Magic: the Gathering |OT4| Izzet Me; Izzet You? A Love Story

The Cube community was crazy on Kolaghan's Command when it was spoiled (I cut Murderous Redcap and I love Redcap :( ), nice to see it's also good in constructed. Lots of value at instant speed.
The Modern metagame is looking nice.

Redcap really is only good in Peasant cubes; it's just too low power for normal cubes. Kolaghan's Command is pretty sick.

By the time I was ready to invest in Pod it was already too close to banning. I'm glad I never bought in, though, the pieces are being used in Company decks now. So I guess it wouldn't have been all bad.

I had more than half the goddamn deck built when the ban hit. Thankfully I had not bought the more pricey pieces yet, such as the Hierarchs.

It's worries like that where I take a step back and debate whether or not I want to invest in Modern. I have most of Twin but should I buy the other pieces if a ban is coming within a year? It just makes me nervous that each time there's a best deck Wizards eventually lobs off its head.

Nah it's good, it kills a lot of creatures in my cube (both trading and CITP), but I prefer Command 100%. Fits Rakdos decks much better.

It's just the least impressive (IMO) in the lineage of Nekrataal and FTK. It's fine, but in a normal cube environment is not more than that.

I really want Collected Company to pick up steam, because that means more Melira's, and thus less infect decks.

That deck is stupid, and there are zero ways to ban it out of the format unless you want to go scorched earth, Standard Affinity style and just ban every single creature with infect.

I play 4 maindeck Spellskites in my Affinity deck now. It seems like any tournament I play in is 75% Burn. I've also done some experimentation with running fewer blue cards (less Masters, no Thoughtcasts), and running 4x Thoughtsieze in the main deck, wtth the 17th land being a Swamp instead of an Island, which was actually working really well until it went against burn.

Yeah, I started to notice more and more Spellskites. Somebody ITT dropped Twisted Image as tech, and they were 100 percent correct. I have 4 in the board, because Spellskite just wrecks my shit and I'm paranoid.

Seth Manfield's "Top 10 Decks In Modern:"

In a case of "I called it" (alongside a number of people), take the Tarmogoyf out of RUG Twin, replace it with Tasigur, and keep the black splash light. Presto; apparently you have the best deck in Modern.
I'm short a Snapcaster and the two Cryptic Commands to be able to put that Grixis Twin deck together. I guess I'm missing the Scalding Tarns too but I have enough fetches to make things work.

Twin and Burn are useful to play against given that any viable Modern deck has to be prepared to stop a T4 infinite combo or survive 20 damage by T4. It's a convenient benchmark to build for.

The one Modern deck I'd love to build is Dredgevine. The only thing that holds me back is that it isn't particularly good and very inconsistent. I'm not about to pay close to $80 for a set of Vengevines when the deck isn't too tournament worthy. Burn is one of it's worst matchups too, so while it has a few answers to stall or outrace Twin it generally seems to fall to Burn pretty easily.
dat feel when I built grixis twin and everybody told me UR was better
A lot of people were jamming Thoughtseizes and Inquisitions in Twin, and that plan just wasn't working. It turns out that if you just use the black for Tasigur over Tarmogoyf, plus some value spells (Terminate/Kolaghan's Command/etc), you're fine. Most Grixis Twin lists in the past thought that hand disruption was the way to go, but that was wrecking the mana base.

Id be curious for a better deckbuilder than me to try a Blood Moon Twin deck- it seems like it would be possible, as UR twin already plays the card in it's sideboard. You can run a lot of basic Islands in the deck (Jelger played 10 in his PT deck), but it seems like more of a win-more type card (It's great against Amulet, but the deck naturally has a good Amulet matchup).

The list in the post had the exact same mana as mine, and ran disruption like I did. You only need 3 black sources that don't come from fetchlands.

He runs Cryptic Commands, though. Bleh.

Clearly you just need to believe in yourself and start playing more Modern GPs (and be willing to play Cryptics :).

Modern is the format I'm most confident in understanding and also the one I least enjoy playing. The only thing keeping me from dismantling my Grixis Twin deck immediately is the Modern PPTQ season, and I might still do it anyway.

It's like a less dynamic Standard meets a less interactive Legacy. Boom, Modern. If you like dropping bombs, have I got a format for you.

What are you talking about? I didn't use other people's Grixis Twin deck to build mine if that's what you mean. Unless you see other Twin lists with zero cryptics and a full set of hand disruption running around. And I don't know what the other times you're talking about are.

I believe you, I just wanted to post that GIF

Totally real leaked deleted scene from the Jace and Ral Uncharted Realms story (taken from here)
"Damn it, Jace, it's not the same," he said. He turned back to his vigil of the opposite alleyway, but he put a hand on Beleren's wrist and squeezed.

"Ral?"

"Yeah?"

"That's the first time you've called me anything but 'Beleren.'"

