Marathon Server Slam CCU Watch

I was halfway? through the tutorial and the game suddenly kicked me out saying it couldn't connect to the Marathon servers

Well, that's that then. Well done Bungie

Will reach 150K~ then death spiral will kick in.

The ridiculously tiny text, icons, mouse cursor UI, means this was never meant to be a console game. I guess Sony has no sensible game designers left.

This seems like a surefire flop, right?

The real game actually cost money and they cannot manage 100k for a few days FREE?

Hard to say IMO until the game is out.
Arc Raiders achieved a much bigger CCU once it was out vs its own server slam , though I think it benefited from a novelty appeal that I'm not sure this game will have.

It could also be one of those games that isn't a massive hit but gets a big enough audience to quietly do decently I'm the background for many years (Like From Honor). Though I doubt Sony would be pleased with that sort of result from a studio they paid multiple billions for.

Sony is not going to throw money away in marketing for a game that looks to have little appeal to the casuals.

Concord was a good lesson.
Did Concord have a lot of marketing? I really cant remember, the only thing that i can think of where those cgi shorts.

Destiny 1 Sold 5+million copies in its first month on console only.
Even if this game is smaller/niche, yall dont have to act like Steam CCU's are the only thing that matters

Man I hope this game doesnt get cancelled because of yall punks lol. Ill be happy as long as they keep the game going for those who like it

If something it shows the opposite: that would have been designed to be played in big tvs. So to be played in console, not in a laptop or a Steam Machine.

P.S.: There's a subtitles size option in the settings.

If bungie gets shut down/their destiny 3 cancelled its not coz of us-core gamers, its coz devstudio dropped the ball itself for many years and decided they dont wanna target us- paying customers who buy AAA games full price at launch, they instead prefered to go full retard aka gaas and try to lure in modern audience(aka women), and we all know modern audience doesnt buy games xD

Thats article from jul 2021 aka 4,5years ago, now using logic, u guys think it got worse or better in those 4,5 years and how worse its gonna get if by any chance we get destiny 3 in 2028 or maybe only by 2030?

Does bungie have right to put game's quality on backburner and focus on pushing agenda full throttle? Ofc, but its sure path to devstudio clousure, and that isnt on us- core gamers who want quality games, not agenda pushing games.

Its on bungie themselfs (and not gonna lie, partly on sony too, if sony CEO would be even tiny bit based bungie would have been told to make brand new singple player halo-like IP and we would be seeing gameplay trailers on ps5pr0 with pssr 2.0 by now :messenger_sunglasses: ).

Edit: Just gonna post this vid, thats halo3 trailer from e3 2007 for x360, cant imagine what this og bungie G-unit could do on ps5pr0 today:

Sure, if you dont want to play their games thats fine.
But thats got nothing to do with what I said. If people like it, let them enjoy it. And CCU numbers doesnt have to mean everything for a paid game. It didnt for Destiny 1 or some of their other games

Sony market it on their Youtube channel, was shown on State of Play, every gaming website was talking about it, so for a fresh new IP, that's pretty good marketing support, yet it failed because it was extremely unappealing.

At the moment, this game has three times as many players as Marathon:

I have heard about this game.

That despite the ui getting cluttered with lots of elements - it is quite engaging about 5 hours into it.

It all clicks then and you appreciate the game more and more.

TLDR: The Marathon server slam still didn't conclude, but so far numbers are relatively similar to the Arc Raiders server slam regarding:
  • Steam CCU
  • Twitch viewship
  • Google searches
  • Youtube searches
I edited it to add yesterday's 84,373 CCU, around half of the second day of Arc Raiders server slam (which btw in Arc Raiders was a saturday, not a Friday). I'll update the other graphs later today.

Modern Audience Bungie brainstorming on a new game:

"Hey let's make a new shooter, but this one should be all artsy and deep, not like those chauvinistic male power fantasy games we used to make!"
"Artsy sounds good, but don't you need creativity and talent to pull that off?"
"Hmm, you may be on to something, we did fire all our good writers and artists on account of being ... male ... look, why don't we ..."
"...resort to tired tropes like subversion of expectations and making the player uncomfortable for no reason and then tell them it's a bold and theme-driven satire?"
"Exactly! So I was thinking we could do what new solo devs do when they're just starting out experimenting with a game engine or, you know, programming, and have the UI just be a confusing mishmash of default components thrown together!..."
"Go on...."
"...And since you seemed worried the other day about us laying off our competent 3d artists, I'm thinking we could also go the novice solo dev route and have our briefing cutscenes be like a bunch of shitty untextured blender models covered in nausea-inducing overly saturated colors with no contrast to the other parts of the cutscene and have like random geometric shapes rotating in the background or some shit...."
"But isn't that ... too shitty, even for us?"
"Nah, remember, we're telling the players that this art style is a bold statement on like alienation and the dangers or technology ... or something!"
"Oh yeah we could do that! I'm sure they'll buy it despite the game being set in like the year 9999AD into the future of space..."
"Pretty much! That's cyberpunk for you, everything is inexplicably ugly and oppressive, and our game is going to be the ugliest and most oppressive!"
"...And thereby the most avant-garde!"
"High five!"

i know it's a crazy concept for this industry, but maybe we should start selling complete games, with big DLC packs every quarter or 6 months instead of this hamster wheel of live service games that don't meet sales goals.
This game is going to launch, and its probably going to do OK, but Sony and bungie will look at it like a failure, cut staff, and run it on a skelly crew till they sunset it in 18 months.
Players like the gun play, the aesthetics, the world building, but what most don't seem to like is the type of game (extraction shooter) and the UI. I would love to play this as a halo type arena shooter. Actually, there ya go. games used to ship with a single player component and a multiplayer one, so why don't devs give us choices anymore. for example, they could've launched this as the extraction being the "main mode" and using the same assets release with a more arena style MP mode, broadening the audience.

So it peaked on a Thursday afternoon and trending down since. Doesnt look good. Maybe it picks up some later today as it's only Sat noon EST. But if the game was that good there should be tons of people trying it, especially since it's now the weekend.

Looks like the core Marathon fans downloaded first. Everyone else is meh. ARC was different. I think it actually kept rising catching steam.

I like that they are improving the game every half a day or so as they receive feedback. The issue is the antiwoke crew has hated this game since they saw the bungie logo. It's less about the game tbh.
Bungie is considered woke enough for their to be a backlash? I feel like I am out of touch on who is supposedly 'woke' and for what reasons.

They are very woke, but that barely shows in their games, so the hate they get is mostly for gaming-related issues.

Are they? Other than the lead dev who paints his nails I haven't seen much, but I gave up on Destiny 2 years ago and haven't really followed Bungie much the last 5 years.
