BBCs website seems more concerned about random animals. Either this is an attempt to use Animal Farm to cover the election or BBC.co.uk live coverage is as bad as I remember it.
They're not allowed to talk about anything that could influence the election. It means it's a weird no man's land day of news.

Election laws prevent media outlets from publishing news which could influence voting intention on Election Day until 10:30 PM.

The BBC (and all other broadcasters) are legally not allowed to really talk about the election until 10pm. They're allowed to say it's on but no coverage of what is really happening.

Ahhhh, makes sense in that regard, but they really should just put up a story saying "polls open" and leave it at that. It's these kind of things which make me hate rolling news even more because it's utterly pointless.

I put myself in their shoes, they made those promises fully expecting there wasn't a hope in hell they'd have to put them into practice.

The greens are the same since their economic policies are ludicrous. If they got in they'd have to change them.

... that's worse than if they actually went against stuff they intended. You really aren't helping their case.

No it is a poll of polls. Ie it is something that has not yet happened... If it bears out in the votes, then ukip will be numerically the third party albeit politically weak. But that is for tomorrow

Well, semantics. They're the third major party according to every poll statistic for this election to date.

I have voted Conservative, which will not be a surprise to many here. I'm not entirely happy to do so though - I think their campaign has been poor, but I just cant get past the wall of mistrust I have with Labour, and being in sarf Essex, I do not want UKIP getting in.

Whatever happens, I'll accept the final result - as long as we don't have another election later on in the year... I just hope whoever lands up in Government, we end up with an effective Opposition to push them to better serve their electorate.

On a side note - thanks to all here. Even though I'm not satisfied with my vote, I don't feel like I've ever been so engrossed in a election and I think it's down to this thread and the rest of UKPoliGAF, regardless of your political allegiance . Cheers everyone.

A better argument for it, though, would be that they "won" the European parliament elections which are nationwide and are real.

Been waiting for someone to vote Conservative. Don't feel like GAF correlates well to the polls as I'm seeing more Labour. Can't have a healthy discussion without all sides at the table :)

Voted for Labour in an extremely safe seat for them (84 years and counting). Was tempted to vote for TUSC. No Green alternative here.

I think it would be interesting if the smaller parties had a manifesto stating what they would attempt to do in a coalition (as in where they'd draw the lines, their priorities, secondary policies, etc.). This would at least feel more realistic than opening up a manifesto starting with "a Green government will..."

I just want to say that I'm so grateful for how Britain as a nation actually handles elections. Everything is so proper. It's good.

Or, indeed, they could put up this report

I think that's hardly tucked away.

I normally vote conservative but didn't this time as dave isn't serving a full term and I worry the party will lurch to the right.

I wish the majority of the party was closer to ken clarke on the spectrum. :/

Just voted for the first time ever. I went for Labour to my kick my cunt of a Conservative MP out of parliament. Labour will probably win my constituency anyway.

Aside from the terrible voting system, aka the important bit. :p

Apart from 80% of the newspapers I'd agree :D My friends and family are largely diplomatic and open to others point of view. You just have to be prepared to defend your own point of view if you've made a decision :)

You're a big guy.

True, but again it is their defining issue. Just seems strange to talk about anything like this when results are so close.

I'll echo this, even if you are a Tory ;)

Hoping Lilian Greenwood is returned (great turnout at the polls I went to) and that Anne Soubry, my mp until two months ago, gets the boot.

Charnwood constituency (traditionally conservative).

I voted Labour for the general and the Green party for the local councillor... thing. The only reason I bothered is because I fear those dick head BNP and UKIP tossers will get a seat.

I work with the Lib Dem candidate in Charnwood, not holding out much hope for him.

i don't understand this, couldn't camdawg just have a majority by staying with the clegger or has that been ruled out somehow? and if that won't work why would bread milliband be any more likely to be able to have a majority?

Dawg and the Cledge will probably only have 300 seats between them, but Milibae and Wee Nick can probably play a cool 330.

I actually didn't know there was media black out today. It's made for a really unnerving feeling. I think I've watched too much Game of Thrones. All my feeds are filled with Labour supporters. This sudden hope after all the murdoch fueled paper madness makes me nervous that something horrible is about to happen.

Well, it's a live feed of News 24, they always have a live feed of News 24. They're not really going to any special lengths to do it!

Edit: Oh, the blog! Yeah, it's mainly just warming up, it'll have more to do this evening.

Yeah, I'm trying to work out if whoever got the election live blog day shift got the good or bad deal. Good because that job seems so relaxing right now or bad, because you've got to make stories out of nothing.

Because Lib Dems are losing the majority of the seats they won last time round. Mostly due to them winning them off of the youth vote then proceeding to form a coalition with the party renowned for fucking over the youth.

The first post on the blog does actually voice their intent, at least:

During that period there'll be no coverage of the election campaign issues on the BBC. But we'll be bringing you the best pictures of the day - including the party leaders voting. And we'll give you some facts and figures about voting and a look at the logistical exercise involved in ensuring that the voting process goes smoothly

And given I follow cricket liveblogs, I'm quite used to quiet rambling blogs with very little of substance for huge chunks of time!

Well, can't believe it but I flipped a coin this time. Been a pretty shit election, nobody really stood out for me, so it was a flip between the Cons and UKIP, two votes so did it twice. General vote was Cons, and local vote was UKIP.

So yeah, in the end I let luck decide who I voted for out of a list of wholly unappealing candidates. Pretty woeful.
