Mass Effect 4 studio director heading to E3 for the first time in 8 years

Please don't be a prequel. Please don't be MS exclusive. Please be good. Did we ever get any word if this is supposed to be cross-gen or current-gen only?

As much as I love the Mass Effect universe, I'm personally wanting to keep expectations low, given that this is pretty much Montreal's first official full-game project. ( They previously only did MP and Omega, right? )

I'd fear for another situation like Bioware Austin. Though thankfully it was pretty clear from the very early stages that TOR was not going to be anywhere close to what we all want out of a KoToR title, even as an MMO, and that Austin was a pale replacement for Edmonton and Obsidian.

I just want to see if it's going to be a prequel or sequel and if it's cross-gen or not. Surely won't be out until late 2015 at the absolute earliest so I'd be very disappointed if it was cross-gen.

"Ok guys haha, here's the REAL ending to Mass Effect 3."
Honestly? Fuck Mass Effect 3.
They should cut as many ties as they can with the trilogy and just keep vaguely the same setting, maybe with an entirely new perspective and with some century between the old saga and the new one.

And as I said in the past, they need to realize that Mass Effect worked at its best when it was "space Jack Bauer making detective work" and it sucked very hard when it tried to tell a story about saving the universe from the big ancient evil.

I actually thought Casey Hudson was the director. Realistically is there any chance of this not being multiplatform? I really don't want to have to buy an XB1 for 1 game

If it's a prequel that means it'll have to be an ME1-style RPG with exploration again rather than an ME3-style shooter, right? ...Right?

EA is better off just selling that IP to MS if they're going to go exclusive again, to be honest.

EA spent a good half-a-generation trying to basically rebuild back Mass Effect as an IP that PS3 owners should care about, even though they were deprived of the first two games in the franchise for a long time. And frankly, given that ME1-3 was "Commander Shepard's" story, as much as EA tries to act otherwise, it's a difficult sell to ask a consumer who's never had the original experience jump in the 3rd game. ( or 2nd game )

It's the start of a new gen. ME is starting off a fresh footing, no longer shackled to Shepard's story. If there's ever any time for ME to realise its full potential as an IP, it is now or never.

I think I'm missing something here.
Why is Shinobi being pointed as an "insider" so often, recently?
I never got the impression he knew more than the average user, beside following very closely what other developers write publicly on Twitter.

What are we expecting here?
Gameplay E3 trailer?
My guess is: not a chance.
Best case scenario: a teaser.

Please let this be multiplat, please.

If it is I'll be hyped as fuck for this reveal.

If it isn't is going to be hard...

Ah I only posted the tweet in the ME community thread as I didn't think it was very big news. I'm trying to keep expectations in check.

If it is at E3 it better not be a 10s teaser just showing the title or something. Tell us about the setting at the very least.

I never got the impression he knew more than the average user, beside following very closely what other developers write publicly on Twitter.

Prior to going on exile, he demonstrated insider knowledge regarding The Order, knowing that gameplay footage teaser + story trailer was coming before the average user.

Then he went on exile to Twitter hell, and started showcasing that he has real insider information. He's pretty much on-point on a lot of stuff, but his big 'insider' showcase thus far is him revealing that AC Unity has 4 player co-op, which was vetted by Escapist's own sources a few days later.

Since then, he's teased a few things such as QB, Order delay, Homefront having a subtitle, current-gen only, etc, before they were officially revealed. Arguably not big leaks, but he's been correct and it's definitely before the average user.

So when he says ME4 is not the game that's going exclusive, there is weight in his statement. Not full-proof obviously, but it's not something to laugh as random speculation either.

It's a recent thing. Only happened early this year, as far as I recall... his 'evolution' into an 'insider.'

How did Montreal become so big in game development? Obviously it's an important place for Ubisoft, the recent Batman game I noticed was by WB Games Montreal and now Bioware Montreal is doing the new Mass Effect?

Is there something in the water over there?

It's 2014, so they aren't allowed to call it ME4. There are only a few choices in this day and age:
Mass Effect: Origins
Mass Effect: Retribution
Mass Effect: Ascension
Mass Effect: Revelations
Mass Effect: Absolution
Mass Effect: Awakening

That's it. Those are the rules.
