This is what Bioware has become...

I never asked for this, Bioware.

I'm intrigued and terrified to see where the Bioware forums went with Kiss Day.

Out of boredom I clicked around a bit on their forums. There was a thread about Garrus, so I checked it out. It was filled with about fifty links to various Garrus related things, including a collection of around close to a gigabyte of screenshots of Garrus

The squad selection part of the final act of ME2 was so stupid. All of the choices were awful choices for the squad leadership roles.

There's my contribution to this thread.

Well, don't keep them all to yourself!

mass effect 3 is bad and eatchildren has been paid of by bioware to stop the truth getting out. why are we not allowed to post shirtless garrus pictures?

Sorry for bumping this thread, but I need a non spoilery place to talk about ME's reception.

NO SPOILERS PLEASE

I didn't follow the Internet's reception of ME1 and ME2 before playing ME2, so I don't know how big was the bitching for those games.
What I saw of ME3 so far pleases me but it seems that people here are quite negative. Was it like that for ME2?Are people excited for ME3?I know I am.

Basically I want less negativity and more rejoicing, why is GAF so negative. :(

Most people who liked Mass Effect weren't impressed with the direction Mass Effect 2 took. Nothing about Mass Effect 3 has made it seem like it'll be more like the first than the second so there's no need to get excited.

What is the direction ME2 took exactly?I never quite understood what people meant by that.

Is it the lack of MAKO planet exploration, lack of weapon mods or armor customization?Because I can live without those things.

And ME2 was GOTY here on GAF, so there must have been some people who liked it.

Definitely has more RPG elements than ME2 did, larger Citadel than even ME1, and more squad banter :)

YES!!

Edit: I really hope haters will do a turnaround with ME3, as it really sounds promising :)

Yes, it was such a stream-lined experience compared to the first. Also the introduction of The Illusive Man, the Aussie woman and EDI, the Reaper-baby, the entire thing about the Collectors. The whole main quest was basically a squad-gathering mission. Disappointing.

YES!!

A lot of people that harp on ME2's "lack of"...err, "RPGness" also probably think an inventory is all that makes a game an RPG. =/

I feel there's a majority who still loves ME2 (me included) the people who hate it are just a bit (understatement of the year) more vocal.
It's a shame, there used to be discussion about the lore and what not if new video's pop up, nowadays it revolves around who can insult bioware the most

The story disappointed me the most about ME2, it felt like a bunch of DLC put together with a plot desperately trying to justify it.

By the end of the game the plot just didn’t make any sense!

Also the game felt small, mass effect manage to create the illusion of a wide open galaxy, ME2 just felt like a corridor.

Yeah when I see this thread, I'm thinking a ME3 hype thread with minimal leak discussion would be a good thing. Not sure if this is allowed though.

For me personally, Mass Effect 1 had a competent story and Mass Effect 2 had a terrible one. Mass Effect 2 also felt far more repetitive to me, since there were only like...two loyalty missions that deviated from the specific formula like at all. (and recruitment missions felt like they got worse after the initial awesome Garrus recruitment)

Samara had a pretty good one if you ask me. Of course the combat got pretty boring by that point in time but the overall the design was not bad.

Edit: Well Samara herself wasn't feature all that much in it either. But it had a mix of talky bits and action which kind of makes better than a lot of the other recruitment missions.

I don't like threads like this because it's like a 'free speech zone' has been created. If people want to bitch about Mass Effect then they should do it in ME threads. If a ME thread is full of bitching then I think that says something about the franchise that needs to be said.

Samara's was...it was different. But it wasn't particularly good IMO. It wasn't bad, but the actual dialogue between you and Morinth was mediocre. But what's frustrating is that I'm playing Star Trek Online right now and, production values and voice acting aside, it has its fair share of similar dialogue and interaction driven missions that start at Samara Loyalty quality and get better. I mean, they're getting upstaged by a B-Tier MMO developer!

I was only referring to the recruitment mission, the one on Ilium. As in I think it's comparable to the Garrus recruitment mission.

And it's not like you need a lot of production values or money to make a good story. You just need a competent writer who can make a good story and is familiar enough with games to figure out how to present it to the player.

