Cool- east coast GAF take pics!

I remember the year my college closed due to a 3 ft blizzard. Gf and I wandered through drifts to drink irish coffee and see a movie.

I'm tending to notice in my social feeds people who are most excited for snow live in apartments, a big metro or don't need to rely on a car. While the people a bit more stressed are those who drive often or live in houses.

You just noticed this now?

Of course, I love snow regardless.
But, the 3 hours I spent shoveling out the driveway at my wife's parents' house a couple of years back so I could get to work because no cabs were running and the car was trapped wasn't particularly enjoyable >.>

As someone who lives in an apartment, I agree haha. I really have nothing to lose by being in a storm.

You dig your own grave.

You have no right to complain about mother nature if you made the choice to rely on a car.

Although to be fair, my new apartment is all electric, which means if I lose power I cant cook :/

It's very true that in situations like this big cities are 1000x better than suburbs (NYC vs LI).

I can walk to the grocery store still

Cars are awesome when you lose power. Heat and phone charging. I have a generator, thankfully.

Hold up, am I reading that right? 2-3 feet is actually back on the table for NYC? Shiiiieeeeeeeet.

Just got the call to close up shop at 1PM. Something tells me the 4/5/6 lines are going to be even more of a pain in the ass going back to the Bronx.

Long Island GAF checking in (Suffolk Co in the house). Light snow since 9, winds have been gusting. It's cold out there. I decided to take off from work today and tomorrow. Just went to ShopRite which was a friggin zoo right now.

Also 95S is going to hell in a hand basket starting in Darien. Good luck NY/CT commuters.

It's not the snow. It's the soccer moms.

Yea, I think we can expect an early MTA shutdown

I had deep hatred of snow when I lived in a house. Now I just hate it due to the hassle it created during a commute.

Question is how early. I heard by evening rush hour (5-7pm). In any case, I'm not staying here longer than 3pm. Weaker storms have doubled the commute time. What's coming today will paralyze trains if they continued running.

Generators save lives on the East Coast, that's for sure. I once had no power for 6 days.

Yeah for Sandy I lost power for 6 days, but fortunately my old apartment had a gas water heater and gas stove. So I spent the day at work (even though it was closed) using their power and still smelt nice and fresh.

My current place is all electric, so I should invest in cologne.

We lost it for 10(?), but our hot water heater was gas so we could at least shower. It was ok until the final 2-3 days when temps started dropping a lot.

Yeah that sucked for me too. Gas heat, but with no power, the thermostat wouldnt tell it to turn on.

Idiotic design.

And every day was colder than the previous day :(

Ha yeah, or as we say up here, you can always roll in the snow!

storm was a total bust in pennsylvania capitol region. forcasted to be 5-9 inches, we got barely 2 and the clouds have now lifted to a higher altitude which means no snow anytime soon

Wow what a fuckin downgrade lol

Love those Smith girls

No kidding. I lived right off the center of town (Kingsley Ave., which is off of Pleasant, which is off of Main), so everything was walking distance. I loved it.

Around here, it's like half a mile to the nearest bus stop, with nothing along the way, and the bus doesn't even go anywhere useful. Sucks.

My mother went to Smith >.>

Not snowing too bad where I am. There's maybe two inches accumulation but the roads barely have any. Of course, it's still snowing, though, so...

More Connecticut GAF checking in (Hamden). I worked from home today, since I didn't want to deal with traffic this afternoon. Probably just as well since they are closing down our office at 1:00. I was supposed to travel up to New Hampshire tomorrow night for a business meeting on Wednesday, but I have to imagine that is going to be cancelled and pushed out into next month.

Also, these storms do make me appreciate that my apartment complex has underground power lines leading to it from the substation. I never lost power during Sandy or any previous blizzard, so not too worried about this one.
