The panels are always really good really complements the anime well. I kind of got a bit emotional at the end because I already know whats coming. Really concerned what new tidbits will be added and if it continues beyond the ending of the anime. It would be nice.

Also rather bloody chapter and brutal, firing shots on unarmed innocents :(

I have been reading High School DxD light novel since yesterday. It feels like a derivative harem anime but it's not really boring and got a fun male lead. Plus I want to see how you can milk this concept for over 10 books.

One problem I have is with the writing. It feels so stiff and mechanical. Could be that light novel writers are just hacks, but it's probably cause the translators and editors aren't professionals or experienced enough to translate something smoothly. Oh well, not a big deal, I'm fine with just being able to read what's happening.

Probably. I tried reading, I think it was Nisio's Monogatari series, and the translations seemed the same way. I kind of wish we got more LN published over here, 'cause I'd definitely read them.

Man, I love this comic. It's got good laughs and the fights are just interesting enough to actually keep me interested in how they play out. It would be the greatest thing if Oga beats Tojou again while in costume as the bad guy.

Kono S o, Mi Yo

A manga about a man with a weird tattoo birthmark on his ass that will make any women seeing it feels an irresistible urge to have sex with him.

Seems like a plot for a cheap porn/hentai work but as it turns out, it is the basis for a surprisingly touching and emotionally-driven manga. Very satisfying to read, with a consistent and pleasing art to boot. Recommending this to anyone looking for a good and highly original romantic-comedy series to be enjoyed.

The problem with Kono S o, Mi Yo is that the stigma's power doesn't really go as far as you'd expect, (or want) or at least it hasn't yet.

Really though, Bakuman's been over for almost two months now, we should replace in the OP with something else; might as well use Minamoto-kun.

Welcome to the party, Banana. Also check out Kitazaki's otherwork!

Kono S vol 10 was pretty amusing and a little painful to read being a guy.

A fair amount of light novels feel that way when i am reading them .
As you said it's fine that i get to read some of them .
DxD is fun and gets better on with later vols , i just wish they translated them in order even thought i read part of vol 10 .
Which reminds me i should finish reading Index soon .

Hey, it's still up to survivor or a mod to make the change; that's just a suggestion. Are there any other series that seem to be in the current top 10 most read though?

I mean, we already have TLR-D up there.

In support of published manga, I grabbed the first volume of The Flowers of Evil put out by Vertical and the first thing I noticed is that it's filled with moiré. It's not as painful looking as what I got when I bought the Italian edition of I Am a Hero (which made me drop it right there) but still, disappointing.

That's terrible. :( I am a Hero deserves so much better. Easily surpassed Walking Dead in terms of best ongoing Zombie series for me. (I wish I could say the english situation was better but unbelievably it's still unlicensed.)

Minamoto-kun it is, I'm not putting that other garbage.

I will do the change after E3 since I gotta reorganize the order of the pics and I suck at using pixlr (yeah I don't have photoshop)

Otoyomegatari

Oh wow, this is a really nice period piece about the nomads of central asia. Love the artwork too.

Are there any other manga like this which focuses on a a rarely explored culture/time?

Emma (same author) in the Victorian period is close. Chrno Crusade is in the 1920s but is of course a fantasy piece. That's all I can think of right now.

Well, apart from the author's other work (most notably Emma, a fictional maid's story set in the end of 1900's London)...

Cesare by Fuyumi Souryo (ES, MARS)
The Borgias have had a lot of media coverage lately from TV (The Borgias) and Games (Assassin's Creed) but she tells a really interesting and more practical/mechanical tale of Cesare Borgia and life in his time period. (Late 1400s)

Historie by Hitoshi Iwaaki
Similar in tone to Cesare, although this actually covers the life of Eumenes in the time of Alexander the Great and the Macedonians. There is quite a bit of political intrigue but also a lot about the inner details of daily life in that time. (Starts at around 343BC)

Vinland Saga by Makoto Yukimura (Planetes)
It starts historically grounded although maybe not as firmly planted as the two above. Nonetheless, you get an interesting story of Vikings in around 1013-1018AD.

Vagabond by Takehiko Inoue (Slam Dunk)
Not a lot is known about the historical figure Musashi Miyamoto (1640+AD Japan) but this manga is it's own take on a popular fictional book about Musashi's life - giving it authenticity in scene to make up for the gaps in detail of his life.

There are others that are worth looking at that play with History but are by necessity not the truth (Billy Bat, Ooku, for instance)

Angry Grimace

Two cannibals are eating a clown. One turns to the other and says "does something taste funny to you?"

Vagabond also has incredible artwork.

They should totally make a Tomb Raider manga. Lara Croft is a good waifu, strong, smart and kicks ass

You should totally join #AnimeGAF, everyone cool is discussing E3 there. >.>

Lovely Complex idunno - 51
Well, it's kind of refreshing to not have characters that act retarded ALL the time, like a certain town where idiots live.
I had hoped that the focus would shift to college life, but well, with this few chapters left I'm not expecting much...
Also, it's funny how they find a 170cm-tall girl to be "HUGE". Japan I guess.

Maybe I should read this.

DO IT

NOW

Well, it's definitely better than KNIM. Overall the romance isn't as suffocating as you could fear, and the faces the female MC makes at times are really funny.

Edit : Also the manga is set in Osaka, so the characters technically have a different accent from Tokyo. Watching the anime is worth this alone.

I'll tell you in one word what makes Lovely Complex great against the sea of terrible romcom and shoujo out there. Believability.

Yes, the characters don't act like adults or 4 years old, but teenagers.

And, well, the premise short guy/tall woman is something everyone has seen once / thought about.

It's still gag-like and the premise would not be made such a big deal IRL. But it is believable as a manga. Like the characters act like they would in that setting or at least appear to. Definitely not realistic but believable. And believability in shoujo...just never happens...ever. /EVER
I've already mentally detached from most shitty modern blockbuster games. DmC is just another one on the list. It's just that it's listed in blood...