The problem is that the people in charge don't think this sells games or is important enough to spend resources on.

I think you're harsh on the story and the dialogue. The story is centered on the characters, but I don't mind. It's not easy making the second chapter of a trilogy, especially when you have to take into account the choices of the first game and prepare for the third game. The story felt more personal, you get to know Shepard and his crew better. The dialogue is pretty great too.

Also someone said the gameplay was repetitive:it's still much better than ME1's combat(which was also repetitive) and I found that mixing up powers and playing on higher difficulties made the combat way more fun.

No, i think it says something about how overreacting GAF is in general. The hate is nowhere that bad outside of this forum.

I think Bioware should pull an MGS2 and kill off Shepard (again) right in the beginning and let you play as Garrus the rest of the game.

Yet, wasn't this supposedly planned a trilogy from the start? If so, why then did Bioware have most of the things that carried over from ME1 into ME2 as an email? Why didn't they road map it better? It's just really, really disappointing that they dropped the ball so badly on it all.

I mean, catching up on the Rachni with the contact on Ilium was better than an email, but it was one quick conversation with someone that didn't even matter. : \

They actually didn't expect people to import their saves as much. (50% imported their saves, which is lot of people considering you need two games)

They've taken that into account and I doubt we will see as much emails in ME3.

All I want is weapon and armor loot. Is that too much to ask for? I can forgive the SPOILER and SPOILER if I get that.
This is a non spoiler zone, be careful.

I never felt loot was an important part of ME(more of an annoyance to me, but to each his own I suppose) but I think I read that there will be weapon modifiers in ME3.

Lore has been cast aside for tits and ass and dudebro.

Loved 2, and really want to like 3 but out of all the things known about the game so far, it is the multiplayer that sounds the most interesting. That isn't the best of signs.

There were some interviews a while back where Ray Muzyka and Greg said a lot of decisions you made in ME1 won't necessarily show up in ME2, but will in ME3. The Rachni is evidence of that too.

You can see we will definitely encounter the Rachni queen in ME3 from the trailers.

While potentially very cool, that just further cements my feeling of ME2s status being "shit guys, we promised a trilogy! What can we do for the middle!?"

I just got a bad feeling that the Rachni queen will have a minor role in ME3, considering that she is dead for some players.

That, or Bioware will just create a 2nd random out of nowhere Rachni queen for those guys with slightly different dialogue.

Well, ME2's point in the storyline was laid out pretty obviously...destroy the Collectors, delay or try to prevent the Reapers from coming. Shit they have a backdoor anyway. Yea not the best plot, but certainly not horrid like many here make it.

I expect more emails, frankly. Emails are the easiest way to show off "Hey! Look! We paid attention to your choices!" while having it impact the game minimally.

Bioware has realized that having choices carry over from game to game creates a situation where the matrix of possibility gets way too large, so they've been minimizing it as much as possible.

In the end, I doubt the scenarios will differ that much. At the very least, the "big" choice at the end of ME2 will mean nothing.

Going off solely the promo materials, the crew from ME2 means nothing at all, as they won't be core squad members this time around.

Basically, ME2 was pointless. Lair of the Shadow Broker and Arrival advanced the plot a little, but that's it.

Oh, there was, but it wasn't the focus.

It wasn't the focus of ME2 either, squad relationships was the focus.I don't see how the lore was cast aside. If anything there's more lore since we visit the Terminus Systems.

ME2 wasn't pointless, it's the "calm" before the storm (not very calm because mankind is under threat but the rest of the galaxy is doing as usual).

Haven't followed it's progress closely, but I'd rather it wasn't even more of a shooter than ME2. More KotoR, less Gears of War.

But but but Miranda had a sexy suit and Jack was half naked!!

Surely that count for the focus right?

the dark, aggressive, "oooo space is so DANGEROUS" tone that ME2 took after the more diplomatic and military-industrial complex of "humans r cool 2!" almost star trek-esque feel of the first game is what upset me. it started looking like every other blade runner-in-space motif out there. if i wanted that i'd watch attack of the clones (which fucking sucks).
