I'm pretty sure the Titans all being people (including the stupid generic Titans) is and always was the main premise.

I don't really get the oft-repeated claim that its some kind of bait-and-switch either. Eren having Titan powers was introduced in what, Chapter 8?

This is yet another excellent series that is impossible to keep up with due to a monthly release. Also, the pacing is falling off a bit... 3-4 month timeskips in between the last couple releases. If I didn't have to remember everything once a new chapter comes out, this could be one of the more entertaining fleshed-out universes.

It can be introduced in chapter 1 and still be a bait and switch. If chapter 1 had ended with Eren, Mikasa, and Armen all being eaten by a Titan and chapter 2 introduced us to Jean who was actually the main character of the series it would still be a bait and switch. The whole idea of a bait and switch is you are lured and promised something but get something completely different ie attack on Titan promises me it'll be a story of human survival in an impossible fight against the Titans.

The first several chapters lead us to believe this is the case by killing off named characters left and right including our main protagonist. Then just when we think we're gonna get out big steak dinner after all the appetizers and signs pointing to steak we get chicken Alfredo, Eren has the power to become a Titan and it complete changes everything about the series and its direction. It's a classic bait and switch.

This doesn't mean that the switch has to be a bad thing, I enjoy steak and I enjoy chicken Alfredo. The issue is if you promise me one thing and serve another I'm going to be upset even if I enjoy the alternative.

This just makes me realize how hungry I am

I'll be honest, I think the whole spoiler situation (not just in this thread) is a bit too much up in the air right now. Tons of people complaining lately and I don't think they're 100% at fault, it's a bit weird.

Well, it's the manga thread, not the anime thread, so it's not really Bass's problem or fault... but it still sucks, regardless, ya know?

Goddamnit... the problem is beforehand I had no context for any spoilers so they washed over me, but now that I know a little, everything makes sense and blows.

I'm just talking in general, it just pops up lately a lot, like with the HxH thread and Jojo thread and mostly every anime/manga thread that isn't one of the main two OTs. So I kinda dunno what's going on, I don't think it's working out if so many are complaining in one wave.

The June issue of Kodansha's Bessatsu Sh&#333;nen Magazine is announcing on Thursday that manga artist Hiromu Arakawa (Fullmetal Alchemist, Silver Spoon, Hero Tales) is drawing an adaptation of The Heroic Legend of Arslan (Arslan Senki), the acclaimed fantasy novel series by Yoshiki Tanaka (Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Sohryuden - Legend of the Dragon Kings, Tytania). The manga series will launch in the magazine's August issue on July 9.

The ongoing novel series, billed by Bessatsu Sh&#333;nen Magazine as the "world's greatest historical fantasy," already inspired two anime films and a four-part original video anime from 1991 to 1993. Central Park Media, who released the anime in North America, describes the story:

As an unnaturally heavy mist descends on the battlefield, King Andragoras and his most valued officers confer among the bodies of dead and dying soldiers. When Daryoon, a young but highly skilled officer, voices his reluctance to send men into battle under these conditions, the king, unstable and enraged, banishes him.

Now, Daryoon's new mission is to insure the safety of the King's only son, Prince Arislan. Daryoon and Prince Arislan set off on a quest of their own, but they can't succeed alone. They must convince both the Lord Narsus and his companion, the archer Elam, to join them in their quest to somehow help the soldiers win the war.

Now a group of only six they must somehow overcome an enemy of 300,000 soldiers! These unlikely soldiers have fate on their side, so anything can happen!

The 13-volume novel series also inspired an earlier manga series by Chisato Nakamura. Similarly, Tanaka's Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Sohryuden, Yakushiji Ry&#333;ko no Kaiki Jikenbo, and Tytania novels all inspired both anime and manga.

I think the biggest problem is that some people (including myself) forget to put the bolded title of the manga in their posts, when a discussion is well underway.