"Hm." Ral turned back to Jace with a smile on his face "I can't help it Jace-senpai, I've grown quite fond of you"

Jace turned a shade of red that contrasted quite well with his blue tunic. He looks nice in Izzet colors, Ral thought to himself. Suddenly Ral leaned in and kissed Jace, for the Izzet are as impulsive in love as they are in science. Jace was shocked at first before returning the kiss.

"Follow my spark" Jace growled "I know just the place we should go..." and he faded from view, Ral vanished right after him.

Also, you don't want to be doing anything but setting yourself up or holding up mana in the first few turns.

I can't really figure out what the deal is with people on MODO who pass you Long-Forgotten Gohei, multiple nameless inversions, multiple Waxmane and then apparently cut all the common Soulshift spirits. Like, what in the actual fuck?

That was the revelation, so to speak, about Grixis Twin. Early builds were focused on setting up a quick combo; so you would spend turns 1/2 with Thoughtseize and Serum Visions, hoping to clear the way for T3/4 Exarch/Twin. That plan was just...bad. The old UR Boomerang lists were more effective at early combos than those lists.

Also, I really miss when playing 4x Boomerang in Twin was actually a viable approach.

Went to the GP here in Utrecht.

+ 4x Windswept Heath
+ 2x Promo Hero of Bladehold (for my sideboard)
+ 1x Path to Exile

- 1x Foil Windswept heath + 5 euros

Pretty damn happy so far. Gonna see if I can do some trading tomorrow for 2x Inquisition of Kozilek and perhaps a thoughtseize.

Literally just 2 Daybreak Coronet

, which are rapidly becoming as worthless as the deck its played in.

Don't buy sealed product even if you like gambling kiddies! (Boy am I glad my wife just got that new job!)

Goddamn Grimace, that's the worst box I have ever heard of. You poor bastard.

I'm setting the box on fire after work for catharsis.

My other box was 10 billion times better despite having a Comet Storm in it.

It really is best to quit while you are ahead when it comes to cracking packs.
Still good advice.

That's why I haven't opened my MM2015 box yet. Undecided between trying to get a draft together at cost or just selling it and buying something else with that money.

My line of thinking in this situation is always:

The person I sell to will be so happy to get that Goyf and foil Goyf.
But if I open it there will be nothing but butts
.

I hate boxes.

They sold 13 of that?! Apparently I need to start selling budget decks on Ebay. That deck looks pretty bad tbh but at least you're looking to play with the best color.
Fuck Blue

If you're really set on a budget black deck there are some better mono black warriors decks floating around. Tolarian Community College even had a video on one that I think is considerably better. It'll probably run you a bit more (price it out on TCGPlayer) but I think you'd end up with something that would be more competitive at least.

If you like money, sell the box. If you like gambling, sell the box and go to the local casino to play blackjack.

I will say I have never seen that level of jank in any box I've ever opened. Like holy shit that is a lot of jank. The part that's bothering me the most is that there weren't even any Faerie tokens for my BW deck to use. Like really? I mean, the really gross part was that there was barely anything interesting for EDH decks even.

Good advice. Honestly the first deck in the Perilous Research article Sigma posted looks good and is kind of sort of cheap.

Creature (27)
4 Blood-Chin Fanatic
4 Bloodsoaked Champion
4 Den Protector
4 Heir of the Wilds
1 Merciless Executioner
2 Nighthowler
4 Satyr Wayfinder
2 Sidisi, Undead Vizier
2 Tasigur, the Golden Fang

Sorcery (4)
1 Commune with the Gods
3 Thoughtseize

Instant (4)
3 Hero's Downfall
1 Murderous Cut

Enchantment (1)
1 Palace Siege

Land (24)

3 Forest
3 Jungle Hollow
4 Llanowar Wastes
2 Mana Confluence
7 Swamp
4 Temple of Malady
1 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
60 Cards

Sideboard (15)

1 Palace Siege
2 Bile Blight
1 Dictate of Erebos
2 Duress
2 Hornet Nest
3 Minister of Pain
1 Reclamation Sage
3 Self-Inflicted Wound

You can definitely make some budget conscious changes to this and have a similar build, but it's probably worth spending a little money on some of these cards in the long run.

What's the pick? Pack 2 Pick 1:

sarkeezybmpgb.png

All three uncommons are great for my deck, and it's possible all three will wheel.

My pick:
I went with the Swiftblade hoping to wheel Dispatch. I definitely need more creatures for the deck at this point, and cheap creatures are a premium for the equipment deck.

My final deck

If this is a phantom event, Blinding Souleater seems to be the obvious choice to me.

The best two cards in the pack are Nameless Inversion then Blinding Souleater.

RW Equipment is better than it looks, actually. I was surprised how decent it was when I went for it.

My first round opponent had three inversions and an Elesh Norn. >:-|
Second round was on mono bounce spells and Electrolyzes >:-|

Anyway, that's the last of my phantom points from ROE flashbacks. At least I got to unequip Sunforger for value a couple times.
