loved Mafia 1 Remake even if I was a bit sad it didn't get any next-gen upgrades.

I like the world being a setting and not a playground like mafia 1 and 2. I'm completely okay with that, 3 was hurt by it because the gameplay and story didn't feel like it meshed in the way a mafia should.

Looking forward to this. I thought the 1 remake was excellent.

Mafia 1 already did that

I disagree. Mafia was essentially a level based game made to look like it was an open world. You're in a gorgeous world that was just begging to be explored, but you couldn't explore it. You did your mission and boom, the level's over.

Mafia 2 had that open world. It felt more alive. The music was better, the cars were better, and the overall period was better. The transition of time was very well handled. For me it's still the best Mafia game.
