That's huge. Couple more results with Tory/Lab swings like that and confirmation of SNP's absolute domination in Scotland and we're straight in to damage mitigation territory for Labour (the Lib Dems are already far beyond damage mitigation).
But in some respects does it really matter to labor if the SNP sweep scotland in terms of forming the next government? They were always going to need SNP support

Excellent! I shall join.

Only got beeb coverage. How's C4? Wasn't online before. Nick Robinson is starting to sound like James Mason.

Welcome for any words in addition to "caveats". And what're you on?

Even have tomorrow off as PTO because I'm going to the Austin Psych Fest. Going to be a good weekend, especially with the SNP result. :)

Brill. The thread's probably going to slow down into the wee hours.

The hell is a psych fest?

Edit:

coward. nights like these are where resolve is formed

Seriously. Cmon Crab, we need you.

It does if the likes of Douglas Alexander and Jim Murphy are falling and they're struggling to hold a single seat. Psychologically the damage will be severe. But you're technically right - that's why the Swindon North result is by far the most important piece of information we've had so far - the Tories look to be gaining from Labour, perhaps because of strong showings from the Greens and UKIP.

Philip Cowley, a psephologist, thinks Swindon North suggests the exit poll undershot the Tories if anything.

How can a representative of a party who's leader argued for less banking regulation get away with blaming Labour for the global recession?

People want to point fingers at something, labour were in power and conservatives helped people point those fingers. It makes no sense to blame labour for any of the issues caused due to american banks.

Exactly. It matters for the long term political scene in Scotland, it matters for policy, and matters for the continual engagement of ordinary folk in politics with this big turnout. It /also/ puts pressure on the SNP to show they can work with the other parties in Westminster, not just in the Scottish Parliament.

Surely not?

Putney is a very slight swing to Labour, but they need to be doing way, way better than that in London.

It's actually better if Labour do poorly in safe seats, it implies the movement towards them recorded was in the marginals.
