How are we defining better?

From a story perspective childhood friend usually works better and is a far stronger cliche then transfer student.
But the childhood friend always loses.

Childhood promise is pretty strong, if it went head to head with transfer student I genuinely wouldn't know what would happen.

My goodness. This is one of the cutest things I've read in a long time.

And this is coming from a fan of Horimiya. I need more of this.

Since everyone and their mothers in mangas/animes have childhood friends... I need to ask, is childhood friends truly a phenomena often happening in real Japanese society?

Because by golly, it ain't like that where I live.

Does anyone know of a harem manga where the MC guy actually chooses a girl early but the other girls don't give up on him? Like seriously most harem mangas would stop being stale if someone innovated and did that. Probably wouldn't sell is the problem.

Holy shit, fuck his mother. What a bitch. It's almost comical how terrible she is, if it didn't make me angry for dragging this out for so long. At least it gives an excuse to show how broken Ryo is post-breakup. It's cliched, but at least I know she wants to be with Asuka just as much as he wants to be with her.

Sword Art Online

..... >.> Damn bro you had to go there. But I'm talking manga and not Light Novels.

I guess Mahouka koukou no rettousei works but thats another light novel. Heck plenty of light novels actually do this lol.

But I'm thinking more along the lines that the MC struggles with choosing a girl and picks one and the fallout he has to deal with. Every author avoids it for the most part. Even SAO where Gary Stu ends up with Mary Stu skips the other girls reaction for the most part. Cousin incest not counting as he shot that down pretty hard.

KNIM does something like that (I'm like 20 chapters in and its building that way)

Rosario to Vampire is pretty much this.

I knew I recognized it. Thanks. That show was funny sometimes.

All my friends here seemed to have met their long term boyfriends/girlfriends or wives/husbands in high school or later. I'm no childhood friend expert, though.

Rage town? I read that and no that is not what I'm looking for when I mention MC struggling with his choice. Haruto is a scumbag who pulled off stupid crap and the author added more drama to pad the manga.

Rosario to Vampire is pretty much this.

I wish bro but Tsukune never asked out Moka directly and told the other harem members that he chose Moka as his girl.

I have to be here to keep an eye on all of you, or you go crazy: talking about cannibalism, your favorite smut, Nisekoi, ranking Nisekoi girls, and other gross things.

I was just saying you had great timing but that sounds acceptable too.

Well you gotta be caught up in the latest in super interesting darkness.

I guess?!

Isn't Ai Yori Aoshi (and even Umi no Misaki) this? Granted, it's been forever since the former and the latter just takes harem route eventually.

He seemed to make it pretty damn clear to me, and repeatedly told the others that it was Moka that he'd chosen.

Seemed and confirmed is two different things sadly. While Tsukune did show more affection and paid more attention to Moka compare to the rest, he never did say he chose Moka or confessed to her.

The comedy gold mine from Kurumu and Mizore trying to break up Moka and Tsukune to Yukari trying to have a threesome would be amplified if Tsukune and Moka actually went out. Would be nice to Tsukune struggle a bit as tensions rose between his GF Moka and his two good friends who each wants to be his GF and the resulting strain on all their friendship.

One of the main problems is that Tsukune was willing and so was Moka but neither confessed aka most harem manga MCs with crushes.

I thought for sure he was going to do it after the Summer break with the Siren senpai but that was a failure.

Oh well maybe I'll find it eventually.

Hayate 441

Hayate's brother finally appears in a chapter that isn't a flashback. I'm looking foward to him interacting with the cast, it should be fun even if though has amnesia.

Which is the better cliche.

I can't decide if it's the transfer student or the childhood friend.
Childhood friend is often the annoying genki archetype while transfer student tends to be less overt, more level-headed, mysterious and interesting. Plus I'm 95.72% sure Kurumi is a transfer student. So it's an absolute no-contest.

you have to give Onizuka props though since he made Noburu find his balls
True but he could have given Kunio a push like he did with Noboru and Kikuchi.

I really liked that final moment where Onizuka basically
rises again to do his job
and while you can say "sure it would happen because he's the MC" he just fucking owned it in a way compared to the other times i've seen the trope play out
That's also true and I was glad Fujisawa had ended the series right after that, anymore and it would have become comical, although a little more conclusion to some of the recurring characters would also have been nice.

Lives 1-10 (END)

Lackluster post-apocalyptic survival story in which the remnants of humanity are somehow gifted with the ability to transform into Digimon rejects. Its short length and weak characterisation made it virtually impossible to care for the cast, meaning their life-or-death struggles were more hilarious than anything else. The design of many of the 'monsters' didn't help either.

Such a waste of a good pairing :(

lol I was just joking but Onizuka x porn stash really happened, poor Azusa. Didn't really feel the final arc, crazy kid was just delusional. Like Onizuka said, so bad things happened in your past, tough shit, get over yourself, same for the wannabe mastermind, who was never really in control of the situation. The Miyabi stuff was finally revealed and boy was that a letdown. I don't necessary hate her more or something now but man talk about being petty.
Overall a really fun ride although I vastly prefer the first over the second half as the latter pretty much felt like a rehash only with more at stake. Onizuka was obviously the MVP but his excessively nativity did get on my nerves sometime, Kikuchi and Urumi were also great. I will check out the related series some other time.
Awh. Wish you liked it more. I just had fun all the way through, and can't remember any irritation. Although, it was one of the first manga I ever read.

A japanese exchange student lived with me when I was about 12, and he brought me Doraemon and Kindaichi (therefore the first manga I ever read), and I read GTO a bit later since he said it was his favorite. So it was really one of the manga that got me into reading manga. Oh, the nostalgia. Now you've learned something new about my past. You're welcome.

But the childhood friend always loses.
Following tonight's theme of my past, let's learn more about Alabastre. I once dated my childhood friend, about 7 years after she moved away. We ran into each other and hit it off. Things didn't go so well, though. Childhood friends just aren't the same after all those years.

I never had a harem, though. Just love triangles.
