Mass Effect 4 studio director heading to E3 for the first time in 8 years

I would prefer for them to do a new IP instead, yes. But what you're suggesting is worse than any of the other two options.

How would it kill off the IP when the series started as a first party game on the Xbox, and a majority of the sales are on 360? I don't think it will be exclusive, but I bet MS will do co-marketing or get exclusive DLC.

If you really need me to I can transcribe five sections of The Final Hours Of Titanfall where it's explained how the project went on for three years, was completely off the rails, Respawn came back to them with plans to massively shrink the project relative to their original contract after spending all the money they received, and then EA signed Microsoft to fund the last year to amortize risk on a project they didn't know would actually complete even with Respawn's large team overhaul.

Unless you think Mass Effect is an astronomical trainwreck in development, then this would not be a 1:1 scenario, before we even get to things like new multiplayer-only IP versus three entry highly successful franchise.

That's not happening. The only reason the first Mass Effect was exclusive was because MS Games Studios agreed to publish the game.

After Bioware was merged with Pandemic, it became part of EA. EA is not doing exclusives anymore (well, except Titanfall, but that's only because Respawn is not owned by EA, and MS directly funded the completion of the project), especially considering the large disparity in XBO and PS4 sales.
 
I feel like all signs point to this being Xbone exclusive. I'll be shocked if it isn't.

That would also apply to series that started on the PS1/2, like Resident Evil, Tekken, SSX, Devil May Cry, and Project Zero/Fatal Frame, but games very rarily return back to being exclusive to the platform they started on. Actually, I can't think of any game doing so.

And Bioware/EA would upset many fans on the other platforms, me included.


EDIT: Well, on further inspection, Tekken did actually return to being PS exclusive.

Can you do that? Have all three on either PC or ps3, but never played them, and being three large games puts me off even starting. If I could skip one without too much impact that would help a lot

Skipping any of them would ruin the experience tbh. A lot of people on PS3 wouldn't have played ME1, but I'm so glad I waited and played ME1 first. There's a lot you'll miss by not importing.

I was always thinking it would be very likely that a teaser trailer could show up for Mass Effect at E3 and seeing this makes me happy. But it also doesn't necessarily mean anything. Hope it does though.

The difference with Mass Effect is that it was first party. The only reason why it went multiplat was because EA bought BioWare/Pandemic (it would likely still have came to PC, though).

As for the next ME being exclusive? Not going to happen.Like I've saud before, co-marketing and exclusive DLC is likely (maybe even a port of the trilogy), but not the whole game.If MS had gotten ME3 as a timed exclusive like they did with 2, then maybe I could see where people were coming from, but I seriously doubt this next one will be.

MS has a lot of history with BioWare, and I'd love them to make another game together (ME1 is my favourite), but with them being owned by EA that's not likely. Exclusive would only matter to me if it was a collab between the two companies. If its just getting the game before everyone else then there's no point.

Ah, it seems I misunderstood your previous post as advocating the possibility of ME4 being exclusive.

I also prefer ME1 for its atmosphere, story and soundtrack, although I think the gameplay got better entry by entry. And I hated the copy-paste Mako missions. ME3 is also close to my heart due to the multiplayer.

The only "sign" is a rumor about a big 3rd party exclusive for xbone... for which we have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to indicate that has anything to do with the ME series...

Or is this a joke post... I really can't tell.

That wasn't surprising. I think they made a ton of money off the game. More then they would have made if they sold the DLC I would imagine.

When I started playing on PS3 I heard people mention how they bought a $20 or $50 PSN card for crates.
 
Unless MS is throwing chunks of money I can't see it being exclusive to a platform that has not dominated the market like 360 did. At worst of the worst, it may be a timed exclusive.

Of course, I can see platform exclusive DLC being perhaps more than likely (oh how I despise them).
 
I bet it will be an Xbone exclusive considering the pattern of Microsoft getting back exclusive franchises that went multiplatform late last gen

I started playing before Mass Effect was released on PS3, I mean I guess I missed out on a single game but it wasn't bad at all. The series is pretty awesome, try it out.

Can you enjoy the Return of the King withouth seeing the other 2 LOTR movies? Well...if you like medieval war and magic you can. But will you understand shit about what the hell is happening? Will you empathize with the characters? No.

Same with ME saga. If you play ME3 withouth 1 and 2 will you enjoy it? Well...you can. It's a cool game. Will you understand what the hell is going on? Hell no. Will you empathize with the characters? Of course not.

Krogans? Oh god what a dangerous race, better kill'em all.
Geth? Oh my gosh those evil machines are killing the poor Quarians, better destroy them all. Fuck this "legion" thing.

Last time one dude here on gaf played ME3 withouth playing the other 2 said things like "Wreav is better than Wrex". So no.
 
It doesn't make much sense to make the first of a trilogy exclusive. It made more sense with Mass Effect 1 -- 360 was the more successful console at the time and easier to develop for and it was a new franchise so there was more risk involved. 6 month timed exclusive is the only possibility I'd consider with ME4.
