Eyeshield 21 (Vol. 2-3 )
I'm really enjoying this manga. I've wanted to read it for years, so I'm glad that I'm finally getting around to it.
Hoshi Mamoru Inu/Stargazing Dog
I only picked this up because, as an artist, I do not like Murakami Takashi's work, so when I saw that he wrote a manga, I wanted to give it a chance. It was beautiful. It was also fucking depressing. It had an interesting moral, too. Murakami Takashi hates that in modern society, one is incapable of living a simple life. An individual must adapt to contemporary living, and if they don't, they're essentially doomed. If you want to read a sad, nice story about a selfless man the sacrifices he makes for his dog, check it out.
I should explain why I dislike it. I really like his older pieces, but when he started doing so much focus on deconstruction of contemporary Japanese pop culture, he became such a commercial artist. It started as social commentary on the exaggerations in things like manga by focusing, for example, on features that make something moe. The issue was that he became so commercially oriented, that instead of social commentary, the art became that which he was supposedly commenting on. Here is the epitome of my disdain.Man, you hate murakami's work? We can't be best friends now.
It's disgusting that he made money by selling this. Oh, the other reason I dislike him as an artist is that he uses Hiropon factory to create his works. He doesn't paint or sculpt his pieces anymore. All that being said, I do like some of the superflat paintings.
I'm a fan of Murakami well, his older stuff at least, I haven't seen much of his more recent output so I'll have to check this out.Hoshi Mamoru Inu/Stargazing Dog

She was one of the artists Murakami promoted when he formed KaiKai Kiki along with Chiho Aoshima and the other 'Superflat' artists. I imagine she payed some dues in the Hiropon Factory. It's been a few years since I studied contemporary Japanese artists. That name sounds familiar, but looking at her pieces doesn't remind me of anything. I like it, though. It's charming and the people are so wispy. My favorite artist from Japan is Hisashi Tenmyouya. He has a sort of ukiyo-e revival style. I love it.

Fairy Tail Special (Punishment Special)
The fanservice message was misleading, Gray was just the same old, Natsu too on the color page and even the chapter itself. Otherwise changed my view on Juvia that was kind of nasty that one panel, hopefully Gray avoids in the future.

She's done a couple manga if you like her style. Spaceship ee (originally a web series I believe) and Cosmic Juice are available in english, although perhaps out of print.
Now to google Hisashi Tenmyouya.
