DC has Arrow now, with Flash, Gotham, Amazon, Constantine, Hourman, and Avenger in development.
With this announcement, TV is the one arena where both companies have their act together.

Daredevil on TV has worked so well in the past

As someone who's not a comic book guy, I'd prefer Netflix to keep making producing shows like OITNB or even House of Cards versus this. I just can't really get excited about more series based on comic book characters I don't have any particular allegiance to that are part of a universe I don't really care to explore.
I'm happy for you if you're a comic book fan, but I don't really know if it's worth getting excited about at the moment without even knowing who is attached to write/direct. Not to temper expectations, but...
Or even if you're not a fan of comic books but a fan of TV, hopefully you can still admire the ambition to greenlight four series and a miniseries at once, all sharing the same tied universe.

Yeah. This is important news for the TV medium as a whole. It's basically Disney picking a side on the Cable vs Internet thing.
Not entirely. Gotham is going to be on Fox and I believe Constantine was being shopped to CBS like the other Wonder Woman show before Amazon. The others are though. And honestly, being on CW hasn't hurt Arrow. Nikita is another show that shows how the CW can work just fine for projects like these.Yeah but they re tied to teh CW
Disney who owns ABC and ESPN?

So am I the only one who thinks Shirld is ok or is the Internet just being the Internet?
Are you doubting the majesty of the wall spin?
Has anything like this ever happened before? As in a super-connected film and TV universe spanning multiple characters?
The closest thing I can think of is Star Trek, and even then I don't really think that's the same
Defenders? Why the hell wouldn't it be Heroes For Hire, or even Marvel Knights?
Dr Strange gunna be piiiised.

Aw. Don't be such a sourpuss, ivy.
but Elektra thoOkay so inspiration wise, we all agree they should take mostly from Bendis's Daredevilt
It's unfortunate. It's more the proliferation of comic book properties instead of more original content. That's what I was hoping Netflix would do. Sure, an adaption here or there is fine, but on this level? That doesn't sit well.

What if it all turns out to be really fantastic, well crafted television?
I want a Seven Soldiers of Victory miniseries just cuz.
Come on, DC. Do it.
Honestly, I feel like this superhero push could help the creation of new original content by pushing the boundaries even further. After all, there are only so many a and b listers in DC and Marvel's roosters.

Considering that no one is even attached to write, I'll reserve judgment. Again, this seems like the same genesis as SHIELD: a series created in a board room than an actual, organic pitch and creative endeavor from a writer and director.
And it's still diverting resources from the potential for more original stories.
I don't really care about the MCU, I've always found comics to be a bit hokey, and I'm dubious on their transition into quality TV.
Personally, I just don't think live action comic book shows can ever work. The stories are not nuanced enough to appeal to critics and directors are constrained in what they can do because of budgets and not infringing on 'canon'.
I'd much rather these all be animated.
We don't really know yet, but there is going to be a Flash spin-off too.

Shaowebb is gonna poop his pants. Can't wait to see some Iron Fist.

Anyone know if this takes place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or it's own self contained universe? I'm assuming it's within the MCU but the press release doesn't make it 100% clear.
Good to see that "comic books" still constitute "subject matter" instead of "medium" to people.
All four of these books/characs have featured stories on par with any season of acclaimed contemporary drama.
