May 7th | UK General Election 2015 OT - Please go vote!

Another election, and another chance to vote for the one I deem least terrible... Well, I would, but it makes no sense to do so.

Out of all those parties, there is going to be one that makes your life better off than the others. Go vote for them, even if they don't have a chance.

Please can we have a mod change the title urging people to go vote.

It is very important people vote, even if they are a ukipper.

PM a mod. The op is on a self imposed ban. I agree though. Vote. Even if you spoil your paper vote.

Don't forget your Gaviscon tomorrow's everyone. The papers are going to be rotten to the core. I personally hope I can get through the day without seeing any papers

The SNP will position themselves to the left of Milibands Labour, by supporting the stuff they have in common but offering 'better' versions of it via amendment which Labour will be forced to vote down. The SNP can then say look we tried but they're still the same old New Labour at heart, that'll play very well in the Central Belt of Scotland. The SNP will also talk of some standalone policies which Labour can't vote through which will add to it.

You're right in that it's essentially somewhat of a false choice but it will not be presented that way.

SNP are playing the long game. Within any sort of coalition structure they (as a minority partner) have some leverage for concessions but minimal chance of pushing through their core policies. Which feeds the notion that Westminster is inherently anti-Scottish and will fuel the clamor for another independence referendum.

If they get what they want, they win. If they don't get what they want, they win!

I'm thoroughly unenthusiastic at the prospect of paying £17 for a return ticket to my hometown to vote in a Sinn Fein safe-seat.

No love for Farage here either, but this Tory campaign has been dire from top to bottom.

This election, like every other, but also quite unlike them, is going to come down to small numbers of votes in a small number of seats.

Find out what your constituency is, and who has a realistic shot of winning, just need to enter your postcode about halfway down the page.

If the 'Swing's listed are anywhere near 10% then you can stop worrying and pretty much vote with your heart, because your vote (like so many others) doesn't really matter.

If the 'Swing's are less than 5% then you've got a real chance to decide your MP, but probably only between a couple of parties. At that point, I would suggest voting for the lesser of whichever two evils are presented :)

ah my old MP is still there Jim Dowd

Look at it another way: whichever party you vote for has an equal chance of getting their policies enacted in Westminster

It's been a while and it's the first time I'll be voting in this area, I received a polling card but I can't find it, do I need to take any identification to the polling station?

Should've done a postal vote. I voted Alliance back home. They didn't even make 300 votes last time hahaha.

Not really from where I am sitting all of the main parties will make my life worse. After all it was the labour party that created the bedroom tax (I believe Ed Milliband even voted in favour of it). I am under no illusion that Ed is a "friend" of the poor.

The Tory candidate is probably going to win again in my constituency. What a knob. He gave a talk at my old school and when asked about his thoughts on gay marriage, started on about how marriage is between a chair and a lectern, not a lectern and a lectern -__-

Living in white middle class suburbia sucks.

I know. Assumed I'd be grand for a lift but alas no (too much uni work to spend half the day on a bus too).

Was gonna vote NI Green. Would've considered Alliance too, though both will poll just a couple hundred I'd guess.

To be honest, there's not too much between the Conservatives (my ideal choice) and Labour (my actual choice), but the gap between Labour & UKIP in the opinion polls for my consistency is much too tight to risk, and I'll be damned if I see UKIP holding a seat here.

I think you're confused. Labour are against the bedroom tax; they want to scrap it.

Back to the topic, I'm in a Chinese restaurant in China Town.

That's not what I meant. What I meant was, even if they're all making your life worse, they'll be making it worse to different degrees. Vote for the one that doesn't fuck you life up as much, because otherwise you might end up with something terrible.

It's like voting for a punch in the face or an amputated leg. You don't want either, but do you really want other people to decide whether you're just getting a bruise or you're going to be crippled for life?

They want to end it though and they didn't create it

lol no, no I am not confused. The Bedroom tax was originally a Labour policy it was part of the Welfare Reform Act of 2007 at the time it only applied to "private" renting not social renting. All the Tories did was expand the bedroom tax to encompass social housing too.

Yes they did create it and they SAY they want to end I have a hard time believing they will end it. Labour introduced the bedroom tax for those on benefits that lived in private rental accommodation all the Tories did was expand it to those living in social housing. Oddly enough this is never pointed out by Ed or the fact he actually voted in favour of it at the time.

Ah, interesting. I've learnt something new today.

Ah, interesting. I've learnt something new today.

Ah it is easily done, I had a friend that had no option but to rent privately. She wasn't a well person and she lived in an area that had huge housing demands but fuck all supply. So she had to have a 3 bedroom house (because there was nothing else) which meant she had a spare bedroom. She didn't WANT the bedroom, she didn't USE the bedroom but because there were no two bedroom houses available she had to have it.

When she first told me that she was having to pay for the bedroom I thought she was lying. But after digging around it was true the Labour Government introduced the bedroom tax and it caused untold suffering. I saw it personally my friend ending up in massive arrears because of it.

So I kinda find it hard to believe that Ed Milliband will end a policy his party created and he voted for in the first place.

I'm already steeling myself up to moan about tellers outside the station tomorrow. Remember they are not there in an official capacity and you don't have to given them the time of day. Unless you want to.

No it shouldn't be necessary.

Well early night for me people. I'm up at 5 for polling duty!

YouGov prediction.

Again Kellner is predicting despite of his polling. I imagine he's expecting the Tories to poll about 2% higher than what his polling is showing otherwise on the swing shown in the England portion of his polling Labour would be in with a chance of 60 seats from the Tories

A bunch of polls out tonight, some of them final:

YouGov (10k sample size! That's massive)
CON - 34% (-)
LAB - 34% (-)
UKIP - 12% (-)
LDEM - 10% (+1)
GRN - 4% (-1)

ComRes
CON - 35% (-)
LAB - 34% (+2)
UKIP - 12% (-2)
LDEM - 9% (-)
GRN - 4% (-)

Survation (4k sample size, another massive one)
LAB - 33% (-1)
CON - 33% (-)
UKIP - 16% (-)
LDEM - 9% (-)

This election is hilariously all square.

Alliance's only chance is Naomi Long but I can't help but feel the whole flag issue will see her out unfortunately.

Yeah, my first vote ever is in one of those as well. :c Ah, well. May as well earn the right to complain about them~

"[The Lib Dems] will be the lube on the broom handle."

Brilliant.

That entire thing was just perfect. 'Wh'.
