labour lost scotland to an anti-austerity party. how it can be even considered their campaign was lost on being too left wing is beyond me

The United Kingdom is more than Scotland (although for how much longer, I'm not sure). Even if they won every SNP seat, they still wouldn't have been in a good position with respect to the Conservatives.

My gawd. I wonder who will celebrate this in England.

Ironically, the Tories being in power could conceivably see the UK being strengthened given that they were open to offering Scotland devo max. Scotland's independence could be pretty much guaranteed if there was an overall vote for leaving the EU, however.

Yep, can seriously see this being an actual majority with the exit poll actually being low now. Which would've been hard to believe before tonight.

This is remarkable.

The questions can begin to be listed now:
- How does the UK survive?
- Where do Labour go? Not left enough? Too left?
- UK in the EU?
- LDems finished for good?

Political landscape is about to be redrawn..

Well that's it.

Union is dead.
5 more years of the poor and disabled being brutalised by ideological cuts.
Probably leave the EU too, why not.

Fuck this, I'm going to bed and pray there's no majority, but I'm not hopeful.

I mean, it's hard to portray how it was rude over text, but he was basically grilling her in an extremely condescending way: "You are the best the Greens have to offer?" *look of disgust*

I mean, I know it's his thing to grill politicians, but it seemed uncalled for in the context.

Aye, I know what you mean.

I feel like the media have and continue to be overly condescending and dismissive of the smaller party's, but then it's of no benefit or interest to them to break away from or support anything beyond the current establishment party's.

To be brutally honest though, even as a Green voter, I'm not enamoured by Natalie Bennet at all. She's absolutely not the reason they secured my vote, and I think there are stronger figures elsewhere within the party.

So much for voting Conservative means stability! Haha.

How is the bulk of Lib Dem support in Nuneaton going to UKIP? This is terrifying.

That's not how it works. Lib Dems will have fallen by say 8 percentage points, 2 will have gone to Cons and 6 to Lab, then 10 will have gone from Lab to UKIP. It looks like LD -> UKIP shift, but it's more complicated.

Similar story in Nuneaton as Swindon North - UKIP does very well, the Lib Dems collapse, Labour does poorly, and it all adds up to a Lab -> Con swing. I suspect that UKIP have been pulling from Labour thanks to "awkward, metropolitan Ed" (pure speculation on my part).

Well this is an utter bloodbath.

To be honest the thing that most interests me is just how wrong the pollsters have been for months. The analysis on that over the coming days and weeks is going to be fascinating.

SNP expect to have edged out Alexander by 700/800 in Paisley South. Declaration expected shortly.

It was far higher earlier but Alexander clawed it back a bit.

My only hope is that the good people south of the border don't buy into the idea that the vote north of the border is anti-English.

lib dems will probably be vindicated in unemployment when everyone sees what a slim tory majority ruled by backbenchers looks like. useless electorate.

Hiya everybody! Went out earlier and got a bit pished, sobered up and had a wee sleep and am now drinking heavily wondering what in the world is going on in England and Wales?

Why are the ex lib dem voters voting tory now? What are you thinking? It's the tories being in charge of the coalition that has pissed you off right? And now you want EVEN MORE of the same? AAAAAARGH!

My constituency is Glasgow North East by the way. I still refuse to believe that the labour vote will collapse to the point they don't win here. Only another hour or two till we find out!

David Laws might be out, according to the BBC. Replaced by a Tory, who could tell.

The Tories are getting a majority here, it might be a majority of about 10-15.

Tories will put English votes for English law in straight away, shut down snp.....

There is going to be one hell of a fight

If they go with the DUP, I can imagine the boundry change will be pretty high up there as well. That will bring another +20 seats for them come 2020
